- We were able to see 94% of the total eclipse!
The guys are working on improving drainage to a field that has a lot of surface water . They put in a catchment system that I didn't fully understand the purpose of. The guys help me understand. :)
Thanks for watching!

Great work Everyone and Thank You for showing us the eclipse👍🙏😎
It's all clear as mud, Rhonda. ( just your basic drain).
Water is Always an Issue but GOD knows we need a Lot of it for Everything to Grow. Farmers know ALL about it and proper drainage is extremely important. 👍🙏
Nice view of the eclipse, great to see weather getting better, stay safe working.
Good job making them explain the tile situation. My eyes felt weird on eclipse day as well.
Thanks for the great video guys the eclipse was amazing and work doing the tiling was very interesting we have done similar work using a round or square type not a plastic one having fun not to get splashed with with the sloppy stuff too much bye for now ❤
I concur with you! Number one, don’t understand why it’s called “tile” when it looks like large pvc. Lots more numbers I could add as I still don’t understand but I was educated a smidge more with this video! Thanks for the education!!!
Good morning and great video Rhonda. Didn't get to see the eclipse here it was to cloudy. Good luck with the tile work 👍
I used to do field tiling in the 1980's with cement tiles before every one went to all plastic tile it was hard work. Brought back memories bad ones because it was hard work no not really bad ones just memories.
Beautiful work love you all ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great sparring between mom and Ethan, funny. Cheers.
We have dry land farming in Saskatchewan and Alberta. I am not familiar with "tile". However, we had a garage built in our backyard a few years ago. The contractor installed drainage tile at the base of foundation that drains out to the back lane. He also put about 6 inches of course gravel over the drainage tile before covering it up with topsoil.
Bravo Rhonda Kevin and family the eclipse was amazing thanks for sharing your stuff blessings
Thanks for the video, Rhonda! Great progress on the tile system using the excavator - it makes the work so much easier! Have a great day!! 😀
The big holes in that barrel will let the dirt into the tile line and risk plugging it. Washed stone or clear gravel around a drain pipe helps. Where I live we put a T connector in the line and use either a larger diameter piece of tile or a pvc pipe with holes cut in it placed vertically out of the T for the drain pipe and then stone around it.
Love your videos
Oh m goodness. Sixx years. Or something. Lv and enjoy your channel. Lv always.
Two kiddos. Got married.. you still got the love of ur life. You couldn't. Ask. For. Everything. You and your husband. Give them Kidds. You what I appreciate 💟. You folks are just like me.. and. . That makes me happy 😊..
Enjoyed the comments how tile works. Meet chickens ready before you know it. Your friend from Virginia.😊😊
Strangest thing during the total eclipse was every direction looked like the sunset.
Well, the things you’re doing on that ditch work looks quite interesting. Would’ve enjoyed to see a lot more of it. Hopefully you can show us more about their progress as they go along.
Nice one Ronda
2nd Eclipse in seven (7) years with 100% coverage both in 2017 and 2024 (3 min. 0 sec.) in So. Illinois. 2024 was a Lot more Popular since it was ALL over News. 👍🙏
Thanks for sharing.
I used a welding helmet glass like you did then we had cloud cover an I could just see it through the cloud and took photos that way.
Thanks for a beautiful video
My brother and I passed a welding helmet back and forth. We sit in the yard for about an hour. It did not get real dark here in south central Kansas.
When I was in my early teens we had a man come to the farm with a wheel ditcher every spring! My siblings and I wore our selves out carrying clay tile to the ditcher and my dad walked the ditch and fed the ditcher! Since the day of plastic rolls it is much better! I am amused that it is still call tiling!
Good job guys , big iron putting in work. Thanks for the video
Thank you all for sharing !! Be careful and God bless everyone !!!! Eddy
Hey Rhonda, If you could, Give us an update on the tile job and wet spot at a later date. I did alot of tile work on our old farm and I don't see Kevin's point of veiw on it. Thanks for sharing your video.
An update will be in the next video. 😊
Yall always make my day better enjoy seeing what yall are doing on the farm
Great family!😇!😇!😇!😇!😇!😇!😇🙏
Hello Ronda 🎶👋 I enjoyed the video, as to the Eclipse, it is just another day for me, I guess you could say I live a boring uneventful life, but thankfully I am friends with you and your family to cheer me up and be more hopefull😊 me being 71 in June, I know I won’t get to see the next eclipse😢 but I will percervere until then I will always keep you in my thoughts😊
I live in the Rochester NY area, and we had total darkness from the eclipse, but we were totally cloud covered. But, it was still weird getting totally dark at 3:20 in the afternoon, and the birds were all roosting and quiet
The excavator sure is coming in handy, nice machine. Our eclipse was about 99% but not quite as good as 2017, but it was still fun to watch. Your camera did good at recording it, good job. Thanks for sharing, good luck on the rest of the drainage issue. I hope you have a good week.
Very interesting video😅
❤❤❤
Down here in Bowling Green Ohio we had total eclipse for about 3 minutes….was completely dark as though it was 9 pm.
Was surprised at how much sunlight still came through with just a sliver of the sun showing.
I think the guys are having too much fun with the excavator, myself! What a great buy that was!
I'm with you R. ?ish. The excavator seems nice and quiet for what it does.
Im with you on the tile/barrel idea. 😮
I wish I could have witnessed that eclipse but I live in Washington state, the worst place to be in mainland. Thanks for the video and the footage of the eclipse. ❤
we had a total eclipse up here in New Limerick Maine it was quiite an experience.
Great video ACRES OF CLAY FAMILY!!!
a remember the eclipse in finland in the 90s. it was so quiet in the nature all rhe birds was quiet and no wind.
I thought I understood the basics on tiling but now I don't. lol Rye looks awesome.
😂
They installed a drop box to carry away surface water more quickly.
Eclipse at 96% here (according to the news) and while it didn't seem noticeably darker, shadows definitely appeared faded. Watched most of the eclipse and was impressed that that small sliver of visible sun disk could supply enough light to seem almost normal. I did have to put on a sweat shirt, thought, since it was much colder and windy at the point of totality. Also of note was that all birds and animals acted normally except neighbors in the area who all seemed to be outside staring at the sun. . .
It cooled down here, too, but the wind came very calm for a while.
En Colombia (Sur América) no se percibió el eclipse, drenar terrenos es algo complicado! Saludo desde Bogotá 👍
Happy Sunday Always glad to get to see you glad to get a new video RUclips has been putting up 4321 year old one's 🍀🤠
You had an almost total solar eclipse. A few years ago it was maybe 70%. We also had a lunar eclipse.
You should cover this well with straw at the location of the drain holes to prevent soil from getting into it and clogging the drains.
THANKS!
Hi Ronda it`s a real nice sweater you have I can`t find in your shop.
Good vedio ❤👌
Hello there. Have you no gravel to put around the pipe. It would stop it from silting up inside the pipe.
What Kevin is getting at is the tile underground only takes subsurface water or water in the ground. The amount of water that comes in from across the road is more than the soil can absorb therefore it never makes it in the ground before it runs out into the field. The catch barrel will collect SURFACE water and give it a direct path to the tile underground and increase the speed at which the water runs through the field tile and out to the drain. I got what he was saying but he was trying to get it done and didn’t really explain it too well. Been there lol
We only had 75% coverage here in south central Nebraska it wasn't too noticeable lightwise but the temperature dropped for a while. Looks like you will be eating fresh fried chicken soon. Yum!
Thanks
The confusing part is calling a plastic drainpipe a tile. I have tile in the bathroom, and it isn't a plastic drain pipe. We got 94% eclipse at 3:29pm, but it was a crescent on the lower left not the upper right. Probably because we are in the north east.
My wife drove to van wert ohio where it was a total eclipse. She said it was amazing
I am on the east side of Michigan and we had an Eclipse here too! I could not look at it directly because I did not have a pair of those special glasses. So I simulated it and watched it that way. On the back of my house there is a floodlight (the simulated sun) that came on when it got dark. I stood about 10 feet back and slowly moved my fist (the simulated moon) between my eyes and the floodlight while looking at the floodlight. It lasted about 10 seconds and I was in The Path of Totality. Sorry I did not take any pictures. I will have to wait until 2045 to see it again and get a picture then. If I remember, I still live in the same house and the floodlight still works.
Enjoyed your video
Thank you!
Splish splash ;)
You likely saw more of the eclipse than we did in Calgary, Alberta. You were smart using the welding glass to look at the sun. The next eclipse will likely see me in Heaven. I was not outside so I do not know if the birds started chirping when it started getting dark. Some RUclips channels showed that. Thank you for your video(s).
On April 8 here in Sinclairville New York it was vary dark on outside like night time when the solar Eclipse here it was straight over us here
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Finding all kinds of work for the excavator.
You should have used drain rock on the pipe and catch basin!! Now, it’s going to silt-in, and become useless soon?!!!
RUclipsr "Dirt Perfect" do allot of tiling in the US.
That excavator will pay for itsell with the projects it will save time on!
Was there any reaction by the farm animals during the eclipse? We lost just enough sunlight to bring on the streetlights, and wake up the spring peepers to start singing. Have a blessed week, stay safe.
Our dusk to dawn lights turned on also.
You can't blame us boys for wanting to play in the mud,.....that is the way God created us. (tee-hee!!!) Besides getting eerily darker with the eclipse,.....it was weird to see security/parking lot lights come on for a little while, and then turn back off.
I think they’re making a catch basin
Ahha. Kevin just said it. Never mind
Ronda remember when the kids were young --------- " why , why , why , what's that , what does that do , why ,why , mom , mom , can I help " LOL
Rhonda you should be making mud pies
👋😊
Do you guys have a drone with a camera? It would be awesome to see your farm from above and to get those visuals?
How is the water going to get out of field
😯😯😲😲😲👌👌👌👍👍👍👍
As clear as mud Rhonda & tiles used to be clay pipe & don’t get the plastic pipe stuff either lol ???
Where does the drain tile discharge? I would assume at a nearby ditch or stream.
Yes, in a stream.
Oi 👏💪💪💪💪
Nice video. What model case excavator did you buy?
CX160
@@acresofclayhomestead nice thanks
We saw the eclipse its like a subdued light
12:00 I hear crickets in a brain...😅
got three inches of rain overnite.
it got dark enuff in Ohio that the street lights came on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It did not get real dark here. Just looked like dusk
Digging good Ole Michigan clay. Hence the title, Acres of Clay.
did the cows start glowing in the dark after the eclipse lol.
🤣
Hej Ronda nu ligger røre så vandet rand væk ❤❤❤
I don’t understand what the boys were saying about the water
I don't totally understand how drain tile works either.
hope the kids didnt start speaking martian and kevin talking martian lol. got my sweetcorn in friend does it every year check planter make sure it is working okay.first year notill sweetcorn in soybean ground.
Hope the sweetcorn grows beautifully!
Why not just dig out a pond ,put some edible fish in it and broaden your diet ,your cholesterol level will thank you ? I HAVE A STREAM LIKE THAT IN MY BASEMENT RIGHT NOW ,MY SUMP PUMP HAS BEEN RUNNING NON STOP FOR TWO WEEKS
For a not native English speaking person, this video was hard to understand. Better articulation and a bit more empathy for the viewer is appreciated. Best regards. .
