Eiji Oue is a fantastic conductor. He was the music director of the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra during the 1980s, and I was lucky to have played bass in that orchestra for 3 years. One of his comments to me after an audition was: Think the phrase more. Sounds simple, but truly a gift to always think about phrasing more than notes. That orchestra taught me to feel music, not to just read it off the paper. Eiji never had music in front of him during a concert. He was much more reserved in rehearsal, and the first concert we played I couldn't believe how animated he was. He pulled such great dynamics and musicality out of our group of very talented teenagers, it was a life changing experience for me for which I will always be grateful. How could you not give back every ounce of your ability for someone like him??

Listening to this, it makes so much sense that he said that to you. Because... I mean, you can play a piece perfectly, note for note, and it'll sound fine but sterile. Just from watching this, though, I can tell Oue is thinking about how like... I'm not a musician and so don't even know the technical terms, but the "I Vow to the My Country" part sounds so rich and... How do I put this? It's like the opposite of rushing through it; he savors it. So beautiful!

Eiji Oue is amazing. I reckon with his energy, he would take someone's head off with his baton if he conducted Mars.

This is so beautiful, Mr Oue is an amazing conductor, he truly feels the music and it translates to this wonderful orchestra. This is music at its best, if you can't go to the concert to see it - it comes to you.

Wow, that was beautiful. I especially like the "I Vow to Thee, My Country" part. That's always my been my favorite bit, but I like how sustained Oue makes it. Watching him, you can tell he really feels the music, and it makes it even better.

Finally a performance that gives this beautiful piece the majestic, smooth cadence it deserves and isn't rushed through! Best version I've ever heard. Eiji Oue, you have my greatest respect!

Superb conducting, musicianship and wonderful camera direction focussing on instrumentalists with precise timing;; introducing non musicians to those unfamiliar sounds. The very high standard one takes for granted from the Japanese people.

Some comments here are from 5yrs ago. Hello I'm new here. I'm watching alot of version of this piece however I notice All conductor do the same thing during the warmth tune of Jupiter, their waves of gestures are the same. I imagine the original composer do also while making this beloved piece of all time.

I would think that people were being sarcastic when they said that they weren't getting enough of seeing Oue's face except that I love watching him and I am quite happy to just watch him conduct.
