I have a copy of a computer magazine issue from 1983 that has a review of this game. The final sentence says, "It's hard to imagine any more spinoffs from these characters."
I wanna see their faces now.

Too late there already has been too many to count.
This is back when they were actually plumbers. They have come a LONG way.
Dude they are still plumbers
I thought they were still carpenters
@@firestriker3580 But when was the last time they did any plumbing?
I guess the in universe reason why they aren't plumbers anymore is so they can keep a better eye on Toadstoop (it also helps that they are now in a country where money is floating everywhere so they don't need to go back to taking any job they can)
They went from plumbers to traveling to Galaxy and kingdoms, now they entered a wonderful world. How far has time come sure isn’t it.
That walking sound effect..... My ears.....
New York is a loud place, you know.

Sounds like they’re waddling in diarrhea

Same.
That's the actual arcade version of the '85 Super Mario Bros. game you're thinking of. Yeah, that actually exists.

How the hell did it only take Miyamoto two years to completely transform the concept of Mario from a simple plumber to a mushroom-addict-goomba-stomper that can throw fireballs after touching a flower?

Someone saw how popular Mario Bros was doing in the arcade and got the approval to add Mario (and Luigi) to the 2d action platformer they were making
I'm amazed many Mario fans did not know this game even existed. What's up with that?
I'm amazed most people didn't know that this game actually takes place in the sewers in New York, which Brooklyn takes place as well. They thought the Super Mario Bros. Super Show made that up. I'm amazed "Mario fans" actually believe that Jumpman is Mario's father, when really, Mario and Jumpman are clearly the same person.
DW_Nox yeah I could not find any ROM hacks of this game it sucks.
Yeah thats just some game theory garb. Still an interesting over analysis though lol
Peter Ransford True. At least you don't take that theory as if it's a fact :) Trust me, there's lot of people who actually believe that "theory" as if Nintendo confirmed it. When actually, we both know that's not true :)
PLUS..... ITS ALL PRETEND :O though I wish I lived in Hyrule sometimes... often, actually lol
Chris prat brought me here talking but stomping koopas
LOL me too
2 player of this game in the arcade was my first deathmatch experience. lol
+TheToekutter same here
After rescuing the damsel in distress, Pauline, from Donkey Kong, Mario leaves his carpentry job and starts a plumbing business with his brother Luigi. The Mario Bros. were soon called in from witnesses to investigate the sewers of New York after strange creatures have been appearing down there. Little did they knew, they were in for huge surprise that would change their lives forever.
I’ve also always viewed Super Mario Bros as a sequel to this game. In my imagination, Mario and Luigi are middle-aged Italian-Americans from Brooklyn (a detail that was and always has been explicitly confirmed canon about this game, not just an invention of the dic cartoons or the 1993 film). I imagine them as being jack-of-all-trades workmen who have been earning their living for the last 15 years or more of their lives doing different ventures or odd jobs at different periods (hence Mario’s time doing carpentry) and have gone into plumbing before the events of this game. They discover the koopas in the sewers in this game, and then warp through the pipes into the world of the mushroom kingdom offscreen in between this game and SMB.
I’m honestly annoyed that they’ve retconned it into Mario and Luigi being from the “mushroom world” all along and never having been from Earth (as well as somehow being in their 20’s instead of being middle-aged). You could compare it to Miyamoto’s retcon about the koopalings “not being bowser’s kids.” The thing is, I honestly theorize that Miyamoto was just trolling about the Koopalings (like how he answered “me” when asked whom bowser jr’s mother was in a later interview). On the other hand, the retconning of the Mario bros’ origins seems to be a genuinely concerted effort, dating back arguably to Super Mario World in 1990.
This was before the Mario Bros became super. No giant inducing mushrooms. No invincible stars. No flowers that make you throw fire.
But there were koopas, warp pipes and POW blocks
Under Water your only help were the pow blocks.
Mario started on Donkey Kong first.
Before Mario did drugs...
i like the part where the turtle gets out of his shell in his underware to flip his shell back up
This is my fav. game of all time back when I was a kid....
Back when Mario lived in New York.

This was the first Mario I played in the arcade back in I think '83. As I was watching this I was trying to remember the correct gameplay from back then - I vaguely remember you had to time your run up one side and trap all the turtles on the middle platform and when they went to put back on their shells you had to hit the POW or something like that and then clear them all off and up to the top to clear the level and get max points Does anyone remember? Then Super Mario Bros came out and after a while I could clear it all on one man with max points and again the gameplay now is a distant memory, I do remember there was some timng thing to get max point on the flagpole at the end of each level. Wow...that was a long time ago.
I'm just here for the Koopa stomping that never happened

The first Luigi game
So fun to see how the mario ideas that would eventually form would come from a grounded concept of plumbers, sewers, pipes and turtles before the acid trip.
This is what Luigi’s very first appearance in Mario bros
Theres another game called Mario Bros. for the Game & Watch

Can somebody please explain why this game is completely forgotten by so many people?
I used to play a version of this on the computer as a kid in the 2000s lol now I have it on my switch
Its overshadowed by 1985 super mario bros
Mario Bros. was fairly successful in the arcade. When Super Mario Bros. was released for the Nintendo home system, it brought the Mario game to a brand new level of success. Especially, since Super Mario could reach more people through the home system, instead of going to the arcade.

This game was my first introduction to Mario. Its an obscure game that not many people remember. I had this game on a floppy disk for my Commodore 64 but it was also available on the Atari 2600 believe it or not. The Commodore was such a great computer back in the 80s. Then came DK which at the time I believe Mario appearing in that game was just a crossover. When Super Mario Bros came out for the first time on NES this game went into the shadows of obscurity and has been ever since. If you play long enough this game eventually the platforms go invisible. Again truly a classic!
I spent ages playing this as a kid with my friend.
Mario first ever appeared in donkey kong original 1981,
mario appeared again in donkey kong junior in 1982,
then finally they made the mario bros game in 1983 which doesnt get much recognition.
It was remastered into super mario bros, which had more simpiler and more easy controls.

This game used to be so hard as a kid.
As to release dates: also released in Japan on the Famicom on September 9, 1983.
For the SNES: Super Mario All-Stars was released in North America sometime in August 1993. The Mario Bros. mini-game was included within Super Mario Bros. 3 (released in Japan in October 1988 and in North America in February 1990).
This game brings back memories i used to play these game in 2014 with my father console with my brother
Neat. I've often wondered what this game was like. So it's basically like the "mini-games" or what I call "the duel challenge" in super mario 3.
Patrick King - Basically, but at least a half decade older than Mario 3.
30 yrs since cant believe it and its been 15 yrs since I probably last play this game.

I always love when mario says ''Mario!'' I wasent born in 1983 but I find this outstanding❤
I'm going on a journey to watch a full playthrough over every game that Mario or Luigi has been featured in. Wish me luck.
i like the part where the turtle gets out of his shell in his underware to flip his shell back up. wished that was added in the nez version

It's been almost 4 decades since Mario was made
Did the Underground Theme that was played in the GBA remake exist yet when the original Mario Bros was released in 1983?

Estaba buscando como jugar ese videojuego, por que no lo entendia.
Pero gracias a este gameplay, ya entendí y es muy adictivo

The most underrated mario game
Why does this look better than super mario bros even though this game was released in 1983 and super mario was relased in 1985
This is such an old one
I played this game Since I Still Have My Gameboy...
OUCH, MY EARS
I was waiting for them to use the POW button. They should have.
Happ forty year anniversary Mario Bros
wow I wasn't even born yet, this looks really old but I still like it!
The graphics look better then the Mario Bros. 1 for NES!
The arcade was a more powerful machine than the NES/Famicom.
No jumping on pests!
1983. The year when this game was introduced and also the game that featured Luigi’s first appearance!
1983 was the year the Super Mario Bros appeared together, but it wasn't the first game to feature Mario. He first appeared in the 1981 Donkey Kong arcade game.
@@TheKnob16 Hence why he only said “Luigi’s first appearance” and did not say “Mario’s first appearance.”
And then Mario evolved into a more complex scrolling platform game and this evolved into Ice Climber. Nice!!
Why dont they have this at arcades anymore?
Probably because Nintendo would demand too much money.
I played the remake on Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, it was great
can i use one sec of the gameplay in my intro
How many levels or phases are in this game? Im trying to pass on my mini. Cant find info.
It repeats at phase 99
So there are infinite phases u cant beat the game
Epic, i play this in emulator only have 3 phases 😔😔
Oh yeah I played this on my Gameboy advanced morning on super Mario bros 3 arcade
Who approved that horrendous walking sound effect?
Idk why but i can’t feel any nostalgia in this game😂
That's a shame.
Where do I find this game? FOR EMULATOR MAME
It will be nice if Nintendo released Donkey Kong 1, 2 & 3, Mario Bros 1983, Mario 1, 2 & 3, etc., all on one product for Smartphone Apps and TV joystick button like other classic games are.
Imagine telling kids back then that there would be a movie about this?
