    DUDE!!!! I just replaced all 4 door lock modules on my 2009 Jetta Sportwagen. I got all the door lock modules from a junkyard, so there was a risk of all not working, but turned out to be only one that didn't work, the left rear door. I was so bummed after hours of work, but after watching your video, discovered I could manually lock that door!!! So excited! Thank you! (this saves me another trip to the junkyard!)

    Holy $#!T this worked.
    Just bought a used Q5. A few days later I learned that the rear passenger door wasn’t locking. I spent $100 on a new actuator, took the whole door apart, then realized I needed a triple square bit for the last two screws. I was looking for some replacement screws since mine were already slightly stripped when I came across this video. Decided to give it a try…. Now I actually get a chirp when I lock the doors. Hopefully I still have time to return the actuator I bought.

    For me, it was the driver's door that stopped to lock with the remote. Unlike the other 3 doors, there is no adjustable 'switch' underneath the grommet on the driver's door. What solved my problem with inserting the key to manually lock/unlock the car. After a few times, the chirp came back, even when using the remote.

    Very interesting adjustment feature you've revealed here. What I believe that adjuster does is adjust the setting/triggering of the small micro switch located in that area of the lock. The VW Polo locks can also be troublesome and central locking misfunctions. Quite often it is the micro switch failing to operate properly that causes issues with central locking. It seems on these later locks that an improvement of a micro switch adjuster has been added by the manufacturer.

    A big thanx from me too! The rear lock on my 2009 A3 hadn't worked (the actuator worked but the door wouldn't release using the outside handle) for months and I was just about to go to the trouble and expense of pulling the door apart and replace the mechansim when I watched your video. Within 5 mins, it was working again!! Not quite as straight forward as turning the actuator though - I had to turn the actuator 90 degs clockwise and hold it there while firmly pulling on the door release lever on the inside of the door a few times. This seemed to reset something in the locking mechanism. I closed the door, locked it, then unlocked it and tried opening it from the outside with the handle and.... sucess!! :-) Thanx so much - now I don't have to waste my weekend working on my car!

  • @Banannaise
    @Banannaise 6 лет назад +2

    Worked for me! 2017 A4, rear driver's side door. What you actually found is the emergency door lock mechanism. If you turn that screw to the outside, then shut the door, that will lock the door and prevent it from being opened from the outside until you open it from the inside.
    Looks like cycling the emergency lock relieves issues with the electronic door lock actuator, at least temporarily.

  • @JeffSmallwood1

    Yet another Thank You! My actuator failed in the rear passenger door and it was causing non-stop re-locking behavior every time I hit 10mph because the system knew not all the doors were locked. Locking the doors with fab or door controls did nothing to the rear door. Although the actuator isn't fixed I was looking for a temporary solution since I almost never use that door and this worked perfectly and saved me a few hundred $! The controls you demonstrated got the door to lock when it was closed the first time and the system registered all doors locked when I clicked the door control. As long as that door isn't opened again the problem has gone away. Now I know what to do next time the door is open and it has to be reset. Thanks!!

  • @anempiricaldesign
    @anempiricaldesign 7 лет назад +33

    That isn’t an adjustment to the actuator, it’s the mechanical door lock mechanism. Because the front passenger and rear doors don’t have key holes, each door has this mechanical lock mechanism for when the electronic locks don’t work. As soon as you open the door from inside the car it will reset to the unlocked position.

    • @wizbang68
      @wizbang68 6 лет назад +5

      or the mechanism froze in one position and it needed a bit of help to start moving again. (I would think for an older vehicle a bit of lubricant would be also needed to keep things moving)

    • @finno123456
      @finno123456 6 лет назад

      Robert Milner he adjusted it when there was no need to the blue mark line up means it was already adjusted. If it had moved then adjust it back to line up on the blue mark. Normally a squirt of wd40 fixes the actuator when sprayed into it. If it doesn't work after that a new one is required. Hence nobody should adjust stuff like this only if you know what your doing. It can be dangerous ie the door opening for no reason

    • @anempiricaldesign
      @anempiricaldesign 6 лет назад +20

      The "dial" that this guy turns is not a "tuning" dial. Open your door up, pop out the rubber grommet, turn the "dial" counter clockwise until it stops (if you door is already unlocked it will maybe turn a 1/4 turn). Now close your door and open it. Verify it's unlocked? Ok. Now open the door back up and turn the "dial" clockwise and when you feel just the slightest resistance turn it just a bit more until you feel it pop over, that's the locking mechanism engaging. Now close your door. It should be locked. Now unlock that door (with your key fob or open it from the inside handle). The "dial" will be back to the first original position; the unlocked position. My point, it's not an "adjustment dial." It's merely used to manually lock the door when the electronics don't work or there is no power so that you can still secure your car by locking the doors.
      If something related to this mechanical part of the system froze, turning this "dial" could unfreeze it and fix yourproblem. But there is no "fine tuning adjustment" to make as this video suggests.

    The function of these two locks is pretty simple really and is explained in your owner's manual. The child safety lock prevents the door from being opened from the inside (logical). The other lock prevents the door from being opened from the outside. This will definitely not fix any real problem with the actuator you have. Simply put, your problem might have been solved because someone else before you was playing with these locks and the second one was put in a locked status.

    Love the video and I’m liking the comments, been holding off from not going to pay probably for an actuator when it’s as simple as this. I’ll come back and update my comment if this works lol.

    Awesome video, I have the same problem, the right rear door wont lock. however this adjustment for my audi a4 2013 only has 2 settings, one for unlock and lock for the exterior door latch. right now I've adjust it to lock and the chirping when i lock with the fob is back. However i cannot unlock the door from the outside. Probably just going to leave it like that until i really need to use the rear door.

    In my AudiA6 2000, glass doors started sliding up and down until my battery was dead. My mechanic told me to change the central actuator or unplug the driver side lock. Now my driver side lock don't work with the electronic key but rest of the doors are fine. Any tip?

    Hello, I did this fix and it fixed the problem for a while, then it went faulty again and I had to readjust and fix it again. Not a hard or time consuming fix however can be very annoying.
    Does anyone know what to do if this problem keeps reoccurring, as in how do I keep the adjuster from moving ? Thanks

    My 2016 Q3 has had this issue for gosh knows how long. It gives me a lot of anxiety sitting in parking lots as it wouldn’t lock on either front doors. Figured it would cost an arm and a leg.
    Well. Googled it up and I just won some MAJOR points with my husband ;). Went outside at midnight and had him hold the flashlight. All it took was turning one doors “reset thing you showed”. Bing bang boom…
    Locked the entire car up like new lol.
    My husband is so impressed lol! Ty!

    My 08 S5 is having the same problem so I checked the door for the grommet with the lock on it.. I take the grommet off and I see a similar white knob/switch except mine doesn’t have a groove it’s just flat and I can’t turn it. Any ideas?

    Just read the manual. That's there as a switch to manually lock your car if the central locking ever fails.

    So, I have the same problem and tried to do what you do in the video here, but it doesn't look exactly like that. There's nothing there when I remove the grommet. But! If I shove my key (screwdriver, whatever) in the hole, something gets pushed back & clicks. But it doesn't seem to stay that way. I'm stumped.

  • @jaowen9540

    My 2003 A4 passenger rear door is not locking. I found the rubber grommet and when I removed it there wasn't this white piece to adjust. Just a hole. I stick the key in and it hits something that will then lock the door. To unlock the door I have to open the door from the inside. I now have a car I can completely lock, but it is a PITA because if I don't lock the door by this "stick key in slot" method, every time I hit 10 mph the automatic lock tries to completely lock the car, but it can't because of the PITA problem. Thoughts anyone?

    Yes or u didn’t have to pay the thieves at the dealership $400 dollars for a “in-depth mechanical diagnosis and a fine calibrated adjustment” 😂. I have a love/hate relationship w the dealer.

    I tried to turn it to the right (lock position) and the car would lock. The remote would unlock the door but it won't lock back up.I have to turn the yellow switch to lock position again to get it locked. I'm thinking my actuator has gone bad.
