To the average music listener, the more modern trap beats and less processed vocals on The Fool would be more accessible to someone who just listens to mainstream trap. Eversince is kind of like the opposite of that. It’s good that you don’t see what’s so weird about it, cause I think you guys would love Gluee and his really early stuff from the rainworld era. That being said, do 333 next and then listen to Red Light.
Yeah I also think it was harder to get into Bladee back in the day, started listening when Red Light came out and it took a couple tries to get into his (as traditionally seen) bad vocals and processing of them. I think the perfect tapes to get into the sound would be Icedancer, WOD, The Fool and now Cold Visions
Rare Exeter fan here, the reason we call Eversince a hard start is the mixture of the underproduction, the more unrefined auto tune, and possibly a bit of the juvenile depressive tones (It's often referred to as Incel bladee era, though I know a large amount of people heavily related to the "too far gone" feeling at some point, self included and have hopefully gotten to a better place since). His voice is more jarring here and the auto tune lingers and wobbles harder here than other albums to new listeners, but is common in his early stuff. Accessible, maybe to a gecs fan, which explains a lot about your unique experience. Hyperpop vocals aren't everyone's cup of tea. It's a very coming-of-age kinda sadness depicted, there's a sense of hopelessness. He is a waste, but not yet a Waster, there's no embrace, he's lashing out still. The feelings are real and what captivated many; not to invalidate it, but it's definitely slightly more immature than some of his newer projects where he can see the sadness is only but one part of life as a greater whole sum. It's more down tempo and chilled out in the sense that it's like self-isolation in your room. It's more cold feeling than cold visions, partly because of the sharp, clear, and raw production, the closed-in feel, and of course "summers over" lyrics which is why most fans consider it the winter album. It's about heartbreak and loneliness and self destruction while feeling lost and without purpose, in a bit of a drugged, alone, starving kinda way. I personally prefer his more ethereal projects but seeing his actual healing process/journey, and the sort of relapse in cold visions is what really appeals. If you get a chance on your own time you should watch the yung lean doc and look into the bladee struck by lightning lore (which is reasonably thought to be a cover up for some sort of overdose in Thailand where the drug laws are so strict it would mean a death sentence [at least in the past]), his transformation from that event is captivating and brought on the most of his divine enlightened, spiritual, whimsical, and otherworldly faith-charged albums that almost conceptualize himself as a modern day mystic (he studies in his personal time Swedish mystics and the occult, with heavy references to tarot and a combining of various different religious beliefs). The appeal to bladee is that he really is just a normal guy, who I would consider was probably culturally isolated in a geographical sense, naïve but yet also innocent to the culture/trends/common tropes of western rap, who got caught up and spit out by addiction and the underground life, while never trying to make something that wasn't true to himself, making things for him and his friends and not what he thought people wanted to hear. Try out ecco2k's solo projects for his unique experience with identity issues and struggling with being a person of colour in a place occupied by people predominantly with white skin and blue eyes. Bladee can be as simple as you want ("I'm king nothing/I'm nothing/I am not anyone, I'm just some air inside the air" and you're not supposed to theory craft or overthink the lyrics in some parasocial fan cringe way [irony].... or you can choose to give the empty words meaning and apply them to the life you wanna live. Self-aware contradictory statements is also a part of it, for both saying materialistic things are trash, the world outside of (you) is trash, and then also finding bittersweet comfort in having things, designer clothing, cars, jewellery, drugs or life itself. It's a total reflection of the world around us through the lense of his own "hero's journey". There's been a fall, and a come back, but will there be another fall?
