    The barrels don't have a main spring?? I have an older ridgeway with these type barrels and everything seems to be working fine but the pendulum is not receiving energy to keep swinging. The clock hands, ticking and chimes work fine, but the pendulum doesn't receive energy to keep swinging.

      It could be out of beat, have worn pivots, broken suspension spring or others things. Hard to say without seeing it

    Hi Chris , do I have to take apart the clock into pieces in order to replace the cable? this is my first time working on a Hamilton Grandfather clock?
    Thank you,
    Mateos.

      No not typically, but it does require that you remove the movement from the case

    Thanks Chris, that was very informative. If you didn’t have a spare clock around for parts, where could you aquifer the replacement spring.

    Hey Chris do you know if you can ultra sonic bath a quart clock movement? I have some carriage clocks, Bulova, Hamilton, Seiko, which aren't running and I understand corrosion at the battery terminal to the pcb board is often the problem...rather than disassemble the movement....do you think I can put it in an ultrasonic bath? Your thoughts appreciated

      I really don’t know. I don’t have an ultrasonic bath and couldn’t tell you what it would do to a quartz movement. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful on this one

    Where do you get spring steel wire small in diameter for sessions clicks

    • @Chrisclockrepair
      @Chrisclockrepair  2 года назад

      You can buy spring wire from timesavers or you can by a coil spring at the hardware store with diameter you need and straighten a section of it out

    I wind the main spring and I release tension the key turns in reverse in my hand as it unwinds. Any idea??? Thank You

      @Chrisclockrepair  3 года назад +1

      The click is not engaging the ratchet wheel when you wind it and so it unwinds when you release tension.
