I am a representational oil painter working in a personal impressionist-tonalist style of light and dark; in fact without light art cannot exist! My goal is to capture the transformative effect light has as it falls in a scene. More than the obvious, I paint what I call the invisible nature or quality of light as the light impacts my subject; that thing, that element, that characteristic in my work that one feels at a gut level when viewed - it’s that “thing” we feel that is invisible and unexplainable yet connects us to a painting more than emotionally. Rather than rendering subjects literally, I use the classical techniques of my craft as an oil painter to interpret and express my vision of them. I have succeeded when the beauty in something that may seem ordinary, even overlooked, is found and expressed as a fine work of art that speaks to your soul as I chase the light! ~D.B.Elmquist
