Just a couple of comments....comparing the price to the Bambu P1S ($600 USD/$460 GBP) would be a better comparison as that one has a plastic enclosure and less advanced electronics than the X1C. Also, the Bambu build plate is 256x256x256 not 226(x3) as I believe you stated. Otherwise, nice job, always enjoy your reviews....you're the reason I got my first Elegoo (have since added 2 P1S's LOL).

thank you mate those are very fair comments and thank you for the correction - 2 x P1s - that's just greedy lol

Or comparing it against the creality k1, which is the same price. I have the K1, and it is a good printer. It has a cast aluminium frame with a mix of plastic and glass panels, giving it a more premium feel. Doesn't have that quick change nozzle, which is pretty impressive and also doesn't come with a filter. However, that is something you can add. Overall I'd say the K1 is up there in value for money.

Thank you for the review. I realize that some 3d printers are meant for the hobbyist, and that is fine. However, for someone who prints as often as you do and as much as you do, you really should take a closer look at 3d printers that have dual print heads (dual extruder). These are used to print 1 filament for structural, and 1 for support such as bridging, tree and linear supports which are generally printed from a "soluble" filament. Or, possibly go with a 3d print head that tilts, ie a 5-axis 3d printer.

i ve seen a recent video about the possible dangers of these filaments, and it makes sense. be careful not to breath in too much of the plastic dust or who knows what! also on the fingers! maybe a good venting system?!

Great review! Analogy of selection of automobile based on needs is great (clear and concise.) Would like to see some printed parts of the two compared. Cheers!

    Hi
The nozzle thing being a pro or con depends on ho much they cost. I didn't hear you give a price or a comparison with "normal" stuff.
But thanks for the video. I am becoming interested in 3d printing now that things are maturing and price / features is coming down.
I hate "walled garden" stuff, which is why I would never buy anything Apple.

The bottom is plastic as far as i see, so the frame is not all metal, or is it not? How does it print abs, abs, nylon compared to bambulab?

Robert, always nice to see you sir. I need to make a print of a back cover for a tablet to accommodate an extended battery pack. It snaps and locks into place around the chassis of the tablet. I believe that would over stress the laminating causing a failure. Even by government standards it would be fiscally irresponsible to have an injection mold made to produce maybe three pieces. Even coating with super glue may not increase the strength bin this plane to hold together. Do you think if covering with a release agent and encasing the print in plaster baked in in an oven for say 45 mins at the melting temp for the filament used, bust it out after cooled, would it be as durable as an injection molded piece. I value your opinion very much.

    • @ThinkingandTinkering
      @ThinkingandTinkering  28 дней назад

it all depends on the filament you use mate - you might be better off with a stronger filament like a carbon fiber re-enforced one - it is hard to control shrinkage and warping in an oven baked piece

That's a nice quick change out.
It'll be real handy should it get clogged.

i agree - personally i think the swap out nozzle is a clever idea - it being a pain has certainly put me off and now it being so easy means I for one will experiment a bit more with it

Seems like a lot of pros. 006 size smaller might not be that important, especially with the price range and ease of use aligning with people new to 3D printing. Trading software vendor-unlock with possibly significant advantages in exchange for a trivially more expensive tip with definite advantages, also seems win-win-ish, particularly given target market. Time will tell if the tip clogs or not with new quick change and load-load methods.

  • @CCoburn3

3D printing is a rapidly changing technology. The printer you buy today will be out of date in six months. Of course, you're not going to throw it away just because it is no longer the latest technology. But it makes no sense to spend extra for steel construction that will last 20 years. You're not likely to keep using the printer that long. I think the Flashforge people understand that. Bambu wants to make a name for building premium printers. So they have over-engineered their line of printers. But manufacturers like Flashforge have a more realistic (in my opinion) view of the market. I'd expect Bambu to offer cutting-edge technology to the well-heeled, but within a short time, people like Flashforge will have copied it.
