Interesting tidbit, for the 2nd wounded marine, on the 2nd level of Halo, when you find the marines on the hill above one of the forerunner structures, the "dead sitting" pose is used by a rock. He has a sniper rifle sitting next to him.
Pretty sure Sitting_1 was used in a older version of a30 halo, were the sniper marine in the cliff would say a line and then die after that, which in final release he's already dead when you reach that section
Yes, he appears to use the same pose, and he is already dead when you reach him. He is also used on Pillar of Autumn. Interesting that you used the map’s name “a30” lol. I can’t remember which is which.
That explains why you see bucket loads of blood when you shoot the rocket into the engine core. I have noticed it only when you change to Classic graphics in the MCC version of Combat Evolved. Look closely and you will see blood emanating from the engine cares and walls around it. And it's really noticeable in classic graphics.
The invisible damage detect method is still used in Destiny 2 for a few raid encounters. Notably Deep Stone Crypt, which use Fallen NPCs hidden in a room outside of the map to detect crypt security damage and Atraks-1. Prior to patches, you could glitch out of the maps and kill the NPCs, easily clearing the encounters.
That second wounded marine was suppose to appear again in the second mission “Halo” where you get to the marines on the hill and he’s the one wounded on the big rock with the sniper at the side. There’s a cut dialog from him saying something like “take my sniper rifle sir, I had killed some but they got me” I can’t quite remember the line correctly.
The death pose of Sitting_2 looks very similar to one particular character seen on the second level, Halo. When rescuing Marines from three locations at the end of the level, there's a group who are hiding in some rocks above a forerunner structure, at the top of a hill. If you go up there, one marine says "You're a sight for sore eyes, Chief. We're in a bad way; we've got wounded here." Against a low rock right at the edge of the hillside is a dead body with a sniper rifle beside it. He's in the same position.
I think it’s the same animation, and originally that marine was meant to be alive and even had some dialogue as well. They cut a lot of really cool things from the game it’s kinda a shame lol
You are correct, I'm not certain what media it's mentioned in, although I think it's the Halo CE Developer Commentary. That or an Interview with a developer.
Judging by the name of the infection forms 'nopop" or something I think that those are the infection forms that are used in the Jenkins helmet cinematic cause those forms didn't attack Keys and co. just stand near them
If I remember correctly, you were originally meant to use the flamethrower on the proto-gravemind and remove Keyes' skull from its remains. The idea was scrapped when they cut the flamethrower, but Keyes' skull was repurposed as the Oddball. I assume the biped is a remnant from the original idea.
The wounded Marines in the pillar of autumn can be killed usually by the pistol Marines in the room where the marine in armor is like "captain keys is on the bridge follow me!" I've only seen it happen once where the standing marine was killed and had a neat death pose.
The mangled marine was probably going to be used in a cutscene or have a animated death scene based on that it's a bi-ped and the mangled elite is not.
The no pop version is used on the level two betrayals. The reason is because they are on an Elite corpse and they are supposed to jump at you from the body, but due to the loading zone and something else going on in the mechanics the original flood infection forms pop on loading, which can be loaded somehow (I think by saving a quitting or going back a checkpoint). However, they aren't perfect, and they just stand there glued to the level.

(Note: we don't normally SEE Keyes at that moment, as the camera is aimed at the Chief himself...as if Keyes, himself, was the camera.)
That’s because Bungie just never added them to any of the missions. They probably had time constraints and couldn’t figure out what they would do or how to use them.
