Been using the virtual home button (whatever its called) which works fine, but can be a bit of a pain. Wish I had the patience to do this. Excellent video.
Hello, hope you can answer this question, since the screen is initially adhered with some glue, we don't need to put more adhesive at all to put the screen back? (I know you didn't use adhesive but just want to make sure)
Excellent videos, I have this iPod and did a battery swap on it. That went well but now the home button doesn't work when put back together. If I take it apart I can physically click the dome and get it to function, but when together there is no clicky feel to the home button and no response. I did lose a bit of adhesive under the dome when I removed the shield for the battery swap. Any suggestions? Do I need a way to raise the dome up with more adhesive? What adhesive do I use or is this a sure tell sign of a bad switch. Thanks again for your wonderful videos and helping us DIY guys out.
Come on Apple, really? The amount you charge for these devices and someone has to melt glue to service it? I hope the Apple Executives have to have their hood unglued to get an oil change.
Brian Smith Glue has always been used to hold the screen, That isn't new. It's the easiest way to hold the screen down, And is very easy to melt, You don't really need a hair dryer or anything, A warm cloth held on it for a while will melt it too.
Thanks for posting this tutorial. Is the first switch piece just a puck of some kind, that doesn't need to be set with any particular side facing up? Also, I noticed that you didn't use the heat gun after re-assembly. Is that because the glue is still slightly soft and will take a few hours to completely cure again? Thanks...
+cytherians Yes when you reinstall the new home button the dome switch it needs to be be facing up where the arch is located on the dome switch, if you install it down you will notice it does not click correct and you could reheat the adhesive(No glue) if you like upon reassembly but it usually is still sticky enough to hold the new home button in place.
Hi sorry for mi spanglish, how should i call that replacement part, the tiny part with the black dot, because i need reppair a home button but i only get the entire flex and i want only the part that you are replace, thanks and sorry for mi spanglish again.
I ordered the home button (whole) can you please help me out how to fix it or can you tell how to get that small part out of the home button that I ordered
I took off the screen off then used a q-tip to see if it still clicks when you press it and it did, so I just used the smallest piece of black electrical tape, placed it right under the button, and works perfectly o_0
Hello, Yes the home button is available through the link below: www.outsourcerepairs.com/collections/oem-parts/products/apple-ipod-touch-5th-gen-home-button
Hey, my dome switch fell off , I bought a new flex cable thinking that the whole home button was damaged, I now realize my mistake. Can I take the done switch off the new flex cable and use that to repair my home button ?
I just ordered the button and want to clarify before I start. So the curve of the button faces up (towards bottom of actual home button)? Like an upside down bowl? Is the first grey button curved too? Thanks in advance.
+Kennnny77 Yes both dome switches/buttons will curve up(Like a mound) when installing, you will notice if the button is not correctly installed when you press it. If you have any further questions let me know.
If I pay you could you please fix my daughters IPOD 5th generation. The same one you did in this video. Her home button no longer works after dropping it at school. Everything else works fine. Its just that Home button. How much would it cost to have it fixed. I cant afford to send it to Apple for $150. Thats just crazy! I sense bought her the brand new 6th Generation IPOD but I sure would love to have the broken one for me :)
Adolfo Valerio What do you mean by hole? If you do not have a physical home button that touches the home button dome switch than yes you can repair just how it is.
My ipod 5th gens software crashed causing the phone to not open. no apple logo or anything, the ipod is not responding. the computer and itunes does not see the device. the only way to fix my ipod is to do a hard reset . i dont have a working home button to do the hard reset. This is not a battery dead issue. will this ipod be accepted? it doesnt turn on, charge or connect to a pc, it only needs a hard reset to be fixed. pls respond......
In your video you show 2 parts that must be installed, one on top of the other. However, I ordered from the link in the comments and you only sent one of the two. How come?
You should have received two. One dome switch attached to the Kapton tape and another dome switch that is unattached behind the first dome switch. In a case that you received only one dome switch which would be odd you could always contact us through the website you purchased the home button and request a replacement or use your previous dome switch. If you have any further questions please contact us.
Jessica Carpenter The device can be damaged if you either cracking the screen or if you rip the dock connector flex cable when installing a new home button dome switch.
hey, i have an ipod 5th gen with a broken home button and possibly a broken charging port or malfunctioning battery. it's not been in use for 2 years. Any idea what might be the problem or if it would even be fixable?
1halo1fan1 I have the same problem. I can't press my home button down or charge my iPod (I didn't use it for like 3 months) and now it doesnt turn on anymore. ;_;
My button was broken for a while probably about 8 months and my screen is just not responding anymore for about two days now .. Would this affect the process or should I just let it die and continue on?
Mimi Touray You can still replace the home button safely if the device is on but I would recommend letting the unit die before doing so. It is much safer to do a repair when the device is off. If you have any further questions please let me know.
pugetsoundelectronic, Some time ago you showed how to unlock T-Mobile LG Optimus L9 P769. I really like the wallpaper on your phone (tmobile). or it would be possible to send the wallpaper in jpg or png? greet
My home button us all the way in I kinda cleaned it but I think urs better if I send it to u so u can replace it would u b able to do n can I have the link so I can send it
To order mail in repair service please follow the link below: www.outsourcerepairs.com/collections/apple-ipad-ipod-iphone-repairs/products/apple-ipod-touch-5th-gen-home-button-repair-service
+Soma Like I said, you have to charge it to a certain point (eventually a white apple logo will appear) then you can use it though I don't recommend doing so until your IPod/IPhone charge is at least white somewhat.
Umm well i did this step by step but now the screen doesnt react . For example u slide to unlock but doesnt do anything and the button didnt work either
If your device has water damage I suggest you take the device in to a local repair shop that has an ultrasonic cleaner and get the logic board cleaned. Battery & the dock connector flex cable may need to be replaced. If you have any further questions please let me know.
+gerardo mercado The camera did not pick up what I was referencing, there is two small tabs on each side of the Kapton tape that need to be facing right and left not up and down.
NahTrust I did what you did, I stuck a flathead in their and popped it out. Then I cut a piece of rubber-band and put some electrical tape over it and it works fine. It has been disabled for over a year and I finally fixed it.
I've done this. A huge pain in the ass. Poor design, this gen iPod has many failures with the home button. I've also done iPad screen replacements and battery replacements. I'm not throwing a $600 iPad away because of batteries that are worn out. Apple wants you to throw these devices away. The laptops these days are the same. You can't do shit with them.
should i go practice on the operation game first or should i just go for a medical degree?!
practice on broken devices first and start with easier repairs like iphones before doing ipods

Hello, I see in the video that you do not use glue to seal the ipod, if not close well you have to add some glue? thx for the vid
+Javier Hassan Yes you can add a liquid adhesive or use double sided tape to seal the unit.
Could you please post the link for the dome switch part? Thanks.
+Martin M www.outsourcerepairs.com/collections/oem-parts/products/apple-ipod-touch-5th-gen-home-button
Are you suppose to heat up the adhesive after you're done too?
Video is excellent but where is the link for the home button?

If i cant order that little gold and silver piece will it work if i change it from my ipod 4 or iphone 5 to ipod 5g
Hi, thanks for your video, is it necessary to warm up the screen before to remove it? Is it glued?
Thanks a lot
MeinlHm Yes the screen is adhered down to the shield in the Ipod, you will need to use heat to remove the screen.
if we put screen back in the tabs, do we to use a heat gun again to stick the screen back to the base?
where can i order the kapton tape and dome switches from? Is there another name for them?
Thanks for posting this tutorial. Is the first switch piece just a puck of some kind, that doesn't need to be set with any particular side facing up? Omg! I would buy that part if you ship to UK. I cant find a site that sells the OEM.
Danny Sillence We can ship to the UK but the shipping is very expensive.
pugetsoundelectronic I would of guess. :(
I ordered the home button (whole) can you please help me out how to fix it or can you tell how to get that small part out of the home button that I ordered
+Kay Yes I can assist you, what do you mean you received the "Whole" home button? Please advise so I may assist you.
MVsmith the adhesive is completely covering the LCD not just corners
I took off the screen off then used a q-tip to see if it still clicks when you press it and it did, so I just used the smallest piece of black electrical tape, placed it right under the button, and works perfectly o_0
Are you still offering the switch for sale? The web page doesn't seem to work.
Hello, Yes the home button is available through the link below:

Nice wallpaper on your iPod. Is that you ?
Lol no it's not.
Hey, my dome switch fell off , I bought a new flex cable thinking that the whole home button was damaged, I now realize my mistake. Can I take the done switch off the new flex cable and use that to repair my home button ?
Where do you find dummy switches at ??
I just ordered the button and want to clarify before I start. So the curve of the button faces up (towards bottom of actual home button)? Like an upside down bowl? Is the first grey button curved too? Thanks in advance.

Thanks and I appreciate the help. Button should be here Monday so I'll let ya know.
How can i tell if it's the dome switch or the home button itself that does not work?
can you do it also whit a hair dryer?
+jonas podevyn You can try to loosen the adhesive with a blow dryer, it may take a little longer but it should work.
jonas podevyn yes you can use a hair dryer
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. That was much easier than replacing dock connector 🤓.
Your welcome, thank you for the feedback.
How do you completely remove the pins that stayed pasted on the board?
I lost my iPod button. Is there any device that has the home button that can be used in it? Or the iPod button is unique it?
I have a iPod 5 and my button is stuck
Mine is pushed in and idk how to make go back to normal
Hello, You will need to replace the home button and it should resolve your issue.

Does anyone know what the problem is when my iPod doesn't turn on unless I plug it into a charger where it only shows a red battery?
+Soma That means it is dead and you must keep charging it
+amber080483 it's a broken red battery
+Soma Like I said, you have to charge it to a certain point (eventually a white apple logo will appear) then you can use it though I don't recommend doing so until your IPod/IPhone charge is at least white somewhat.

Hard to say how much someone else would charge but I would suspect between $30-$70 to clean the logic board. You can always call and ask.

+Jason Schwerkolt The Ipod 5th gen in the video was a customers Ipod, not mine and I do not know why they had the screen turned all the way down.
+pugetsoundelectronic for the video tune the brightness up then when u ship it turn it down. Why should they care
