      +Ignoring Reality This is why there needs to be a project to equip a captured UFO modified to operate as an unmanned drone with heavy alien plasma weaponry. Nuking it from orbit (or, rather in this case, an altitude of 1km) really is the only way to be sure! I mean, maybe you could only do it once per mission, and this could be justified on the ground of the aliens becoming aware of your UFO and intercepting it if you try to do a second bombing run. Then, once the UFO is done, it cloaks (so the aliens couldn't just follow it and discover your base's location) and returns to the avenger.

      +Your Name Goes Here in previous games that may have been possible but even the smallest ufos are 2-3 times the size of a demon interceptor not to mention the fact that maintaining any kind of an Air Force would be ungodly expensive and if downed would require another dangerous mission and vast amount of time and resources

    • @TheFreakyman42

      ryan wiley Well, maybe they could, err, refit on of the ayy's satellites to scramble their communications network for a turn or two, sorta like with exalt in XCOM:EW, It probably wouldn't take too much effort or resources to design a network worm that breaks the aliens' communications. I think it was mentioned in the first game's ending that humans were the most technologically advanced species they'd tried to conquer so far, so naturally they probably wouldn't design their systems with security in mind.
      Even after 20 years of occupying Earth and dealing with human hackers, they probably would rely as much on video footage to discover suspected hackers as anything else, let alone XCOM hackers inserting malware that automatically infects networked devices into the firmware of satellites. After all, you can't exactly expect to track down suspected cybercriminals in a world where the TOR project, or it's fictional equivalent, has been augmented by alien technology and developed by the resistance movement for 20 years. Hell; they probably can't reasonably track down resistance members through the internet at all, and instead rely on satellite imagery and moles within the resistance to coordinate retaliation missions.

    First time I ran into this thing. Two things happened.
    1: I immediately start freaking out there was a damn chicken walker in the game with such a HUGE life bar and powerful guns that immediately killed my "turned" enemy I gained from a hacking bonus. One fucking shot was all it needed.
    2: Thankfully a lot of my soldiers had the Spider Armor to shoot grappling hooks which was key for the mission to retrieve the P.O.W of ours who was kidnapped. So we start rushing out, taking shots when we HAD no choice but to. Some of my soldiers nearly died and trust me there WAS close shaves. I felt a HUGE amount of dread as I saw it walking THROUGH the building after my soldiers in that mission. Thinking a simple rescue mission had quickly turned to a fight for survival.
    I was lucky to be able to save my soldiers from being wiped out from that first encounter. That damn Chicken Walker truly makes me think of getting Blue Screen rounds more than ANY other enemy.

    From the beginning of tge game i power level my specialist by finding hack objective that give a perminant +20 to hack. By the time i meet a sectopod ive got a 100% chance to deactivate and roundabout 50% chance to take control. You can also freze it, stun it use blue screen or probably the most fun but least practical equip a repeater and cross your fingers.

    Shredder grenadier chainshots its armor off (even better if you have salvo and open with a 'nade/heavy weapon first), then everyone hits it the best they can. Snipers loaded with AP ammo can take off significant chunks as well (Fanfire is amazing with AP ammo), and talon rounded shotguns can bring the pain (rapid fire o' course), armor or no. Last but not least, a capacitor discharge from a specialist can really ease it up.
    These are all late abilities/items-based, but you should have some of them by the time you're encountering sectopods.

  • @quesocoatl21
    @quesocoatl21 9 лет назад

    Yeah psi units are hardly useless against machines since there are three offensive attacks unrelated to whether the victim is bio or mech, a move to give a teammate a yellow move, and a move called stasis to contain an enemy for one turn.And if that fails you can mind control another enemy as a meat shield/target/extra gun.

    Easy PZ-EMP: Few options (In order of effectiveness):
    1) Throw EMP bomb (50% chance shuts down all ennemies in the large blast radius for 2 turns and enormous damage ignoring armor+deactivates any shields) straight at it went it is spotted and two-shot it with sniper, ranger, or heavy gunner with bluescreen rounds.
    2) Hack shutdown or control with a combat hacker
    3) Mimic beacon decoy
    4) Phantom Ranger that spots it for your snipers
    5) Use combat protocol/capacitor discharge or heavy gunner/spark to ignore its armor and destroy it with multiple concentrated attacks.

    I'm curious as to how many can be around at once in any map, everybody has memories of those days back in Enemy Unknown where you could really fck up and be staring straight at three of these Sectopods in one shootout (oh that was great fun, only had two men still standing by the end of that, thankfully it was my Revive Medic (and the Squadsight Sniper), but he only had enough meds left for two....the other two I had to abandon for the greater good....)
    Things could get hilariously messy if we can get more than three in one map.

      Snipers have been nerfed.
      Headshot has been replaced with dead eye, which increases your crit chance at the cost of accuracy.
      Long ranged shots take substantial penalties to accuracy.
      Disabling shot no longer exist.
      Damage reduction on mechs appears to be universal.
      It's not all bad though.The gunslinger tree is now a much more rewarding, allowing you to get many shots off on multiple targets in a single turn.
      The new version of Opportunist lets you lay down a cone. Anything that moves in, or enters this cone triggers a reaction shot until you run out of ammo or you next turn.

    My method is usually to hack and disable it - this buys 2 turns where everyone in the squad has a 100% chance to hit the stationary Sectopod... that is usually enough. However, as a backup I have my get out of jail Mimic grenade as well - which will buy a turn as the Sectopod lumbers after the hologram (remember that the mimic will only distract units that can see it so throw it carefully!). Basic tactics of shredding armor first are incredibly important as these are some of the more heavily armored targets.

    I kinda like the Enemy Unknown Sectopods the most, tbh. Not because it's easier to beat, but because of it's design - the compact structure and big, powerful legs just screams agility. I don't feel like the new Sectopod should've replaced the old one, since their different designs make them good at different things. Instead, they could've kept both and upgraded the old one and had it tailored towards mobility instead of power. Both of them are already well beyond any unit, anyways.

    Uh...try to hack it I suppose, then if that doesnt work, hit it with a few explosives? And if its still either panic and lose control of the situation, or unload and hope something happens..

  • @LightCrasher

    As I did before, mindcontrol mutons, use them as a meat shield, and attack the shit out of this from range. And explosives, ofc. Even in that case, I BARELY had enough damage to kill it in 1 turn in EU on terror mission. Jeez...

    Does the CQC lazer activate even if the Ranger has the ability to not provoke Overwatch?
    After that it's a question of how much damage it deals.
    The Wrath Cannon looks nasty if he can aim it again after charging.

    If it shows up in the same mission as a bunch of other enemy units, Imma gonna have my Psi Operative brainwash one of them and have it attack THEM, while the rest of my team shreds it and then pummels it with rockets and grenades.
    I don't think they said it was immune to ACID...
    I think there's an acid grenade in this game...or is that the same as posion?

    • @thedarkmaster4747
      @thedarkmaster4747 8 лет назад

      posion wont work on mechanicals. but i would much rather the devs increase squad size or give us an equivolent unit or both. how long to you think the mind controled enemy unit would last against THAT?

    • @KillerOrca
      @KillerOrca 8 лет назад

      The Dark master Heh, that would RULE.
      (Also since you can PERMENANTLY control an enemy with mind control on a fully-leveled Psi-Op oh man)

    • @thedarkmaster4747
      @thedarkmaster4747 8 лет назад

      it would be "realistic" to have massive squads (origional xcom games/sanity) and equivalent units (symetrical warfare stratergy/asymetrical warfar stratergy) but knowing devs and watching this game being played, it is post longwar (a slightly ghoulish EW mod the devs took a licking too.) things are going down hill for this game franchize. mission timers and sniper only pistols are my personal linch pin gripes. this universe has/had so much potentual. but it seems only the aliens get to have mechs this time around? the sectopod should get a sheild and the jump ability both alien and human mechs had respectively, and shiv repair. and sonar... it should be a "monster" but you should get an equivalent of a XCOM gundam to fight it with. not infinate body bags, high ranking troops and high teir equipment with an easily explotable weakness. that's cheap.

    With units like this walking around, I think we can consider ourselves lucky that killing all enemies won't be a requirement every single mission anymore.

    Tbh the sectopods in EW are harder to deal with than XCOM2. In 2 you have specialists, gremlins, hacks, blue-green rounds, combat protocols, shadow chamber warnings, and plenty of other fun gadgets to take them down. The ones in EW just sit and shoot you twice in a turn and can't be killed in less than 3 turns when you first fight them

    • @andycape2619
      @andycape2619 9 лет назад +3

      +imdefender It can be hacked, it was already done by some french journalists. I would have show you the video but it has been changed to "private". Here's the link of the article thought.
      www.millenium.org/xcom-2/xcom-2/actualites/xcom-2-ennemis-guide-advent-alien-pouvoirs-strategie-chrysalis-ethere-archon-andromede-berserker-mtj-138646?page=17 - That was the second video.
      From what I remember the Sectopod had like.. 120 at tech score and I guess the specialist reach its best when he's promoted to corporal. I doubt he'll be able to exceed 120 so there's still a luck notion.
      By the way I would like to say that you can't disable it but can take control of it for the two of three next turns.
      Hope I helped you in your thinking.

    Step 1: Acid Grenade. Step 2: Gunslinger Sniper (Fire Pistol, Lightning Hands, Tripple Shot)
    To be honest, if you have armor-stripping capabilities, the 5-shot-combo a gunslinger can pull off combined with pretty much any equipped ammunition of your choice dispatches Sectopods maybe a bit TOO quickly. They're pretty quickly taken out if you get a turn on them, on the other hand if they get to make a turn against you, you're pretty screwed.
    Personally, i found the Gatekeeper to be a more challenging enemy because of the very hard to overcome 6 armor on it.

    • @allhailepicface123
      @allhailepicface123 8 лет назад

      Really? Honestly sectopods and gate keeps were total jokes for me, the aliens most advanced psionic unit can be easily permanently mind controlled by a psi op with domination, and late game sectopods just get obliterated by the sheer amount of firepower you have. I was kinda disappointed that the enemies can't keep up with the operatives in the late game, and the final mission was a joke. (Provided I was playing on rookie, I'm doing a new playthrough on commander to see how it goes)

  • @jnsrianhansen2648

    Just use some grenadiers to take out the armor, then blow it up with your rangers and specialist. Mimic beacon might be handy to keep it occupied if you can't take it out in one round, No problem. But i never use psi units in xcom 2, since all "heavies" are robotics..

    Honestly Gatekeepers are worse with their built in 40 defense. Bluescreen rounds. They're awesome at solving problems. I always run a two man grenadier core speced with shredder packing bluescreens. You can also run a well speced sniper equipped with bluescreens. Using Deadeye with the bluescreens they can easily pull 20 plus damage on a Sectopod.
