A male Lion calling during our early morning outing in the Kgalagadi yesterday.🌅 🐾
The majestic sound of a lion's roar is an iconic symbol of the African savannah! The lion's call, commonly referred to as a roar, often described as a deep, rumbling sound that can be heard up to five miles (8 kilometers) away reaching levels of up to 114 decibels!
Male lions typically roar in the morning, as well as at other times of the day, for several reasons:
Territorial announcement, Social bonding, Communication, Warning & Mating.
Each lion's roar is unique, allowing individuals to be identified. Lionesses (female lions) also roar, but their roars are generally softer and less frequent than those of males.
