- The original village was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, at which time it was located along the River Derwent, where the buildings were visible from Chatsworth House. This view displeased the 6th Duke of Devonshire, William Cavendish, however, and between 1838 and 1842 he had the entire village dismantled. Many of the residents were moved to the nearby Chatsworth villages of Beeley and Pilsley, and the planning and building of a new village, over the brow of a hill and out of sight of Chatsworth House, was managed by the famed architect Sir Joseph Paxton.

Thank you for this. I hiked to Chatsworth from Bakewell in the late 90's and coming over the hill and seeing the village was a life changing moment for me.

Nic thank you very much!
Looks beautiful
Fascinating
Great, thank you
I'm a little confused because the 'description' below the video contradicts what the lady was saying on video about who and when it was demolished. She says it was the 4th duke in the 1750's but the description states it was the 6th who demolished and rebuilt between 1838 and 1842.
thanks for this video.. very good.
Your accent is lovely

Who really knows the truth of who actually designed and built Chatsworth House. No way was it built by these so called 'Dukes' and by labourers with horses and carts. Simply not possible. Just the incredible architecture, design and layout was the work of some very high level civilisation like many buildings around the world. The official stories for all these buildings is laughable. Eden-sor...what does that tell you? Changing the way it is pronounced doesn't hide it's true meaning. Something happened around 1666 and from there HIS Story started.
