How To Spool A Spin Reel - New Jack & Casting Setups For Summer
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 авг 2024
- This weeks vid goes through how spool up my spin reels. Was a little light on the fishing front as the weather on the days I have off have been blown out. I had a big mystery box of gear arrive this week with some new setups for summer so I figured it was the perfect time to get another gear video out. A Penn Slammer 3 6500 High Speed for heavy casting and a Penn Conflict 2 2500 for some Mangrove Jacks. The new setups will hopefully have me onto some good fish soon and will be perfect for use with the new Power Fish 14 Skiff on its way over from South Africa! Can't wait!

You've convinced me to get a slammer. Tossing up between the high speed slammer 3 and the normal one. Would you recommend the HS over the normy?
All positives for the HS?
nice new job hope u enjoy it.
Cheers mate, yea its great to be working with something I have interest in for sure.
Good tip mate for the way the line comes off the new spool... I know what you mean about this weather! I have been trying to get out and chase bass up here on there sunny (apparently!) coast but it just won’t stop raining on my days off! Hey when ur in NZ try and hook up a session with the Big Angry Fish guys..
Yea always a struggle waiting out the rain and wind. Hopefully some gaps this week. Would be cool to hook up some trips in NZ, will have to send out some emails.
So happy you got a job Mate
Thanks mate, yea takes the pressure off.
Right on man good for you! I really want a Stealth. Probably faster than my OK Big Game Prowler. haha
Cheers mate, yea the Stealth could be good for Spearing too with the centre hatch. will have to give it a test soon.
the best christmas at that hey man also wanna say got a job that u love too do fish on brother
Thanks mate, yes it all works out nicely
Hi Rokkit! Hope you are well! Could you share some tips on how to treat spool corrosion? Cheers
I use a wet sponge in front of the largest runner. Lays down nice and tight and a little damp which stops it looping loose the first few uses
Sound like a good way to get the tension right
Another awsome vid Rod. Nice gear you got there. You getting a Stealth Uno Skiff. I was at their workshop the other day and they had a couple made up already. Can't wait for your vids with it, awsome little craft. Keep it up.
P.s. well done on the job, hope it doesn't interfere with you fishing. ;)
Hopefully the skiff get me out to more fish faster! So even better fishing to come hopefully. Will be a great little craft I think, can't wait to do the vids on it and work it all out.
RoKKiT KiT out of curiosity, what does the law you side say about skippers licence or safety concerning a small craft?
If the motor is 4hp or smaller you don't have to get a licence or register the boat. If you go bigger then that you need to get boat rego and or licence depending on what state you live in.
Talk about an early christmas, id lose my shit if i got a package like that. Penn is w/o a doubt my favourite fishing tackle. Just bought a Penn armourlite 10-20kg 10ft rod yesterday so i can start chasing kings land based. One day when i can save some money ill be pairing it with a slammer 3 for sure.
Yea I have always used the Penn range so it is a good fit for me in the end. Hope you catch a monster on your new setup!
Loving the videos man, so glad that you have a job and everything is back on track. Great to see a quality aussie fishing channel, I was just wondering where I could find this power skiff. Would you be able to link it?

Thanks for watching mate, the skiffs are only just coming out of the factory now so there is not a heap on them. The links John has provided should get you started. As soon as I get my hands one ill do a stack of vids on them!
Great video
Thanks Mate
Nice new toys its christmas ^^
Yea early Christmas is good!
holly shit need a box like that awsome bro
Early christmas!
cant believe you didnt wet that cloth in the vice there Rod. Fair bit of heat gets generated as your braid comes through the cloth. For me, no having any kind of workshop to work in, I soak and wring out a tea towelroll the thing up lengthwise, wrap the line around the cloth in a full circle or two (depending on the pressure I want behind the braid), place an old carrier bag on the floor and then apply a little foot pressure on the cloth as I wind the line onto my reel. I have a "gizmo" which consists of a right angled piece of threaded bar, mounted in a piece of wood with a locking nut to hold the spool for me. As like you, I like to have the braid coming off of the side of the spool rather than in a straight line as I do for my multuplier reels (overhead / conventional). A little messier than your method, but living in a very small bungalow, I have seriously limited space to do such things in. Also, I choose a rod which is two piece and just use the butt section with the first eye, rather than the whole rod. That space issue again.
Great little video and excellent news about the new job mate. A little late, but well done!!
I believe u'll take braid coating plus the side way braid spool creating loops
having the spool flat on the ground and winding off the opposite of the way it winding on should stop loops... some of the coating it going to rub for sure but i'm yet top see a brand that doesn't rub off pretty quick anyways.
My spool had 2 major Knicks around the edge so it did not just lay there and unwind. It bounced all over hell while I tried to reel
Score !!!!
When are you gonna do a trip to DI for a Cobe?
The Cobia down here east better :) Mate I'm so keen for the mack to turn up though! any day hopefully!
If its been raining alot, target Jews they love a good rain. Can turn the break and bass on too. Especially if it hasn't rained in a long time.
Love your video I would like to know how deep ur fishfinder go please?
It says max depth is 1000 feet, So around 300 meters
Thank you very much going to get 1
Cool
Cheers mate
Do you have "wind knots" problems with the new braid you put on your reel?
I actually lost this setup second trip out😅 but have replaced it with then same thing... seems pretty good so far only the odd wind knot. Not very often👍
@@rokkitkit Thank you man!!!if you come to mauritius island take you for a trip😂nice video...continue
Was all that stuff sent free? What a score :o Im so jelly.
It was, super really nice of them to do it... about 4 years ago when I started the channel and had around 250 subs i sent them an email with a marketing plan and it must of been the right time, I got lucky and they had some interest in supporting a kayak fisho. Has taken years to build the relationship to this point. I think they are now starting to see the value in what RUclipsrs can offer too. Good to see some of the big companies are now really on board and supporting regular fishos and not just the bigger TV shows.
Just went out in the boat all Rckcod and Sargent baker
Haha, The old Sgt Baker and Rock Cod! I know them well!
did u find out what braid that was on the highspeed slammer?
Yes definitely Spiderwire Blue Camo... but not sure the lbs
have u used the spiderwire before im looking at changing braids i think i used spiderwire about 6 years ago and it was super waxxy! how do u rate it?
That is the Spiderwire Blue Camo in 80lb line test. Perfect for what Rod is using off the rocks or even popping for big Kings :)
Thanks Ming, 80lbs is perfect!
About to go kayaking
Hope you caught something!
Best way I have found is fold a stubby cooler in half. Put braid in fold. Put stubby cooler in car door with braid in it. Place pool inside bucket on car seat. Close door on stubby cooler. Proceed to wind on.
Interesting technique. as long a the line is unwrapping off the spool and not spinning the spool I think it sound like a good method.
Hi rokitt where did u buy ur gear from?
I buy my gear at a few local tackles shops and also get most of my Penn gear from them directly
How much braid line (40lb)can you spool on penn slammer 4500
Hmm I haven't put 40lbs on mine so this will be a guess but id say around 180-200m
There's a line capacity calculator on the internet
King fish
Lets hope I can get a few!
I would use the small one as a bait rod
This reel is staying as dry as I can keep it, bigger plans for it then the bait :) Hopefully!
Damn that is a lot of fishing tackles! But why are you so into penn? Because it is cheap?
I started using Penn reels because lasted the longest getting smashed by saltwater in the kayak. Then I got support from them so it was a good match. Since then they brought out the slammer 3 which is perfect kayak reel for me. Lucky for me it all fell in n place nicely
YEAH mine just pulled
I just go the double uni :)
Nothing my fg not let loose
i really should brush up on my FG.
Hallo rokkit kit i am made from bali.. can I request? Please can you make fishing strike just with reel penn spinfisher? Thank you
If I get one of the new 2018 Spinfishers then I will
Please do some inshore fishing
First like, first comment
Nice one mate!
U better be sponsored by penn or I will call them up right now.
Haha thanks mate, all good Penn is on board.
Great news on the job front Rod .... this could take you anywhere you want ...... one on one or group sessions with customers .... sky's the limit.
Really interested in the skiff, have been looking at the ones in the US for a long time now (One skiff, H Skiff, Ambush). While they have strong appeal, portability is always a worry for me (weight, transport, storage). I'll really value your opinion on how practical they are for loading with a car (no trailer).
The demo video looks really impressive though the seat looks pretty low.
stealthkayaks.co.za/kayak-range/uno-skiff/
Yea weight was the main reason I had not gone the Solo Skiff. When I heard Stealth was making one light enough to car top I was keen as. Will be interesting to get my hands on one. Ill be putting up lots of vids I'm sure. I don't mind the low seat as it keeps it stable but will have to see in real life.
Awesome video RodKITKIT !! Thanks for showing me how to put line on a spinning reel RodKITKIT !! Keep up the amazing work RodKITKIT !! I love the videos and the uploads RodKITKIT !! Cheers William !!
Some other stuff but not and no snapper
That moment you realise you, and everyone you know have been spooling up spin reels wrong all these years........
Haha, yea I use to put the spool on a stick too :)
Did I get it right?
Yep, a pen between the toes is the common method. ;-)
