Dorothy sang, the munchkins sang, the scarecrow sang, the tin man sang, the lion sang, the emerald city crew sang. The original Wizard of Oz was a musical.
@@KrazyIndeed I'm sure everyone who watched the original already arrived at the conclusion that it was a musical. That's pretty much the reason I won't be watching this one. The original is part of the reason I concluded in childhood that I don't like musicals.
Correct, but everyone knows it from the film. Wicked was a Broadway show originally. Stage musicals are way, way more campy than movie musicals. That’s not bad necessarily (Hedwig and the Angry Inch kinda has to be campy), but yes the movie had songs and was a musical, but Wicked is a musical musical, per theatre kid definition They are not the same
the only two kinda musicals i ever watched was camp rock and school of rock. edit: i did like the step up franchise what is exception in my eyes. does American Pie Presents: Band Camp counts?
@@isaacribeiro6823 School of Rock was not a musical. It was a movie where music was a prominent subject of the story. A musical is where the story, or at least major portions of it are told by the music. It's like calling Mr Holland's Opus a musical.
Fun fact: the name Elphaba comes from the initials of the author of the Wizard of Oz, L. Frank Baum (LFB = el pha ba) Also the Wizard of Oz is an allegory for sound money policy. The emerald city is green fiat currency, the yellow brick road is gold. The ruby Slippers were silver shoes in the book (and in Wicked) In the book the emerald city wasn’t green; it was just a regular city. But everyone had green spectacles locked on their head by law, so everything looked green. Dorothy could return home by using silver and gold to deny the illusory green false paradise. I doubt the writers of Wicked were into Austrian School economics a la Ludwig von Mises, but they put the silver shoes in and named one of the leads after the OG author. They knew the underlying theme 😊
The little tanttum Cynthia threw about a fan changing what the poster looked like was a diva moment, but the fan was right, as it looked like the original art, but with her, instead.
I enjoyed it. I too saw the stage play. The movie was a good adaptation. Blu , If you liked the stage play you will probably like the movie. Go see it. I’m going for a second showing.
I already watched the movie, and I agree with this review, although I was going with different expectations about Ariana Grande. I knew she was a child actor, so I assumed acting was going to be good, singing wise everybody knows Ariana can sing really good, but I was expecting that after a rigorous casting process for Elphaba, I was assuming the dance numbers were going to outshine Ariana, but Ariana's precision and energy in the dance number really impressed me. For people who like musicals, the early parts might feel (or at least that's how I felt it) like an unnecessary long intro for characters we already knew, but once they get to the plot it is very enjoyable.
I kind of like Ariana Grande. I don't think I heard anything bad about her or that she preached any bad out of touch politics to her fans unlike her peers (looking at you Taylor Swift or Rachel Zegler). I am very glad for it, unless I am wrong. I never seen this movie but from the clips I have seen, I like how she dances.
I'm not big into musicals. I like "The Greatest Showman" and my favorite is the "Once More with Feeling" Buffy episode. Other than those two things i have seen a point to many of them.
Can someone explain to me what is it with the "Tatiana" sexual comment during this video? It is not the time that I hear it, but I didn't find any reference as to where it comes from. @7:38
The film is good. It is a nice adaptation of the original Broadway production. Everyone in the cast did a good job. I have learned to ignore comments made by actors in the real world.
You must be swift as the coursing river. With all the force of a great typhoon. With all the strength of a raging fire. Mysterious as the dark side of the moon.
I don't like musicals. Then I remember the Blues Brothers is a musical. (Sh!t) Okay, so there's one musical I'll watch. Aladdin where the late, great Robin Williams was the genie? Okay, but that's animation. Animations don't count.
I’m a big fan of the play and this film blew me away. The cast acting so weird in the press tour, social media and putting people off is tragic because there’s not even any agenda pushing in the movie, just a great cinematic adaptation of the play.
The cast are just typical social media users. Trying to claim victimhood over something or other to get "Epoints" within their circles. It's wierd but I have seen it too many times now to not recognize it. They had good advisors here though, I heard about the "Erasing me" stuff from the green witch and that was it. They must have been told to pipe down and let the movie just succeed. Compared to some other casts out there it was mild. And the fact the movie was actually good goes a long way.
Ariana acts like she usually acts, she has the ditsy pretty girl act in the bag since the nickolodian days. She was after all an actress before a singer.
I've always had a thing for Oz, Wonderland, Narnia, and all that, but a musical... I wasn't entirely sure I'd bother. I am a bit more interested, knowing Goldblum is in it, though.
They are 'pretty close' because they want attention. That 'finger-petting' wasn't by accident. The only role actors have is to be good pretenders. Nothing comes more natural to them than to lie (perhaps except perhaps pdfs) +++genuine question: would the word 'perhaps' be correct if i only used it before 'except'?
There's a vast difference between acting and pretending/lying. Unless you're prepared to call Jean Claude van Damme, Chuck Norris, Steven Segal & others liars or pretenders to their faces.
But my dear Blu hear me here Snow White live action it's going to be bad, no matter what The only good out of that movie is Gal Gadot but that alone won't save that movie.
The acting was not bad, but I personally was not impressed by the writing or music, but then again I never so the original. The movie is too long and even after giving u p and fast forwarding through most of the musical parts I still got bored and gave up on the movie about 2/3 of the way through. Not really impressed with the movie. Maybe 1.5 out of 5 stars tops.

Hey Blu, Another Great Reaction
is anybody else noticing a background hum when Blu speaks? is there something wrong with her mic or the sound mixing?

Sarah Jessica Parker. She's not bad looking, but her character in Hocus Pocus is more attractive.
Really not a fan of the revisionist villain isn't evil trend that the stage show may have kickstarted.
