Gef Ramos The Heritage Singers is formed mostly by Seventh-day Adventist folk. They were originally The Rose City Singers from Portland Oregon in 1969, and as they went to sing outside of the company they worked for in that city, the success was such that they became a Christian singing group as we see now. The rest is history and they have been around for almost 50 years.
Jesus is coming soon and over 160 years ago through Ellen G White, He warned against this dance music being brought into the churches with drums, and it will be called, "the moving of The Holy Spirit" but it is of Another spirit. The song teaches false doctrine as well "I believe in an old rugged cross" We SDAS believe in Jesus Christ Who died on the cross, not In a Crucifix, a pagan symbol of sun worship. Also the song begins by glorifying pagan Cathedrals with solar sun symbols. In Jesus Worthy name please stop playing this music to gullible SDAS who don't know better and sing hymns or songs which lift up Jesus' Name.
Lovely harmonies, but the group needs to have more upbeat songs in their repertoire like they did when they were originally brought together. Too many Church groups concentrate on slow songs that to be honest lack musicality other than harmony. Music should be far more comprehensive than just that as nice as that is, how about some rousing praise and celebration. Otherwise it is in danger of becoming just Christian elevator music. The Church is already asleep, how about we wake them up...
11 trains, What do you mean? God's music does not exist to entertain people. The world has enough of that. If you don't like real praise to God and the reverence He deserves go to a club. The music in most churches nowadays is influenced by rock and roll which the devil created to entertain the masses, and to be truthful, it does not belong in church. If people come to church to sleep they have a serious problem.
Ed I agree, ;like you I find most modern church music abhorrent, lyrically many church songs these days are simply about "self" not focusing on Gods wonderful attributes and praising to Him. My comment in this was more covering the musicality. It is true that it is possible to go too far with "musicality" and it simply becomes a performance or a rock concert. So it is a hard line to balance. I have just noted that many of these songs were lacking in dynamics and uniqueness. Modern church songs from all denominations also seem to trend towards three chord repetition. God gave us the ability to do so much more as this group did originally as well as their personalities shone lovely as well. Having said that as well, I would rather have a song that Honors God and is less than musically pleasing than to sing many of the modern catchy songs that talk about "self" all the time. I am a musician and frequently get myself into trouble at church for challenging songs for their poor lyrics as if the words are wrong/bad then the song is simply not suitable for life in general let alone in Church. Music shouldn't be there to simply entertain people that is right, but if well written it will bring a level of pleasure both to God and man, making it much easier to give thanks with a grateful heart. contrasted by multiple three chord songs all the same risks folks not taking the writers words seriously. I suspect this new technological world we live in has contributed to this decline in musicality as these generations simply push a button to make a noise not unlike a advanced children's toy. Where in past musicians had to be scholars of how music relates to the listener, hence it was in itself refereed to as another language. Music should enhance the words with rises and falls crescendos etc to basically add musical colour like you would use a highlighter in a book, it adds colour to the spoken word. I am not sure if I have explained what I was meaning to say well? I hope so. PS: The devil may have mastered music, but God created it...
11trains, I got it, and agree with you. Being a musician of sorts I considered the old hymns whole sermons because they spoke of people's real experience in conversion and Christian living. Today's praise songs are mostly too repetitious for my taste in Christian music. I wonder if Christian music will take another turn this time for the better?
I disagree regarding Christian elevator music. I think every song the Heritage Singers do is awesome and thru their music they have led many people to Christ. I don't think Heritage could do a bad song. Awesome singers!

Please don't add up heresies to discourage people from meditating on Christ and what he did for us.
