We were 400.000 NATO men deployed in Northern Bavaria. 100.000 vehicles (80.000 vehicles on wheels and 20.000 vehicles on caterpillars) It wasn’t war but it really looked like it, fortunately without the casualties.
Was there in 1882 . Painted signs. Was grateful when the British got us hot showers beat washing up with cold water in my steel pot from a water buffalo .....anyone out there remember the big blue and white beer tent?
Cold war, right there. Those are the M1 IMP abrams tanks, not the M1A1 tanks, but that is later on at the begging of the 1990's, operation desert storm. Man, I want to see these things in action.
The FTX (Full troop exercise) happened all around Würzburg. My sector was located on the East, in the Naturpark Steigerwald. We spent 1 week going South and eventually crossed the A3. The second week, we went back North if I am not mistaken.
Damn, I was in a Leopard 1 as well in the Dutch army in 1982. It looks if I am looking to myself in those days. Thankx for posting! A lot of memories!
