In all my travels I have never seen a marina with a lock. I have done locks in Scotland and in the PNW but never seen one like that. I saw you replied to someone else's comment about the tides, so wild!
when the forecast calls for light and variable winds or there is a high pressure system on top of your route or very close by, then them getting the winds right is very difficult and many times you will not have any wind. It looks like you were right under a high pressure system so all the wind was being sucked up above the clouds. Two tips about sails: Try to always keep them balanced as that will stabilize the mast. If you have to run 1 sail, try to make it the main. It will stabilize the boat better and keep the mast from pumping. Most will violate this run when running down wind. If you have a small jib instead of a genoa, then it's usually ok, just be mindful of mast pumping if you do it. Mask pumping wears out the mast, especially your type of mast.
@@HarrisonMorgan-p1m haha it was a complete mess! He must have done the most of his “painting” at night and it was like the dingy had a whole new layer of floor.
Hi guys, wow that ocean is so flat. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it that you could see the clouds on the water the boat/yacht looks fantastic. Keep up the good work guys. Looking forward to more videos Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia. I’m on the big island.
Yeah it was definitely flat and definitely hot! The calm stayed through most nights and it was so flat at night you could even see the stars in the reflection, absolutely amazing. Thanks heaps for watching and glad you enjoyed it! 🙏
Good episode 👍If you use some a little heavier like a brick chisel it’s much easier to get the prop clean. Those barnacles on the prop really slow you down motoring
Nice! Great Job getting out of Darwin! I posted your first video in comment in another youtube channel - Voyage of Mon Ami As they have a 41ft Jeanneau Legende. Hope that helped you with some subscribers!! Look forward to more episodes!!
Just curious do you have the “sea people” app. It allows people to see your location and progress, also allows family and friends to keep track so they always know your safe. ❤️🇨🇦
They certainly do! At night they were even better but too hard to capture on camera, the star reflection in the water was insane! Haha well, we’re wondering the same thing, the views and subscribers off the first was definitely unexpected but completely appreciated!
Hahahaha totally loved this video ! Bro that bird definitely looked you in the eye and done a s..t LOL, so jealous that you guys are away from people and doing your own thing, just wondering why that bird had to go ? In nz birds sh...ing on you is good luck and a bird on your house-boat is good luck as well, go the chicken sniddies !
Haha thanks heaps for watching! It just had to go, we had a peak in the dingy and there was a full on layer of poo in there that we really didn’t want to have to clean up if it kept getting worse 🤣
No it’s not below sea level, it’s purely tide related… Darwin’s average spring tide is 5.5m but it can get larger. Due to some of the marinas being off an inlet they have to put locks in so the boats don’t dry out essentially.
yer moite those bloody Darwin tides. 1.5knots, get used to it. old mate looked so gutted. its common, youre not alone. standard blue water behavior. sometimes youll get it in your favour and reach new top speeds
another tip about wind: if they call for 10-15 knots, then it might get up to 20. If they call for 15-20, it might get up to 25 or maybe 30. If they say 20-25 knots, then there is no limit to what it can be and usually is higher.
Wicked so happy for you both can’t wait see refit and adventures ahead
Yeeww thank you! Haha it’ll be a fun time (and stressful) for sure!
Enjoyed this video well done
@@peterbailey6722 thanks so much! ☺️

Yeah there’s a few of them in Darwin! Definitely a bizarre experience. And the tides are hectic too! Sure you would have seen tides larger?
Wow those glass water images are incredible
Thank you! We definitely had a love / hate relationship with the glass off conditions 🤣

Thanks for the tip! We just didn’t want to chip into the propspeed too much, a scraper was definitely useful 🤙

Yes we’ve had the app since they released it for trial/ beta testing 🤙
Rodger will leave his calling card no dought cheers u pair .
Haha he’s definitely left his mark in the dingy 🤣
Those glassy conditions make amazing shots. Enjoying your videos. Just curios, how do you get over 3k subscribers with only two videos.
They certainly do! At night they were even better but too hard to capture on camera, the star reflection in the water was insane! Haha well, we’re wondering the same thing, the views and subscribers off the first was definitely unexpected but completely appreciated!

So Dawin is below sea level? How far below? Must be a good 10' at least to need a lock to raise you up to the sea.
No it’s not below sea level, it’s purely tide related… Darwin’s average spring tide is 5.5m but it can get larger. Due to some of the marinas being off an inlet they have to put locks in so the boats don’t dry out essentially.
@SeafolkSailing 😲
What speed do you go on motor?
Generally 5kts but we don’t like to push the engine if we’re not going into the tide
yer moite those bloody Darwin tides. 1.5knots, get used to it. old mate looked so gutted. its common, youre not alone. standard blue water behavior. sometimes youll get it in your favour and reach new top speeds
Haha we reached a top speed on the way between Vernon islands and cape don but reach an all time low speed AT cape don 🤣
@@SeafolkSailing just wait until youre going backwards haha
Escaping Darwin just to be shit on, classic sailing story.
Hahaha the irony on it! 🤣
