      It's a bloody Eurorack/Analogue synth maodules. Maybe someone with an entire house full of the things and 30 years of their life to waste can create some descent tracks 🤣but I was dissapointed when Danny used it on tour, no disrespect to enthusiasts, but...

    • @FuhQH8Me4Lyfe

      @@iisotter8944 Tool uses specific and oftentimes modified equipment to get a specific sound from their instruments. Especially in concert since there isnt any post production mastering involved as is done in studio versions. If Danny were to use anything else it would simply sound sub-par from what fans expect to hear. You've got to respect that Danny takes the time to make the adjustments to his equipment personally before each song, and not leaving it to a stage tech.

    • @iisotter8944
      @iisotter8944 Год назад +1

      @@FuhQH8Me4Lyfe I know that, but to his left ontop of his trigger modules there is a Eurorack/Analogue synth rack. That is the one with all the wires and lights. I have had alot of modular synths myself, that's how I know how difficult and time consuming they are too sound good. On the last tour of the UK Danny did about a 15 min solo. This is when he used the Eurorack as a backing percussion track. Just wished he had not used it, the bloody thing sounded awful, and I think it would have been a banging drum solo without it, a sentiment shared by myself a drummer, and the other 3 drummers I was with. Being a Tool fan since 92 mate, Danny is a genius on the drums, not trying to take anything away from the brilliance.

    Danny is known as “the octopus” for a reason. You just witnessed a genius at work. Fun fact, Danny played drums on some of Carol King’s work before Tool. He’s one of the best to ever sit behind a kit, right up there with Neil Peart (RIP) from Rush. I’ve seen Tool live a half dozen times, and it was mind blowing every time.

    2:10 - No clicks. It's for the Mandala drums, you can see the "Mandala v.3" text on the front panel.
    And mandala drums are those electric pad's he's using (the one's with the star on them). They have 255 individually programmable zones.. Crazy things. :)
    ** EDIT **
    Not idividually programmable ZONES, but 128 detection rings and 127 levels of velocity sensitivity.

  • @GregJacobs

    Tool should be required listening/viewing for every musician even if they don't like Tool. They are the perfect example of a band that listens to each other and not a click track, backing tracks etc. If you watch carefully, you will see how Danny reacts to what is happening with either the guitar or bass part in various sections of this piece. The other members are listening to Danny. There is a part where he hits the snare twice in a section and the bass/guitar immediately transition into the next part of the song. When watching them you will see the winks and nods between all of them for the musical queues to structure the journey they take you on.

    • @GregJacobs
      @GregJacobs Год назад

      Thank you for the response. Tool is a throwback to the days when bands knew the songs and each other. They would look to each other for the queues rather than sheet music and conductor, or sorts, or just taking the studio experience onto a live stage. Personally, I can't play to a click. My Metronome is in my head, Every now and again the musical choice might be to play a little ahead or behind the beat. The click makes it more sterile. Perfection in musical performance isn't always the goal. Expression, feeling and emotion work better for me and my taste.
      Another great example of the musical interchange between musician, melody, rhythm and not being afraid to leave space in a composition is Weather Report.
