Deffinitelly it was a very accurate interview. Chris and Neil they have a very special sense of humor, at the same time they have Humble way to foccuss social life to inspire on composing their music and songs. I really like their songs and music.
What a nasty way of starting an interview to these two great talents. I have been a big fan since I was 9. The first song I listened to was Always on my mind on a Spanish TV show where they performed. As a lover of English language, I liked using lyrics for improving my listening skills and I fell in love with Neil's accent. My first cassette was Behaviour, I still keep it. So elegant and charming. A great band, like many other acts coming from the UK.
“I’m not your number one fan boy.”....the interviewer said. well I’m definitely their top fan boy. They made me love synthesizers and make music!! My uncle introduced me to them...
Not that it matters more or less because I am not gay personally but I would like them to know that they wrote the themetune to my early years. It often irritates me that such a great duo never to my mind got the accolades the music merited. Some of the most popular well known and most danced to music. They survived like an electronic rolling stone. All I can say is thankyou. One of the first Albums I purchased and song that sing so many times and emotions in my life. I would love to meet the boys and say thankyou. Somehow I hope this comment makes its way back through the internet ether and says it for me.
Glorious interview. My first thought is that Pete Tong doesn't even deserve to be in the same room as these two legends but to be fair It must be a tough gig and I think he did well.
Shame the setup for the interview was evidently not as good as it could've been. Firstly, I don't think Pete Tong is a particularly good interviewer who showed a clear lack of genuine interest and was ill-prepared, simply reading facts from his Wikipedia notes. Secondly, the audio is poor for an 'International Music Summit' with no proper radio/wireless mics, no audio compression and Chris struggling to hear the questions properly. At least Pet Shop Boys gave some good answers and had some nice stories to tell.
What an enjoyable interview! I've been a fan of the Pet Shop Boys since 1984 when I fell in love with West End Girls. This is the only group whose albums I can play over and over again and not get tired of them. Neil Tennant is so articulate and a great conversationalist, but I sensed that Chris Lowe wasn't comfortable when asked a question. He's obviously very shy, always hiding behind sunglasses, which is unfortunate as I would like to see what he looks like nowadays. He's the one I want to hear more stories from because he seems to be quite interesting. I've seen the Pet Shop Boys in concert twice here in the US, and I'm so grateful for being able to see them live. They put on quite a good show. I'm glad the gal playing on her phone moved out of the camera's view. I found her very distracting and couldn't imagine that she would be doing that during a taped interview!
@@killerdillr Yello?!? But...no electric duo.....done so much...for such a long time....for so many others....and some other genres of music. Sure...allso like Soft Cell and many others🙂👍
These two are the best band legends. I been a fan and would love t see them live. What is irritating is that over here in the u.s.a I feel no one knows theM they're a great band and anyone who doesn't know them should not die Without listening to them
the pet shop boys actually never talk so much. in this interview they seem very, very open. the interviewer just doesn´t get it and interrupts Neils free flow of talking all the time. So annoying.
Interviewing Neil and Chris can be very stodgy, you need to have an interviewer who truly understands their sense of music, humor, fashion etc. Especially with Chris ... he doesn't like the public side of being a musician, so you need to draw him out with references and ideas that appeal to him. You need to work with their charm, not against it. This is not a very watchable interview for these reasons. Oh well! :)
They are real perfectionist....in the same time doing so many, for so long, for so many others... Still bringing a lot of good...interesting music.....with words which are not yust frases ore empty. One of my favorites bands....for, ups....soon will be 40 years!!!!!!!! 🙂👍🍀🎵🎼🎶🍾🏖👌
Darn! Finally I listen Chris Lowe saying the Bee Gees (one of my absolute favourite bands ever) asked them to do a remix for them. What a shame they felt intimidated. I've always wondered why the PSB never did a Bee Gees cover. There still time, boys!
Genius, class, very funny. And they manage to transcend Pete Tong's awkwardness. PSB was the first music I loved. I'd have been about 7 years old. I remember hearing Opportunities 'let's make lots of money' and thinking, 'I'm sure they don't believe that', and puzzling over it...so this would be where I first learned about irony. Also, 57 mins into this, Neil says 'I think Donald Trump's going to win' - to have that insight several months before the result is impressive. So many pollsters got it wrong - Neil is a pop stars but called it right. My dream dinner party is these two plus Michel Foucault.
I could feel the impatience of the host. How rude this guy was... he should not be chosen to host this interview. PSB was & is a legend. I love them soooooo much!
Terrible choice fir interviewing the Two ABSOLUTE GENIUSES OF MODERN DAY MUSIC THEY have so much class they humor him such a pity these guys have to run into that
Reading the last comment....not finding the interviewer rude or disrespectful at all. He admitted he wasn't a top fan, but knew a lot of their history and in his interview he proved that. I think this interview is fantastic. Nothing new diehards don't already know...but nostalgic nonetheless. Cheers to this awesome band. Just hope the next album is better than the last one!
I love the fact that they don't go political and try to carry their opinions on gay culture. It makes them more appealing to multiple groups of people. They stayed in their lane and that's why they can still get huge crowds at their shows. These guys are the real deal!! 💯 ❤️ 💙 💜
It's really interesting seeing this and how intentional they have been about their business and success. We often think of pop stars as being just sort of thrust upon their fame.
very nice and professional interview with good and interesting questions about music, production and ideas behind this epic group. I really enjoyed it a lot !
This interviewer did an absolutely horrific job with this opportunity. Why would IMS organizers have someone who seemed intent on conveying early on how little he was interested in the PSB's body of work ("... I did take a look at Wikipedia this afternoon...") conduct this interview? "There could be nobody else"? Really?
I been listening your music seems the 80. I uses work at the Ritz in Nyc. I would listen to your music before going to work. I still love your music! . I love you guys. 💕
Pete Tong should stick to do whatever he does put he is an AWFUL interviewer. Chris doesn't engage with him at all and you can tell as the interview goes on as he doesn't want to talk to him around the 41:00 mark. I never will understand why the people in the power puts these people together hoping that somehow they will gel. I have seen this before in festivals that people with 0% personality get the jobs at interviewing people and they are abysmal. PSB are great Pete Tong isn't.
This is exactly what I was going to comment (thank you for doing so much better than I could have). I guess he's a famous Interviewer, but he admittedly isn't a "fan boy" which is unfortunate. You want the Interviewer to be a fan- or at least have a lot of knowledge on who they are interviewing.
"I am not really a fan boy", what a great way to start an interview. Adoration or sarcasm? It was off putting, luckily PSB were a good sport. Awful interview.
It might have made them slightly nervous, I don't know but I always tend to see them oozing with self confidence? Not sure they were utterly comfortable in this setting. Or with that framework...
