Seller seemed like a really nice guy. I love when owners keep a box of parts, manuals, photos and stuff and lets everything go with the bike as a package deal. It's like that stuff belongs with the bike and that's its story so it must be passed to the new owner.

When someone has all that stuff then tried to chisel you for more money, that’s the worst. It’s one thing to sweeten the deal, but when some turkey says “yeah, the manual is another $25”. Bro, are you really going to sell it on eBay?

a lot of guys make the mistake of putting the wrong anti-freeze in these bike, anything with magnesium cases needs to use a fluid that is suited for the mag cases. water and magnesium do not work well together. I had a bike with magnesium cases and I pulled the side cases off after every ride in the wet and dried them out, it saved me a lot of head aches. I highly recommend a waterless antifreeze, especially in 4 stokes which tend to run hotter than a 2 stroke.

You gotta find a 85 through 87 CR500 cause they were the most powerful engines that Honda made. They all had different engine heads and couple extra different details that made them produce extreme power. One of the years was the best and I’m guessing it was the 86 model. Of course it would be the hardest and most expensive parts to find to restore, but they were beasts and were raced like crazy back in the day.

Found a guy in Phoenix area that can mold and pour new cases and various parts. I know what you mean about those crappy magnesium cases, I've tried tig on them but they are so brittle they rarely hold up. Not sure where guy got them but he came in with an 86 250 and it had a carbon fiber clutch cover with re inforce sluminum bolt holes, very nice!!!

That bolt straight down under the oil fill cap on the case behind the water pump that has a bolt head and philips slot to is how you check your gear oil joe you take that bolt out and fill your oil up until it starts running out that hole then put that bolt back in and wipe the oil off and your oil is full

Could be residual coolant in the trans! I would just do the water pump seal and bearing if the case is good. Flush the trans out with more oil till it's good

There's a reason why you get these boggy bikes so cheap Joe, they all need full rebuilds they need love. Come on mate step it up brother. I'm just jealous that you get all these awesome bikes, here in Australia we would pay double even triple the price. You started it up before the video aey could hear the pipe cooling down...

Don't put oil in, rebuild it ..... I'm done. Good luck mate.

Just learned you could run the transmission on coolant I think that's for performance

Yeah coolant keeps the clutch cool. 😉

As with all 80-88 CR's you come across the outer cover will almost always be corroded if it is magnesium. Never buy a CR of those years without being prepared to repair it or replace it. Not trying to be rude but you cant tell if the reeds have been changed by looking at the intake boot and reed block. Not all aftermarket performance reeds have a new block like Vforce.

Once you change the seal. When you put oil back in the engine add some marvels mystery oil it will help take care of the water. It might take few oil changes. Because there is still going to be water inside the case.

The screw just below the oil fill, if you pull it out you fill till oil barely starts coming out of that screw hole for future FYI.

There's a special coolant they run in semi's to keep them from dissolving the magnesium I can't think of the brand name but a Volvo semi dealership keeps it on hand when I bought it for for my ATC 250r it was kind of a bluish purple in color

Hey dude! You should take a look for a 2003 rm100! They stopped making them in the 80’s and made them for 1 year in 2003, it’s a fun bike and has loads of torque I have one and it’s probably one of the best bikes I’ve ever ridden. Keep making great content!
