One of the most underrated matches ever. Nadal's defense versus Davydenko's ball striking. A real pleasure to watch.
Nadal 33 Winners (29 UE), Davydenko 36 (46 UE), it's not only Rafa's defense...
@@Epicness96 Well it is insanely hard to outhit rafa. the UE count is high because it is rafa he is up against and he has to try to outhit him.
@@Epicness96 Before djokovic there was davydenko for nadal
This level is absolutely insane. We won't never see that level again.
Lol what an absurd comment
@Colonel Gibbs and playing with that intensity... Next gen doesn't play that level and intensity
@Colonel Gibbs NO ONE
Shawn I don’t like Nadal, but it’s a nonsense what you said. Nadal is the best on clay
@Shawn 🤦🏿♂️
This match is criminally underrated. Top 5 rome games surely
The fact that the first two sets alone took nearly three hours to complete is absolutely insane. One of the most underrated and amazing matches I can think of.
17:49 "He's never had to work harder to get a win here in Rome". Coria and Federer: Am I a joke to you?
Yeah Federer had match points the previous year, Coria did too if I'm not mistaken
Tom Deverson I don’t think Coria did but Coria was up a double break on Nadal with points to hold to 4-0
Exactly : If you look at the score of Fedal 2006 Rome Final : Two sets went to tiebreaks like in this match. And there was a set that went 6-4. The only difference is that there were two more sets, one which Federer won 6-2, and the other Nadal won 7-6.
Also vs ferrer in 2005
@@SJ-di5zu Yeah and Coria was two points away from the win at 6-6 in the fifth set tiebreak.
20 years old Rafa did not choke when losing that tight 2nd set. Rafa shows GOAT character since he was a young man
His clay court credentials made us forget how young he was when he played on dirt.
Shawn you’re joking. If you’re serious, stop it
Me: Miss playing tennis
Tennis TV: Uploads match highlights
Me: I feel so jealous of them
11:22 Rafa enjoying tough competition, this man gets high on brutal games
I remember being a little bit scared as a kid watching Nadals face at that moment, thinking "this is how good you have to play to even win a point against this man on clay"
THANK YOUUUUU!!!! and... please upload NADAL vs DAVYDENKO | Monte Carlo 2008 !!!
Jeez, nadal’s first three times he played in Rome he had to put SO MUCH WORK IN to win the title every single time. 2005 and 2006 he went to a fifth set tie breaker in the final and then he had this match the year after. Nadal is the definition of what Next Gen should aspire to be.
This match shows Davydenko to be a sportsman of great character... he corrected the line referee's out call for one of Rafa's returns...and being the older player treated Rafa so warmly at the net after the winning point...with a pleasant smile... not many do that especially after matching the winner at every step during the match... hope life has been treating him well...
Unlike shitsipas and ruune
One of the best matches I've ever seen.
Curious fact: Davydenko has the titles that Nadal has not yet won: Paris Bercy, Miami, Shanghai and the Atp Finals
That's funny, and the fact he prevented him from winning those.
And it's hard to believe he will ever win those. That's one thing that will always be brought up agains Rafa in the GOAT talk: ATP World Tour finals
@@MihaiMarcut True, he's got many other things that favour him but that will hurt him in the GOAT talk.
He won madrid which its the equivalent of shangai
@@masters.1000 he only prevented him from winning miami,in paris berdych he retired, shangai he already have since madrid was the equivalent of shangai, world tour finals davydenko only beat him in round robin
This was the match That Made me a Davydenko Fan. I do Remember watching it in a very small tv back in the days.
What a grueling grind..remember this match..
This was absolutely insane. Absolutely.
Davydenko is maybe one of the best players to have never won a slam. Such a clean striker of the ball.
Absolutely!
One of the matches that never happend, but would have loved to see happen, was Nadal vs Davydenko in the French Open final 2005. Davy lost to Puerta in a close match, while Rafa beat Roger to reach his first GS final. Can you imagine that version of Rafa, who was a physical prowess, who chased every single ball like there was no tomorrow, who was hungry and willing, but still inexperienced in GS finals, against the russian wall Davydenko? His shotmaking taking the ball early, angles and depth always bothered Rafa, mostly on hard courts, but still he was damn competitive on clay as well. It would have been epic. My prediction for that match (I know it's pointless, but it's fun to speculate) is that Rafa would have won in 5 sets.
Thank you so much Tennis TV. Great vid.
Rafaa has fought best clay players like coria, dayvdenko, roger, nole and now dominic this shows rafaa is the ultimate fighter in all sport
At that time Nadal was still unbeaten on Clay, his win streak of 81 matches on clay ended in same year in Hamburg against Federer. NO player has such long win streak on any surface in open era.Vamos Rafa💪
Not true. Anthony Wilding and Bill Tilden both have longer clay winning streaks than Nadal.
@Oliver McCall We're talking Open era bud, not when amateurs used to play. Stop hating.
@Oliver McCall amateur era can't be discussed with open era.. grow a brain.
Oliver McCall I'd like to add that Wilding, unlike players such as Drobný or Emerson, won his titles in an era in which there were no two separate tours (pro and amateur), hence he competed against all of the best players in the world.
@Oliver McCall who the fuck cares about Margaret Court when there are Steffy Graff and Serena Williams??? Amateur Era is utterly insignificant in this modern era of tennis.
Davydenko gave everything he had in this match, but you know it's not gonna be easy when you play against the wall (Rafa), the more harder you hit, the more violent it gets.
but u got to admit if davey had a serve half as good as kyrgios he could have won this match
Davydenko was a wall here too
Davydenko always was amazing
Davydenko gave Nadal some great matches. He takes the ball early , and was a great striker.
For context, this was the most dominant performance Nadal put in any tournament in ‘07. He steamrolled Djokovic earlier in the event and beat Gonzalez 2 and 2 the next day.
That’s how high his level was, and Davydenko pushed him to the brink.
I watched this match live in Rome with my family...what a superbe fight it was 🙂
It was almost impossible to get a ball by Nadal on clay
Thanks you so much, that match has everything ! Jaw dropping stuff, Davydenko was a machine !
i think certainly the best match played by Nadal against an opponent in a Masters tournament, bar none. Davydenko played magnificently, probably the best he has ever done on clay.
Rafa is a freak of nature!!!! Vamos Rafa!!!! Unbelievable match. Idemooo Nole!!!!
thank you for these uploads
Big respect from Nadal to davydenko for this game
The first big change Rafa made to his forehand. The takeback is shortened as compared to 2005. Watch his match vs Coria and compare it for yourself.
Before novak there was Nikolai.
A very similar head to head with Nadal. Dominance on hard and dominated on clay. 6-1 hard, 0-4 on clay
@Tano27 Lol what? 2008-2011 nadal was extremely well at hard courts. Thats what nadal's fans always give an excuse.
I think it was the greatest three set match of 2007. You run out of superlatives describing this insanity. It probably destroyed Nadal a little bit physically when he next played in Hamburg... not that it's an excuse because he can still dominate quite impressively like he wasn't hampered, especially on the red stuff.
Looking back, I just couldn't believe that at Nikolay's extremely high level of ground stroke game, he never made even one grand slam final!?
If there is one thing his game severely lacked, it was his reluctance to go to the net. You can only grind out points like this for so long. Great player, but Federer and others exploited his one-dimensionality. Same thing with Berdych.
Federer was the reason, said by Davydenko
After their first meeting, Davydenko never lost to Nadal again on a hard court.
One can safely say that Daveydenko literally paved the path of Djokovic's success against Nadal.. he solved the Nadal Riddle first time.. so much similarities with 2011 Djokovic shot making!!!
why did Davyenko give Nadal so much problems?
Tennis TV you do the best tennis videos.... 🎾👍
The fact that Nadal destroyed everyone in the tournament, it just shows how good was Davydenko that day but still not enough for Rafa.
Yup, this was prime nadal and davydenko came this close to winning.
The intensity of this match is beyond sanity
The first men to win atp world tour finals in London
It is a shame we never saw Nadal vs Davydenko in Grand Slams, especially at RG in Davydenko's prime years.
We came within one match. If Davydenko would have won his semi, he would have met Rafa in the 2005 FO final.
@@erintoney7137 More than that one time. 2007, 2009 as well. and that's just FO.
God. Nadal is so hard to beat when he is like that. Imagine this Nadal Vs Nole 2011 HC.
The match will last 5 hours in best of 3 and 7 hours in best of 5 😃
Nadal was nowhere near his prime here.
I think Nole would win
2007 Nadal would get schooled on a hard court lol he played really well on grass though
Tom Deverson on Hard perhaps but not on clay on grass it’s more even
This match was f.... amazing! Davydenko tried and gave a lot of strokes in different angles and pushed Nadal over his soul! Nadal showed an awesome mental strengh. Both have deserved to win. 18:00 - 18:04 - When Nadal and Carlos Bernardes were friends 😂😂😂
Nikolay Davydenko was a great player , i remember he, beat nadal in Miami in straight sets ,he beat him in h2h too
Incredible second set’s tie-break
Match of the year
Davydenko, imo, was one of the best baseline players. If he were more versatile at volley, he might have won one or two majors. The lose in 2010AO was Waterloo for him.
best match clay ever
Oh my God, it was clash of Titans! BRUTAL!💪🏻
Can we get Nadal vs Medvedev ATP Nitto Finals 2019?
Thanks for the highlights, Tennis TV!
Holy shit seems like I was watching it at 1.5x!
The first match I watched Rafa playing 🥰😍
Estos partidos son mil veces mejor que los de ahora
A very underrated match. I wish Tennis TV would put the whole match on the app. The point @ 8:26... Rafa literally had to fly to get the return back lol
It was a long time here in youtube on hd. Surely blocked due copyrights.
15:48 That clutch backhand technique from Nadal seems interesting to try
The Nadal scream at 11:13 still cracks me up.
This was my first time seeing Nadal With long hair. LOL!
@Oliver McCall well... Nadal is balding so I guess he can't do much about that lol
Puto partidazo. Ni sabía que existía
Jajajaja
He s a miracle
Que buen tenis hacía Davidenko. Era un talento puro.
Del otro, del que está en frente, para que voy a hablar...
11:13- that load scream :)
And they call it weak era 😂
What a match!!
Davydenko's ability to hit the ball on the rise, à la Agassi, always gave Nadal a lot of troubles. However this is the only game they played on clay where Davydenko really pushed the king of clay to the very limit: his angles were nothing short of amazing! Unfortunately he never had the physical strength to outlast the greatest players like Federer or Nadal.
Wow 🤩
Long rallies !😮
Davydenko had a game quite pleasing to the eye. A fusion of movement and acceleration with some geometry for good measure. What surprised me the most was how he used his body to put power into his shots, which required a lot of timing and concentration. His game did not look easy but it looked consistent. Nadal had the edge in many aspects and even though he did not play at top performance, he had the advantage in terms of easy power. I wouldn't say I like using the phrase easy power because it is not easy, but there is a certain ease by which Nadal accelerates through the ball that Davydenko did not have. At the end, this match popularity is based on how a point here and there made all the difference. Small margins created competition and both players had a certain dance: Davydenko with the QuickStep and Rafa with the PasoDoble!
Rafa’s toughest matchup has always been guys who consistently hit flat and deep
Djokovic is a pokemon evolution of Davydenko.
Sweet match!
Would you believe me if i told you Davydenko leads Nadal 6-1 on hard courts.
Yes... and he’s from the “weak era” lmao. Another proof that the weak era theory is bullshit.
Have they ever played in a GS? 😂 Nope, so this isn't so relevant, ok, you beat him in Miami, Shanghai, but it's another thing to beat him in a GS
@@michelegavelli2479 no again trying to close an argument by only cherry picking one piece of evidence.
Nadal really didn't mature on hard courts until 2008-2009 when he was about 22 years old.
Like how Federer's first hard court slam win was when he was 23 or 24.
Nadal was still young and already dominating clay, which shows the lack of competition at the time, considering Nadal's first slam win was when he was around 19.
We haven't seen a teenager win a slam since Nadal. That's how much more competitive it is at the top of the game now than it was 10+ years ago.
Federer had no competition on grass and hard, Nadal had no competition on clay.
Ever since 08,09,10 the competition has risen. Federer wasn't just swooping slams easily and Nadal was actually being beaten on clay
Tom Deverson he had competition on grass and hard, clay was way easier. On hard you had roddick, safin, davydenko, nalbandian, Agassi (2003/2004/2005). Same on grass: roddick, nalbandian, nadal (who was making finals at Wimbledon).
@@michelegavelli2479 roddick had major floors in his game, could easily be exposed, Safin had no mental game and zero consistency, davydenko and nalbandian had no serves so they were no threat on grass or fast hard. Nadal had no serve before 2010 so was virtually non-existant on hard courts
Can I have a slow motion of nadal pulls out his hair ribbon ?????
Nadals biggest opponent by the french open 2020 is the chineese tennis player CORONA GATES, the son from Bill gates(federers best friend)

i like the thumbnail btw 😂
😅
Thumbnail scared the live out of me
11:12 lol
Is it absolutely necessary in many videos to put the result in the thumbnail itself?
Basically Nadal vs mark 1 Djokovic here. Underrated player Davydenko; 4 Slam SFs, 1 WTF, 3 x master 1000s
Super
The thumbnail looks like Fognini
Good times

Give me the highlights of 2009 WTF Davydenko vs Djokovic
Bestial mode
Something little djokovic fanatics don't know, before 2012 australian open match, we already seen grinding from base line here it is.😂
Kinda spoiled it with the thumbnail tho
I do believe that Davydenko is one of the few players to have a lifetime winning record against Nadal, something like 11-7
wow!
Davydenko is probably the best Russian player I've ever seen so far. Maybe Medvedev could try and match his record
You should watch Safin then :) His backhand is as lethal !
Davydenko is perhaps the best player in this century never to have won a GS tournament. He spent several years as No. 3 ranked player and I remember him destroying once Nadal in the final of Miami.
He was not even in any gs final... But he's extremely memorable among all 3rd ranked player in the history.
@@uletitlinger But once he won the last tournament of the year of the best 8 players beating Dep Potro in the final. This is more than being a GS finalist.
@@frankiehunter. that's fair. One of the two best players in ATP history who peaked at number 3, alongside David nalbandian.
@@uletitlinger i agree with you 100 percent. Nalbandian was perhaps one of the most talented players and a brilliant shotmaker.
Cant even see the vall
Seriously Davydenko would have beaten God on that day.
Good old times. Weak era my ass.
the dude is basically same age as federer, I really wonder why he didn't keep going. I know it's a personal choice, but what if..
Does it sound Manolo Escobar at the end of the game? 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Really?
I remember watching this in 2007. Times where you couldn't see the ball.
The stamina of Nadal was suspicious....
