Like are people so quick to defend this show that it prevents them from even listening to ANY form of criticism, even from someone who loves the brand as much as me? Please watch the entire video. even though things like forced plot convenience and no stakes are good criticisms, some of us probably feel like a slower pace with more depth at the beginning may hurt the story, and prefer they add more depth to the story later on. personally, i think it would be cool if granola's plot convenience with the dragon balls turned out to be someone's manipulation

Frieza: he simply trained but nonetheless he tried, he kinda had to get his pride power since earlier he would have thought only less superior beings would need training so hey there's that
Hit: he just made his primary technique better and added some more once... That failed against jiren but still. Kinda simply... So simply it's kinda funny he nor anybody else with good techniques did it
Moro: used his magic ability to try to get stronger from the 2 strongest of the universe and planets, only reason he was strong was because of him sucking ki energy and etc, its still kinda unique atleast in my opinion, I'll be it kinda lame how at the end raw strength did beat it that being ultra instinct.
Granola: used different kind of dragon balls to get stronger fully realising hell only have 3 years to life, and since then 6 months have passed.
He definitely did another way of getting stronger, not getting some technique or just training or have some broken god ability or something. @@kamwaty ...did you literally forget all about the Goku Black arc??? Zamasu used the Dragon Balls to wish:
      A. To become immortal, and
      B. To take over Goku's body, giving Zamasu an instant power-up.
And if we're talking about the Dragon Ball series as a whole, King Piccolo wished to revert to his younger, stronger body years before the villains you listed were even thought up. Plus, both the Dead Zone movie and the Lord Slug movie revolve around the main villain using the Dragon Balls to become stronger. And that's the thing: those are pretty much the only three options for wishing to become stronger. Either wish to revert to a stronger version of yourself, wish to become stronger in general, or wish to take over a stronger person's body. They haven't JUST done it before; they've literally explored all of the options already for wishing to become stronger. The only difference here is that Granolah had to accept a drawback, and we haven't even seen WHY this drawback is important yet or HOW it's used in the narrative, so we can't even know whether it's an interesting change yet. Now, moving onto your list... There's one obvious, glaring flaw: when I talk about "trying to become stronger", I obviously mean that I want them to SHOW that the villain becomes stronger. If they don't show you HOW the villain tried to become stronger, then it's essentially the same thing as an effortless power-up, just like wishing to become stronger. That's why so many people hated how Frieza attained his Golden form. Even if he did "try" to become stronger, they don't even show him trying, so it's like he effortlessly attained the transformation. Comparing Granolah wishing to become stronger "on camera" to training that we didn't even see isn't a fair comparison. When we say we want a villain to have to try to become stronger, we mean that we would have rather had the past few manga chapters SHOW him trying to get stronger, not JUST say that he tried to become stronger. That's why I used the example of Cell. If they're going to SHOW the villain getting stronger, then they might as well show them TRYING to get stronger.

@@aaronthecreator6988 The only thing baseless is your comment. The overall story structure of a monthly shounen manga and a weekly television series with usually 30 minutes to an hour is not an accurate comparison. Television is not only a different form of visual media but also a faster form of media thus more of the story can be revealed along with character arcs and motivations in a shorter amount of time. A monthly manga on the other hand does not have that same ability, even a weekly manga is still limited by its page number which will always be shorter then a tv slot. Geekdom in this video as well as you are literally trying to create a problem when that “problem” hasn’t shown up yet. It’s too early for this take. I think you misunderstand Granolahs character. He is positioned to be the "baby face" of the arc, as you said, because he is a victim of Frieza planetary expansion of worlds. We are supposed to feel bad for Granolah, but as other youtubers have pointed out. Granolah is also impatient and naive. He doesn't realize the crimes the Heatas have committed to others. He doesn't realize that he is being used by the Heatas to get rid of the Earth's Saiyans. It's possible the Heatas will meet up with Frieza as allies.
Also consider that the wish was not a bad wish because it worked for Granolah, he is a Cerealiean who have long lifespans, so if you condense that lifespan for power, it's not impossible to consider that Granolah has a mortal power level that exceeds Goku and Vegeta.
Also like the Cerealiean Namek said, you can be the Strongest for today but what about tomorrow?
It's actually tragic, he gave his remaining life for power that will likely be surpasssed by Goku or who knows even Frieza.
Imagine how tragic that would be, and that is probably the fate of Granolah.

    • @jantheking7028
      @jantheking7028 3 года назад +17

Agreed, especially on your point about the wish. Geekdom said that the wish to become stronger creates problems for future arcs, but I disagree with that claim. The only reason granola was able to make that wish is because his species has an abnormally high lifespan as the heeters pointed out, so other characters like Yamcha or Krillin would ever be able to make that wish because their lifespans are short. Even goku and vegeta wouldn't be able to make the wish.

The memories of the Saiyans fucking his shit up is better backdrop than most villains. Frieza hates the Saiyans cause they beat him. Cell hated everyone just because. Buu just wanted to be free of control and was evil immemorial. Zamasu hates mortals cause their not Godly. Jiren didn't hate Saiyans. Moro was the same as Buu. My point is for once a villain has a good reason to want revenge.
Power creep isn't a problem for me because the Z-Fighters gave up. Gohan wanted to be a Dad/Scientist. Future Trunks found love from a woman from his timeline. Piccolo is still strong and now there's more potential for him being impactful because of Namekian lore. Vegeta is right there. Krillin started a family. Only Yamcha and Tienshinhan have legitamate gripes but they were written out since Dragon Ball really.

He was such an interesting concept of a character because he opened up the door to seeing what else is out there in U7. That was and is INTERESTING! Seeing his home and how his life is was INTERESTING! I honestly was coming to truly like him thus far based on the direction he was headed. Watching him struggle and maybe fail a couple times over would’ve been great as a build up to when he learned of The Dragon Balls then perhaps went on a brief search for The DBs so he could then become the strongest. The fact the granolah found the dragon balls so easy and became the strongest from a wish. It’s just lazy writing honestly, no effort

  • @jd55513
    @jd55513 3 года назад +3

As for your concerns about the wish, read this analysis.
The problem with combining wishes of that magnitude, is that the Dragons have different levels of power, based on the following known facts and evidence:
The strength of the Dragon Clan Guardian, the size of the balls, and the amount of them to collect.
What all Dragons have in common, is a shared nexus of knowledge concerning events in the DB Universe.
A wish of Immortality likely cannot be granted by the small dragons. It can only be granted by Super Shenron.
Another issue is the context and specific way you ask of immortality.
By that I mean, there are different kinds of immortality such as the case with Zamasu.
You can have a immortal and undying body, or you can have a immortal spirit.
Zamasu wished for a immortal and undying body, but his soul was not Immortal.
Also consider that the fusion with Black did not preserve the body immortality since his fused body was half immortal.
    Going back to my point.
If a Dragon were to grant Immortality following a person's power being condensed and multiplied by the length of their age, such as the case with Granola,
You have to remember that their were conditions to the wish. If this wish was made to Super Shenron, well Super Shenron would give Granola the Immortality, but the effects of the previous wish with Toronbo would be nullified since Super Shenron is more powerful than Toronbo, and the condition was based on the length of ones life.
There is evidence of what I mean, in GT. Ultimate Shenron(Red Dragon) was asked by Pilaf to wish GT Goku into a kid again, this wish was fufilled, however Because GT Goku is so powerful in GT especially after SSJ4, he actually breaks the wish by going into Adult form to handle the power of SSJ4.
    See the problem?
The logic of Toronbos wish would not be consistent anymore.

I hope they bring back the emotion value to the series. I hope when granola see’s goku he realizes that it was Bardocks team that destroyed his people, creating value from an emotional perspective. Beerus also said something about Vegeta having to destroy his memories (which I equate to his pride), so it’d be great to see an internal battle with vegeta where his pride is manifested in the form of his father, so he couldn’t truly unlock destruction power until he destroyed the expectations he’s had of himself, because of his father.

@@mechajay3358 I disagree in the sense of judging the entire arc the reason why is with classic dragon ball its weekly release schedule meant with chapters being shorter the story was structured so that every 14 pages ended with a cliff hanger. When you have a monthly release if a chapter is uneventful/boring/ or something bothers you about it then you have an entire month until the next release to be bothered by it. Whereas with weekly the weaker chapters wouldn’t hang around long in the zeitgeist of the fandom. This is why I probably from here on out will wait until the arc is near completion so I can put those potentially isolated instance chapters aside and enjoy the arc on its own merits for what it was & the story it is trying to get across & to also Judge the story arc as a whole not based off early or few/ specific chapters.

sorry geekdom cant get behind this one. its cool that you have your own opinion and i respect and i dont want to attack you or nothing but i just got to say i disagree with almost every point you make here.
so far granolah to me has been the most interesting villain weve got in YEARS for dragonball. he really is like the protagonist of this arc, unlike moro or jiren or goku black who have just kind of been obstacles. im enjoying getting to know who granolah is as a character, what his motivations are, who the supporting characters in his life are. granolah really feels like a person to me, instead of some smug anime villain that just exists to smirk and wag his finger at goku and vegeta and say “nuh uh uh you boys have to get through me before you get the next power up.”
granolah getting the dragonballs and making his wish is the inciting incident of the arc. without that there wouldnt be a story, the story is literally “some guy suddenly finds himself being the strongest and wants to get revenge.” i agree the way the dragonballs have been implemented here might be a little lazy and i can see how that could be unsatisfying for you but i think there is so much interest with granolah and what his relationship with the old namek guy is and how the cerialans are going to get involved. so much is being set up here and i cant wait to see how it plays out. maybe things will be disappointing and go downhill from here but this all just feels so new for dragonball and this just feels like a breath of fresh air to me.
i agree that maybe granolah could just find another pair of dragonballs and wish for immortality but i think that that can be easily hand waved as “its too late to wish for immortality your body is going to just fall apart after 3 years no matter what” or the three year death thing is hard coded into the wish and getting immortality undoes the previous wish and he would no longer be the strongest or something. i think its so interesting to have this character who is willing to sacrifice so much to achieve his goals and im really excited to see where this story takes him.
as for goku being too much stronger than anyone else i dont really care too much about that lol thats kind of how its always been aside from that little bit in the cell arc when trunks and vegeta were stronger than him. the gap between goku and his friends has always been huge, the rest of the gang have always just had to take down the jobber guys and goku has always just had to take down the next rival and maybe they become friends later. i can agree that the way goku learned to command ultra instinct at will has been a little unsatisfying but i like how he is training to master higher versions of the form. i dont want goku to just be done now that he has ultra instinct.

Dragon Ball Super is too predictable. In DBZ the stakes were high because it wasn't only Goku doing the heavyweight lifting. Now, he's shoved in the story at every possible moment, to the point where it gets stale and repetitive. DBZ mixed up the power scale all the time until the fight with Kid Buu. Imo, that's where the problem began.
