The SU-25s are from Academy. They are a standard 144th scale kit from their range. So you can pick up extra planes for TY from a LHS or eBay. As for the flight stands, I plan to drill a hole in the underside of the fuselage to sink the socket inside the fuselage. This should make it secure as the socket will be held by the fuselage sides and the upper fuselage, and will sink it in so it doesn’t protrude so much. Otherwise, this is a great starter. Good to get all the new kit on the table quickly.
Yes, planes at 1/100 are too big. Helicopters are on the table for longer so having them at 1/100 is okay. Planes tend to do a fly past attack before going off table.
Yeah the planes are a bit smaller, which is reasonably common in historical games. They are much bigger than we tend to think and frankly in most systems they are no more than 'markers' for an off table effect.
A very good starter set for the soviets as you can make a competitive list here and then easily add new units later on, only downside is no artillery in the set.
I think they desperately try to avoid having resin or metal in these sets. Maybe we will get a new set someday when they do some Soviet artillery in plastic.
A nice little look into the box. I may have misheard you but you take the 1pt veichles in 2's but get 5 sprues(?). I use 'Widgets' on the bottom of flying stuff in DZC and it doesn't detract at all. I even paint mine black so clear plastic should be fine.
So the Spandrels are not part of the Formation itself, but would just be a Support choice? I found an article online where someone had combined this set with the Soviet half of the 2-player starter to make a nice and legal 100-point list - basically everything from the Frogfoots (Frogfeet? Frogs foot?). Seems solid, I'm going to give it a try. Between you and Josh at WargamingNewb Historical, you've really whet my appetite for TY. Thanks for the great unboxing videos!
Thanks mate. I think this one is a great set to start with because there are a lot of low points units in the support section which you can develop drop depending which direction you want to go.
@@ModellingforAdvantage A box with this many models for 70 points can't go wrong. As you say, lots of different ways to grow it depending on play style.
I can't remember if I had trouble putting the smoke launchers on the T-80 turret. I can remember struggling with the M1/IP/A1 Turret stowage. I dunno why, but I could figure out the guides at first.
The army list in the box looks wrong to me. It includes the Spandrel Anti-Tank Platoon. In the Soviet army book the Spandrel is NOT included in the T80 shock company formation. The Spandrel is only available to the BMP & BTR rifle battalion formations. It is shown as a support option on page 18, but nowhere else.
I agree - but like most of these armies, they are a bit of a mess from a serious list building sense. They are more 'this is what we make in plastic' than a decent list. You can, at least, take Spandrel as general support.
@@quartersquishy5312 depends what you mean. There is a rulebook in here. Apart from that you need dice, rulers, scenery etc... if you are starting completely from scratch it can be, but if you already play other tabletop games, you probably have what you need.
The starter set is a cracking first buy. We are getting Warsaw Pact army box in a metter of weeks at this stage - you might want to wait and see what comes in those before buying an army box.
The t 80 are superb amd the bmp 3 both recent sculpts 2020. I like the helicopters and jeep, i just got the starter set, very cool kits.
Totally agree
Awesome set and great value, bought it with the starter set , 4 T80's, 2 BMP 3 and 3 T-64, got a nice starting shock army.
Yeah, that is a solid Soviet force there.

I was thinking the same thing regarding drilling a hole.

Thanks for sharing this great box, looks very nice.
Do you play TY yourself?
@@ModellingforAdvantage have some armies for it, but no time to paint them and play with them on the channel.
@@tabletopgeneralsde310 A problem we all have my friend... too many models, never enoug time.
Looks great, we’re thinking of venturing into TY soon.
The newer kits really are nice.
Interesting that the Aircraft are a different scale to the vehicles. Makes sense from a practical stand point.

Mate you're killing me with all this tiny tank talk! Great video 😊
Tiny tanks are awesome.
Nice starter set good amount in the box .
It is one of the better ones for sure.

@@ModellingforAdvantage true but I had hoped they might do a plastic Carnation but fingers crossed for a future plastic kit
@@lordcypher7922 I am sure they will do one at some point, and maybe then we will get a new boxed set!

You can take them in twos, rather than that being the only option.

I don't especially remember it being that bad on the T-80, but the T-64 was a pain.
Hmmm, I'll need to build some more T-64s to see if I had issue. I'd better grab another starter set! 😅

Looks like a really good starter box. Does team yankee play like FoW or are there any differences?
There are differences, but I couldn't tell you what they are - the games are extremely similar. No gun teams in ty.
Love your videos
Hello I was thinking about getting in to ty do you know roughly how much it would cost to get in to it?
UK £80 at full retail, US, $110. You can but one from us at our website for 15% off if you are in the UK of course!
