I was Army military police (95B) 45 years ago if when you get into the Pan you find a stenciling NSN 1234 etc that would help validate the Pan as genuine military issue. Everything in the military had a NSN (National Stock Number) . Btw the 9 th infantry division military police in 1980 I saw Kawasaki bikes and some cool dune buggy attack vehicles but the MP’s weren’t blessed with them, the infantry units had the fun stuff. Thanks again another awesome video 😎!
I bought a 48 Pan in 1989. I was riding back to work at lunch time when I ran out of gas. A friend of mine saw me and stopped. He told me to pull up the petcock for reserve, something I didn't yet know. I was lucky he stopped or I would have been late getting back from lunch.
Back in the late 80's my old man was a Federal Game Warden and converted his FLHTC into his patrol unit. He painted his bike Army green, he'd been in the Army since 58, and he loved riding that bike in places 4 wheelers wouldn't go. He stripped and modified that bike to take on the elements. This bike reminds me of those days when he was living large...
"Bill is pretty handy with a six shooter, so I feel a sudden need to say really nice things about Bill and his bike" :) How cool to have the last PanHead and the first electric start Big Twin, all rolled up in a Police version of a military bike!
I have found that a new 1/4 inch fuel line seals pretty well on any decent barb fitting. Then I use the correct size flat spring type hose clamps which require the use of a set of pliers. It gives it a much more vintage look and clamps down evenly around the entire hose. From an auto mechanic, I learned that screw type clamps often leak because they only clamp around a portion of the hose. Either way...Nice work Mike! Looking forward to more videos on this classic machine! 😎
Actually. the pinch clamps made in two pieces wrap the complete circumference better than anything else I've ever used. Look in the McMaster Carr online catalog. I buy them in stainless steel.
Selling my old Harleys is something I’ll alway regret.I have a 48 pan and later a 45 UL.I was young then and sold them both.I still dream about them, but unless your a rich man you have to let things go to move onto the next cool thing.

So I just gotta' know for sure ??? (I have a few guesses ) > What is that heel pedal with cable on back side of left floorboard purpose / function ? Cable runs behind siren, but my guess would be either secondary clutch or rear brake "hill holder" ...??? Possibly a mechanical drive siren...???
That’s a mighty cool bike! I’m pretty sure that there’s no way that I would ever have a shot at buying this beauty, but if I had the opportunity, man oh man … that one would sure be a great one to get ahold of! I would love to have the opportunity to be the caretaker of such a magnificent machine as that … (drooling)
Hello from Sweden🇸🇪. That looks like one nice old Police Harley🤩. But it looks like it need some love👍. And you are the one to do it Mike👍. Look forward for next video. I hope Mike with the camera are ok after bumping in to the vice. Enjoy. Kjell Blomstrand.
Looks like an interesting Pan to play with. I have often heard that cops used Flatheads, but I have seen period videos of Pans being used, I think that L.A. used them. That is not why I am writing tonight though. You often specify 'white lithium grease' for certain applications, does it have some special properties for those applications that regular lithium grease doesn't have? As usual, an interesting video, thanks.
I've been redoing the 1980 flhs putting it back to stock as best I can... Venison brought over a 1994 Softail just blowing oil out of the top end.. not returning to the oil bag at all ... I figure a gear fell off in the oil pump or the breather timing is not right.. but I just don't know which adjustable easy in and out pushrods are economical yet work
Hi Mike it has been along time not seeing you. I’ve always loved your show. Hope to see you more often. Lemay Nelson. Vancouver Washington. Northwest. It’s good. To see someone like yourself. You always reminded me. Of the days at the doggy dinner. And all the bikes parked on the blvd. we used to ride an old Norton atless. Those were the days. Of Customization I now it’s a long word. But the nights were long to at that time. I met so many wonderful. And not so wonderful People. Memories are always good. Lemay Nelson.
Hi Mike glad to see a new video. I have a 1979 Lowrider FXS. It has 26,000 miles on it. I noticed there seems to be more extra play between shifts. Is there a way to adjust the play? I looked at the linkages and they seem to be ok.
It is a plague on the late (late 78 up) 4 speeds. The play goes all the way through the linkage and into the lid. A little play in a bunch of places. There's a bushing and arm you can buy that helps a little. Try V-Twin (Tedd Cycle) for parts and upgrades for it.
I would be happy to help out your friend by sending $8,500 to purchase his panhead. This would let you move on to other, more important projects. This bike is pretty old and I dont think it will draw any interest. As always, I do what I can. Vollrath
I have à 1999 heritage softail with an Evo motor. I recently had to replace the head gasket on rear cylinder. I lost the 2 5/16x18x21/2 bolts for the rocker box . The Allen head bolts that are on the rocker arm section. Can I use sleeved bolts that are the same size?
@pacificmike9501 ok that was the size that I found on line . I was just wondering if I could use the same size bolts even if they weren't the same style of bolt
As I thought you were right. They don't fit. The closest Harley shop is 2 hours from where I live. I live in rural Kentucky. Any ideas on where I can find the right size bolts so I can order them. Thank you. Your videos have helped me replace the head gaskets and rocker box gaskets. It's my own error that I have lost those two bolts. Thank you again and sorry to bother you with this. I know your busy and this is my fault but I don't know where to find the size .
Call the Harley Shop that's 2 hours away and say "Hey, could you guys send me the right bolts?" Use your manual to be sure you're identifying the right bolts with right name.
@pacificmike9501 yes sir thank you. I actually worked for a Harley dealership in Louisiana and I messaged a buddy who's a mechanic there and sent a picture of tha placement of the bolts and long story short they are on the way! So thank you for your time and input.

You press that heel pedal with your foot, engaging the shaft on the siren onto the rear tire. Yes, it is a mechanical drive siren.
Greate! Thank you Mike

Hi Mike, Biker Jim here from Beverly Massachusetts 😎👍
Hello there!
Beautiful bike. I have a '68, and so much of that bike is identical except the top end.
Yes, it is. And, they're beautiful in stock trim.

Use a good brand name. Andrews, Jim's, Feuling, they all make good stuff.
Do you have a wireless microphone now Mike?! Look at you Mr. Hi- Tech! 😂
That happened a couple years ago. There's hundreds of our videos since then. Go to our RUclips homepage and click on the word "videos."
👍😎💯❗
Thanks

Email our website, pacificmike.com
I just replaced the same fuel line on my 68FLH
Cool.
What a cool bike. Say, what was that heel pedal on the left side?
It engages the siren.

I'm interested when it comes up for sale 👍

Hello, What I have run into on hose clamps is that they tend to back off and if you have a cure for that let us know.
I install new ones when building and they don't give any problems. If they're old and run in and out a lot of times, replace them.
Thank, but whay not a gasfilter on the house.
I use expensive gas filters. He can add one.
No in-line fuel filter?
He'll probably add one later. The tanks are clean.

I don't think you have your sizes right. I think you are calling out metrics. When in doubt, buy the bolts from Harley.
@pacificmike9501 ok that was the size that I found on line . I was just wondering if I could use the same size bolts even if they weren't the same style of bolt

I understand. I had a 65. It was fun.

Huh?

On the shelf at the parts house.
I had a red and white 65 pan pretty original but sold it . The one I should have kept .
