Put a glue compressor on to a sends track, high attack and a fast release bring down the threshold and turn up the makeup gain, then blend it in with your processed kick.
The trick is to care less care about the kick.... I was on the same mission myself for a long time, but when I realised that some big artists don't do anything at all except use any samples, I'm now glad that I do the same meanwhile. For example Stef Mendesidis just takes the basic 909 kick and give it some distortion and thats it. No listener will ever notice the tiny little chanhges we make.
You have a point. Also fine-tuning it with compressors/EQ, adjusting length/sidechain and having it sound good in the mix with all the other stuff is more important than having it sound fat on its own. That being said, if you can do both, IMO it's worth it.
I was hoping to come across a channel such as this one. Two days into the beginning of my Techno journey, this clip popped up in my recommendations. This is sick! My only suggestion (and I highly recommend this) - a macro to invert phase for the bass layers. After the sampler in both the Low Punch layer and Low Rumble layer I added a Utility device. On the Utility device, click the ØL and ØR buttons to invert the phase and then right click the Utility's device activator button and map the one on Low Punch layer to Macro 15 and map the one on Low Rumble layer to Macro 16. When the macro is set to 0 then the Utility device is off and phase is normal, and when you turn either corresponding macro dial past 64 then it will invert the phase for that layer.
yupp i thought about that!! i tried to address that by adding the low shift, low pitch, and rumble pitch knobs. you can address the phase there even with small adjusments. thats why i reccomend using an oscilloscope while working with low frequency sounds

One key thing is the consistancy of the bass. So not interupting the bass wave with cancellation. What that looks liek is when the main wave is turning on and off. Its great that this guy is showing the scope on screen to show the result. What happens with cancellation is the level can be high but the perception / bass isnt as high as it could be. Great example at 13:14 where the rack is turned up but about 2/3rds of the way through the kick is turning off and back on again in the low end. Just to reiterate this issue, if you had a kick a quarter of the length of this, you know you cant get much bass out of it. Its really important to work like this with the visual to help. 5:51 is another good example of big cancellation after the attack 3 big spikes then it loses power. When reviewing tracks where people cant work out what is wrong, their kciks would often be like this and the culprit was them making kicks on kick2 vst and fault areas in the kick. If you want a loud kick, you need a constant low sub wave.
@@jonclsmdoe a lot of techno kicks have wild phase issues but it’s also what creates the movement and groove of the kick, whether it was intentional volume automations or fading or just straight up phasing. but that’s why i do use a scope so i can be intentional in my stacking. you always want to know what’s going on down there
I understand where you’re coming from, and I agree with your overall point that we need to pay attention to the phase relationship between the kick and the rumble, but I do not agree with your last point that there NEEDS to be a constant low end sub in order for the kick to be “loud”. Why would there need to be a single tone going on in the low end in order to make it loud? Because of the phase cancellation? Well, let’s say you have a rumble whose phase doesn’t change, but is out of phase with the kick. Yes, the kick and rumble together will lose some power, but you can then use some compression or distortion (or both) to squash the dynamics of the phase cancellation. But I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. Maybe you meant that the kick needs a constant low end sub wave in order to sound “good”. I would also disagree if this is the case. The low end is amplified massively in a club or festival setting. When you have a single low end tone playing in a club, it comes out as a solid wall of sound. This might be good in some parts of a track, but how are people supposed to dance to a sound with no groove or rhythm? They can’t. You need to have the interplay between low and low-mis frequencies in order to add a groove to the low end that people can dance to, and which is amplified in the club. And it’s possible that that groove comes from phase cancellation between the kick and rumble.
@jordanmartinez8652 I k ow what you mean. The pitch can change and all sorts but the drivers most important job is the low end. Its like saying to a person doing one thing of pumping their arms forward from their chest to their full extent away from them and then saying.. while doing that, now do this... I suppose maybe my point should say something like.. for maximum power don't ask uour kick to stop and start and not use the full range. Agreed above regarding complexities of kicks with reverb.
@@jonclsmdoe i would check out the waveform of some of these techno kicks in really popular tracks. the punch is usually a cleanish sin wave, but the back half of the kick is usually a rumbly mess that has all sorts of phasing and weird pitch stuff happening.

There are certainly ingenuity and great efforts in there, but I would advise nobody to layer kicks by default in such a way... You'll kill yourself from having a clear defined low end
not true. if you listen to techno and look at the waveforms of the kick you'll see that after the transient, the low end is very much atonal and rumbly.
@@raveyardsounds I'm not talking about rumbles, but just kicks itself being layered. Nothing to do with tonal or atonal kicks. If there are different ones on top of each other occupying the low end, you'll get phase issues 99%, as the waveform plugin was showing most of the time. Of course you can try to find the best phase relationship but it's already a compromise. Just saying like addind a punchy kick to get more punch is not a smart advise.

WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAT!?!"?!? U FKIN CRAZY
muahahahahahab 😈😈😈😈😈
CHOP SUEY VST can do it all, much faster, much safer, much better!
@@JH-bf6qy chop suey is dope!! i do prefer this as it’s what i use in all my tracks for the foundation of my kicks and it works great for me. so i do prefer this over chop suey
idk if it's actually better, here u have 50 mainroom techno kicks properly layered/processed, which samplepack u got with +50 layered kicks? no one, respect
5 years?
@@Mclennnan i started making techno in 2018-2019!! that’s when i first started studying how to make techno kicks and it’s been a journey to say the least
Hi, there is nothing on freebbies xD
to get access to the freebie bunker you will put in your email and then receive a link to the page!!! the product is called divinity techno kick generator and should be the second item on that page

you have to register then it does
i don't know man, i think you're oversamplicating it
Make great track if you can, i mean a GREAT track, your kick will be a part of it, but never that which makes or breaks a great track, to listen to a kick or many kicks in seperation is nuts and makes no sense...
