I bought this and is my first emulation handheld I've ever purchased. Besides the preloaded games, and access to Google Play games, I like streaming Game Pass on this device. Much more convenient than clipping an Xbox controller onto my iPhone.
I've been paying $ for all these small handhelds over the years and in the end, at the end of the day, after getting the ROG ALLY alongside an ODIN 2 Mini, I've never had the desire to buy any of these anymore. They are all just the same or very similar. Spending more on the Rog Ally was well worth it. Odin 2 mini as well. But at least now, i don't have to go back and buy these devices every month, (since there seems to be a new one every month). And believe me, it all adds up to be more than a Rog Ally. All of these devices play the same exact games as the previous one, it just became crazy to me. Yah, had fun tinkering with these devices, and setting them up, but man, tinkering with Odin 2 Mini and Rog Ally is 10 times better. I guess i'll play my RGB30 and my Miyoo Mini from time to time, but yah, these new devices coming out every week, it's just not exciting anymore. Peace.
if i want performance on the go i have my msi gaming laptop running mortal kombat 1 ultra maxed out 1440p settings if i want a cute nostalgic portable this , this is perfect.
That's the colorway I just ordered on sale as well. Would've got the black if it was solid black, instead of transparent that Anbernic is obsessed with for some reason but it is what it is.
I'll be honest; I'm really digging the RG406V. I love the form factor, the looks, and from what I can tell it'll run pretty much everything I want to play. The main reason I held off on buying the last gen RG405V, which I otherwise really liked, was a concern that the T618 wouldn't be able to play enough of the 6th gen library to justify the money it commanded. Thanks to packing the T820 this unit seems like a much better value in that regards. For many people something like the Odin2 is endgame, but, for me I'm thinking this will be endgame. I'm looking forward to seeing ETA's full review before I make a buying decision. If you read this, I hope you enjoy your vacation, ETA. Requests: "Grid: Autosport" for Android and "WRC: Rally Evolved" for PS2, please. PS: I noticed that ETA's voice changed. Or, more accurately, it reverted back to the way it used to sound five or six years ago. New microphone, or maybe he dug out his old microphone for a reason? Either way, it was a chill throwback that fit the video's content. I liked it.
Really great overview, looking forward to the review. I'm keen to know how it handles 3DS games, Mario Golf specifically. Understand if you can't include that for copyright reasons, but maybe you can let me know if you get a chance to test it out. Fingers crossed, anyhow keep up the great work!
As someone that plays mostly up to 32 bit games with some ps1 and psp games (DS and 3ds still on the 3ds, one day I'll have a dualscreen android console at an affordable price), I'm loving the configuration of this one. Dpad seems good and I love the orientation. I'll wait for your more indeep review., right now the only point for me is the power consumption
I just dont get the form factor with the analog sticks cramping your hands like that as opposed to more of a landscape layout. Its seems like anbernic pumps these devices out each week and lets the consumers do the R&D or QC.
I have an R36S and I don't have any issues with the sticks cramping my hands. Or, more accurately, no worse than horizontal handhelds I've used. I'm seriously considering getting an RG406V because I'm expecting it to be an R36S with a bigger screen and a whole lot more power. I guess I'm solidly in the minority here.
Nah vertical handhelds are more comfortable to play with for longer hours and the aesthetics are spot on for retro gaming. I really enjoy my 405V and this will be a great upgrade.
It’s crazy that anbernic has enough materials to make these things. Cant imagine how much they sell if they all are just clones with different variations.
ETA i haven't watched a video in a while. Whats up with the voice? Reminds me of when the daily dose internet guy changed his vernacular. Don't drop that, Carolina??? Accent
I would like to see a video of how these higher end devices use custom front ends like ES. I would assume that you would have to switch between ES and android depending on what you are going to play.
Its extremely hard to play first person shooters because the back buttons and joystick are both hard to reach at the same time. Even racing games that use r2 for acceleration while using the joystick. Something just gets in the way. I think its the bump grips.
I didnt see the shoulder buttons till the end also is this dockable? and or what type of charging ports and im sure you will tell us battery life in real world testing and can it be overclocked to run higher emulations better? also some kind of 3d prionted grips could probably make this a little easier to hold when using sticks but for small form factor this thing is awesome looking. also can it run any other os other than android? part 2 do they give you access to the firmware in case of incident or malfunction?
Is retroid pocket 4 pro more powerful and better? Tryna decide this or that. I do like the Gameboy form factor. But I want to play PS2 and GameCube games
The d1100 that the RP4 pro has is slightly more powerful, but in real life performance or rather use to use you won't notice too much of a difference, it really depends on your budget and your comfort, to be honest you can't go wrong with both devices, if your main focus is up to PSP, then yes either one is a solid choice they will both run games practically flawless..... However if you do plan on playing GC or PS2 go for the rp4 pro or the rp5 that is practically already out.....but if I were you go for the Odin 2, it is slightly pricey and bigger but you should have no issues with high end emulation
Dumb question, do emulators like NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1, DC, PS2 and GC run better on Android compared to x86 ones (like the Intel N100) with less resources?
I have a rog Ally, could anyone tell me a practical and simple launcher to add emulators with one click, or that already has all the emulators built-in? thanks!
The T820 in the RG406V is a huge upgrade over the T618 in last year's RG405V. It has got about double the Antutu score. Geekbench scores are hugely improved as well. Finally, it is built on a much smaller node (6nm vs. 12nm) so it should run a lot cooler too.
New Week, New Anbernic
But this is one of the actual important ones. Getting to reliable ps2/gc performance is an important milestone for this form factor.
let's call that day the anberweek
New hour new Anbernic
I’m all for it. Options 🤗
@A2D
That evil Anbernic grin got me! LOL ☠
When you flipped it over the face was crazy, but in the front face, it looks like a cat face is smiling at you, like a cute little cat!

Maybe ai Voice?
Now Anbernic give us this in a "Flip" format ala Gameboy SP!!
That would be sweet to have the SP format with this much power.
Just wait a day or two; it's Anbernic.
Lol true!
You ok man?
