    I love how this chapter acts as a 'perfect balance' so to speak, when it comes to the Emblem Rings. It's you vs your opponents, each team having the same number of rings, they wield the ones you did know, now the game wants to see if you've learned how to utilise the ones you've gained. I love Engage so much and this map was the definitive aspect that got me, excuse the pun, engaged.

      1) Technically there would still be a balance the emblem rings, as the DLC emblems are attached to Bracelets.
      2) Disregarding the fact that you don’t have to buy the DLC, the new Emblems are 100% Skippable for the entire game, so long as you avoid the House Leaders Event Trigger.

      1) You missed the joke
      2) The video was about gameplay only and not about story so the balance is still way off because the reason the emblem rings are powerful is because you know *the emblems*, not the ring
      3) I am not saying you *Have* to use the DLC emblems, I am just saying it is an option and that it breaks the emersion a bit if you do and hence the joke.

      I know but the three houses emblem is so fucking cool. It's like they knew they did Leif an injustice so they gave you a better ring that much more units can leverage to completely supplant him.

    This is easily the most memorable chapter in the game. I think the most overlooked part of this chapter is how well it leads into C18. This map is intense, then 18 is a nice breather and you hear that Lythos theme again.

    Chapter 17 is probably the most overlooked chapter in the series! It has pretty much all the aspects of a perfect map, such as high quality enemy placements, bosses, and environments. In addition, it has an amazing soundtrack, which improves the overall tone, and atmosphere of the map! Kaga would be proud!

    I like this map, but I think it’s silly that going into the range of the 2nd Corrupted Wyrm aggros literally the entire map. I thought I was being smart coming around from the top left to get it out of the way before having to fight Marni and Mauvier, but instead my ironman was ended by all 5 bosses attacking me at once.

      Yeah the wyrm on the left being tethered to the north west side of the map is super scary if you approach there early. I kind of like it though as because the map has no reinforcements they needed something to put the pressure on you to not just pull enemy units one by one

    Another engage defender here. I had a great time with this map, but seemingly because it's engage we can't talk too nice about it.
    I really had sit down and think, and even when I was low on divine pulses (was that the name?) I didn't have to restart. I was doing triple backflips with the freeze staff to stop zethia that I haven't done before or after. This kind of versatility is what makes engage so fun, but they still manage to do it hard without resorting to bullshit (at least in hard classic, can't speak for the rest)

    Always happy to hear you gush about Fire Emblem Engage and delve into things that go way above my understanding of SRPGs.
    0:53 - It's a nice build up moment; your army of ring users finally in an equal competition against another army with not just one ring user, but brimming with ring users.
    1:27 - I think that makes for the more interesting map, not so much size but the options to approach it. The nice bit about your opponents using the rings, which you've already touched upon a little at this point of the video, is that it provides an opportunity to learn more ways to use the character specific rings that you might not have known.
    2:55 - A nice question of "how well balanced your team is?" It can in turn, based off the results of the map, demonstrate what areas you're lacking in.
    4:13 - A nice demonstration of it on screen as well. Set up a tempting line of characters to be attacked, thankfully ones that can tank her special, and then have her end up positioned near your battle ready units as a result.

    This map is EXTREMELY long, even in comparison to other Fire Emblem. It honestly takes so long that, for once, losing near the end really is a huge blow to you. Which makes the high stakes of this map, in the story, actually translate into gameplay. If you make a mistake now, you've only got so many "undo's" on you. So you have to burn a couple to learn what tools the enemy has, then do your best with the life you have left to solve it. And even on a replay of this map, on Maddening, I found myself finding new problems I didn't experience on the first go because I went up instead of left. I really do love this map.

    I agree, this map has a lot of fun qualities to it: Several ways to tackle it, multiple objectives, terrain for avoid tanking, healthy amount of enemy phasing, strong crowd control options, challenging player phases, a freaking boss rush, and when it's over you feel like you overcame a real challenge and iirc you get another engage ring for completing this map.
    Not much to dislike about this map imo

    This map pretty much asks this question: do you know how to build units?
    If yes, you are going to absolutely meme on everything this chapter throws at you, the enemies will be in just the right position for a sweet draconic hex + seadall + byleth + seadall2 combo and become absolute fodder to your strongest units. If not Corrin, Great Aether with a Silver Smash weapon can also do the job
    If you don't... Well you're not going to have fun on this one

    Engage is full of incredible maps. Even early maps, such as 4 and 5 rank among the best in the series. 17 is definitely a contender for one of the best. And unlike the earlier maps, you've had time to build up a party of your own design. The earlier maps the developers can rely on you having very specific tools to work with, so they can design the map with those tools in mind to create a highly refined experience. 17 they need to design the map for a more flexible party composition, which is much more challenging. But they do a fantastic job regardless.
    Personally, I never go for Griss first. I think that's the cautious approach, and prevents you from getting flanked once he catches up.
    The issue though is that Griss is the only thing in that direction, so taking him on first is effectively backtracking. I advance west, and Griss will eventually catch up. It's definitely a bit risky though, as if he catches up when your party is on it's back foot (usually in the SE corner against Mauvier and a corrupted Wyrm) this can spell trouble.
    I also like the option of using Corrin's Dragon Vein to extinguish the flames up north on the path to Marni, and go straight for the corrupted Wyrm in the center of the map. The problem is, in my experience, this is just a bad idea, and generally gets me killed, since you now have to deal with a Corrupted Wyrm, Mauvier from the West, Griss teleporting in, and Marni from the Southwest. Which is a real shame, as I think having the ability to take this approach is really cool. This may be more viable in Hard mode rather than Maddening. Although I'm not convinced it's actually more efficient. I just think it's existence is neat.

    I dunno, this map just isn't very interesting to me. Basically all the enemies just sit there until you go into their range, and at least how I usually play it, there's often a lot of just walking from one area to another with nothing really happening (I usually go up to take out Griss's group first, which doesn't aggro the rest of the map at all so I just have to walk all the way around to Marnie's group, which then also doesn't aggro the upper enemies.) I also don't think the map is particularly difficult at all (even on maddening without dlc) because it's very easy to bait and switch a lot of the map, and then abusing corrin to freeze and draconic hex the bosses makes them basically not a threat at all.

    • @Speedwinghere
      @Speedwinghere  7 месяцев назад

      I mean most of the enemy packs are on leashes so they do move in groups, for example the second wyrm on the left aggros the entire left hand side of the map. But yeah if you know the game mechanics well enough you can clear the map easily but in my opinion that is still good design, you are using the tools the games give you to succeed

    • @pandabanaan9208
      @pandabanaan9208 7 месяцев назад +2

      I think that's kind off nescessary for the map to work, the skirmishes show just how unbalanced it can be when enemies all agro at you at once, for me it usually results in a bit of down time between the bosses wich I don't mind because in that time I can start positioning people for my next strategy

    The presence of the Draconic Time Crystal basically invalidates any challenge this map would normally have. You can rewind time like 8 times and if you still can't get it done with those 8 additional times then perhaps strategy games aren't for you. It's a good map regardless of the Draconic Time Crystal but it does make it relatively easy if you've been grinding xp on your units. It's simply a matter of trial-and-error. The soundtrack for this map is absolutely fire ngl, easily the best in the game.

    • @Speedwinghere
      @Speedwinghere  7 месяцев назад +3

      True but you could say that about any game with a rewind feature, I guess it comes down to if you use that sort of thing or not. I personally play mostly ironman style, hardest difficulty without any skirmishes or DLC so it keeps a pretty solid difficulty.

      Time Crystal is useful for casuals and hardcore players. LTC sometimes uses it for rng manipulation, and for casual play it is a big convenience for when you misclick a unit or just for on the fly experimentation.
      Time crystal mechanics are entirely a positive for this series, there is no fun to be had with inconvenience.

    • @pandabanaan9208
      @pandabanaan9208 7 месяцев назад +1

      Well grinding invalidates any game that has it and to me that's kinda on you, especially in engage were skirmishes are often harder then the main missions so you really have to put in the effort to overlevel yourself, the time crystal has sorta changed fire emblem from going with your mistakes to trying to get the perfect run, that's sorta the challenge the time crystal ads since now that you don't have to reset the entire map going for an everyone survives run becomes more viable, I also think that if you know what you're doing you can cheese basically any strategy game, there's typically one strategy that once you know about it can turn the game into a joke and at that point it fall on you if you want to continue playing by the game's rules or not, or well at least for fire emblem that is the case

    • @rustcopperfield9175
      @rustcopperfield9175 7 месяцев назад

      @@personontheinternet2164 I disagree, you should be punished for making a mistake, either making you reset or costing you valuable units in the case of an ironman run. Time Crystal makes the game less fun as it's an inconvenience NOT to use it. I'd rather it not be an option alltogether. It may turn off the more casual players but I prefer it this way.
