4:15 The reason to make an extreme (imo) is to use gimmicks, click patterns, aesthetic timings, ect that you just can't get away with on any other difficulty. For instance, New Record has 7-8 cps controlled spam for large sections of it, you just can't really do that for an insane or lower. There are also Rust's double clicks, sync parts in stuff like void wave, and even the straight flys (straight flights?) in bloodbath. Those are all gimmicks unique to extremes because that's the only difficulty they can be appropriately balanced and fun. Full disclosure: amateur layout maker and not an extreme player
Upside to extremes: There is much more objects on the screen so you can focus on block design instead of the backround without making it core. There are also a lot of different gameplay gimmicks that are too hard to not be in an extreme
Something that helps me making layouts is the fact that for extremes nerfing very slightly makes a lot of difference in the difficulty, so instead of like nerfing the wave part by 2 small spaces one might have been fine.
Random ideas if you want to either hate urself or make the level harder, - You could make some swing ufo/swing robot parts, both can make levels interesting, - Mini wave + dash orbs at off/weird wave angles, - Have a section where you have to avoid portals - like a ship/wave/ufo section where you avoid robot/cube/mirror/gravity portals, - Asymmetrical dual that focuses on cross pathways for a mini and normal icons - so one path is always mini and the other is always for large icons,
Just as a little bit of advice, when building the gameplay don't worry too much about the balancing because as long as the flow of the level itself is good, playtesters will fix up the balancing in the end. That is assuming you get playtesters (hopefully)
this looks incredibly fun to play tbh and i think you are doubting yourself way too much. not every extreme needs to have every click perfectly balanced and nerfing can also come later. i also think making an extreme really opens one's mind in terms of gp options especially for easier levels. extremes are just cool to make because it's satisfying when you can pull them off
I feel your pain man, when making an extreme demon but just me trying to make a level on my phone. Yeah. Pain... Hope this series still goes on. Good luck!
Wulzy this extrem is so cool! I love how flowy and how it transitions from game mode to game mode. The high click per second parts remind me of wasureta, so i want to say that i really like the repeating click patterns. Good luck!
Green orb timings could help consistency and click patterns! Fun to see you building and also the crazy ride it's been. Hopefully one of these days I'll get to finally put in a level request for one of mu own levels, as I learn from the best!
Pro tip; Have a few friends test out your level. It's always better to have a different perspective on your level, because like you said, there's things you're good at and things you're bad at. This strategy has helped me quite a few times with layouts.
this is classic wulzy gameplay, kinda remembers me of your old gameplay from a year ago, i find that cool that you experiment with gameplay a bit:) making difficult gameplay has always been my motivation of bulding and i hope you can understand why lol. anywyas great vid as always :)
Btw fun fact : if you use a pad or orb in such a way that the ball hits a ceiling, it will normally lose all momentum and fall downwards. But if you buffer, the ball will stick to the ceiling instead. You can only change gravity if you're in contact with the ground. When you hit the ceiling, you are touching the ground, so the game allows you to switch the gravity. You could use that for the gameplay. Another wacky thing: orbs don't add or subtract your momentum, they set it to a specific value. That means you can, for example, touch a red pad, and right afterwards a pink orb, it will cancel the boost of the red pad and you won't get launched far.
As a person with a crippling addiction to extremes, I think you're worrying a bit too much about the balancing right now. maybe it's different for a solo level, but usually people balance levels after they have been built, not while. Some are insanely hard to start off, some are unbalanced, some are easy, but they all get tinkered with to become an extreme in the end. Heck, the first copy of Astral divinity was a 4 star. In fact, almost all of his extremes start off as 4 star levels! Don't get me wrong, it can be really annoying when something just doesn't feel right, that urge to just change it. but it's kinda like writing an essay, you don't edit at first, you just write and edit later. Maybe that might help make the gameplay better because you won't be constantly worried about it and it could take some pressure off? idfk it's just a theory of mine ok I'm gonna go play more unnerfed paracosm circles bye
okay the first song brought back so many memories. it's either the check mii out channel or the everybody votes channel from the wii. so many memories just flooded back, and it's an absolute BOP
@@Wulzy absolute BANGER! good luck with the level btw! i'm not much of a gd player but i like watching creative work so it's cool to see it in this game
other tip off of neigefu's, you can probably scale down a speed portal as long as you have a 1.0x scaled speed portal invisibly on top of it. You can also turn on show hitboxes in the editor to see where the speed portal hitbox matches with the scaled down hitbox
woah wulzy! this is looking pretty epic so far! I also wanna ask if you could try to implement some swingcopter gameplay in this level maybe? as a big fan pf swingcopter I find that usually swingcopter parts are only like 2 seconds long and require like 3 clicks lol so it'd be nice if you could make a swingcopter that's a bit longer doesn't really have to be in this level but since you're in the process of making the layout I figured I'd ask keep up the banger videos and have a good day!
simple tip, but an important one: sometimes if you want to have a really hard but interesting and unique timing you can 100% just put a buffer click before it. that makes it more consistent and fun sometimes i just really hate it because in extreme demons every click is a different timing, but sometimes its better to have a buffer or something. firework is a great example, its a top 3 demon and has these random buffers that make the level consistent and fun
This just shows me how hard it is to build a good but challenging Extreme Demon, I'm really interested to see the progress on this level throughout the next few videos :D
I've always tried to build layouts like Wulzy, cause I'd always watch his vids and see him knock one out in 30 minutes whereas I would spend hours on one part and usually end up deleting it. Difference always was I build extremes and he doesn't, so this series is kind of relieving.
what if you decorate the level like its if its a old radio transmiting a song making it with a black and white theme, the song has that old feeling to me
I remember you when I created my first Extreme, was all wave and I couldn't pass it, and even if i nerfed the slightest, it would become Insane or Hard, the click pattern helps a lot, but only if you're consistent, and that's what I think you should think about. It's not about the clicks , it's about consistency
Add black orbs and square orbs for the ufo, the black orbs is so you don't hit them and if you do you die, for timings, and square orbs for more clicks, it won't boost up the ufo since the square orb doesn't to anything than just toggle things.
That noise when he did the wave was unexpected 🤣 I love your content wulzy I'ma definitely send you some money when I get paid because your one of my favorite RUclipsr besides juniper and VanossGaming
