Thanks for watching the video today! I have included links for a couple spoiler options in the video description! Please consider subscribing for more Subaru content.
I just did this install, using this video as my primary guide. If you are reading this, a couple of pointers would really help. One, the holes on my template were correct, but there's only one small reversible template. It's a good idea to make a duplicate of the template using two pieces of regular printer paper taped together. Both those templates to the assembled wing, and put it on top of the trunk in the desired position. Measure from every angle possible to get the spoiler exactly where you want it. Then grab a few additional pieces of paper and bridge the gap between the two templates and tape everything together. Now you will be able to lay a full-sized single template all the way across the trunk like he did. Don't separate the sides, because you could get your holes just a little bit misaligned. With the entire template in place, measure again from all of the holes to the corners of the trunk and the front and the back to make sure that everything is exactly symmetrical. Now take a tiny drill bit and drill your initial guide holes. Additionally, you may want to go buy a hole saw to attach to your drill bit. One of the holes has an access hole underneath and you can easily put your ratchet extension in there. But the other hole you are going to need to make yourself. In the video, he did this with a 5/8 inch drill bit, and it got a little messy. Same thing happened to me. Instead, I used a hole saw bit attachment for my drill, some WD-40 to lube the metal while I was Drilling, and it cut a very nice clean hole. Makes it much easier to access from the bottom. $15 at Lowe's. Works great! Otherwise, great video! That helps a lot! Thanks!
Thank you for doing this video! I received a spoiler with no template at all and was wondering how I'm going to create my own. I had the idea just like you and glad to see it worked for you. Now onto making my template just like you did. Thanks!!
I love this video! No lame overly loud dumb music in the background. No immature slang, or holding your fist over your mouth saying “damn”! Just basic no nonsense install video. Great job!!
At 6:14 how did you go about transferring the drill holes exactly? You removed the two separate templates, placed them at the base of the wing and carefully marked them? Afterwards reattached the two templates back onto the trunk in the same exact position as prior?
Thanks for the video! I’m about to do this install.. it’s scary the template didn’t match the spoiler.. I wouldn’t have thought to check that! I will make sure to check my template! The spoiler looks sick!
Great video and super helpful! Question, how was the quality and how has it been holding up since this video? Is it secured all the way/any wobbling? Thinking about ordering one!
Hey mate, doesn't look like you used a deleter to cover the removal of the OEM wrx wing. Did you previously remove it and fill/spray the boot? The deleters are fine, but yours looks a lot nicer!
This WRX didn’t come with the trunk lip luckily, so was able to skip that part of the process. Seems like most people leave the lip on when they install a wing like this.
Do you know what screws you used when you installed into the trunk? I bought a spoiler but didn’t come with any screws so im looking into what id need.
Going to install this today after watching this video, Mine didn’t come with a template at all, so I can use masking tape or paper, To install the wing by myself, I’m gonna tape it down with double sided tape so it stays in place. I might make a video too
I wonder if it possible to do on a 2017 Ford Focus se. the body is actually similar to the Subaru wrx and I see a few done so but hard to tell if it was a 2017 Ford.
So I was looking into ikon Motorsports the wing I want is a pearl white but the problem I’m having is it has a lot o mixed reviews about the paint job and how it’s in even can anyone tell me if the purchase is good for those who own this wing .
Hey it might be great to see how your template relates to the existing template, the new holes will be offset so that's all you need to know is the offsets.
MikeM I'd get the torsion bars if you use your trunk a lot. It doesn't lift the trunk at all, but it doesn't bother me so I'm just rolling with it since I never open my trunk.
Julio Howe I used a 1/4 drill bit for the top and a 5/8 for the additional 2 holes on the bottom. I chose drill bits that we're close to the size of the bolts so that there was less slop.
Hey bud, question! When you ordered the wing off of IKON MotorSports, How much was the wing total with it painted, i was seeing like two prices, and how long did it take for the wing to come in from the time of purchase? Also in a comment below someone had asked about torsion bars for the trunk if you use it frequently what is that exactly
Dean Felix It was 300 with it painted. With the template it'll probably take you about 45 minutes. Without the template maybe add an hour to that if you're going to be careful. Good luck!
if you wouldnt mind, can you maybe drop the link in a reply please. seeing a couple different ones and i wanna make sure i get the right one for my 2018 WRX. thanks again
Dean Felix I just checked out the site. It's a little different than when I ordered mine and looks like they want 400 thru the site. Their eBay store however it still priced at 298. What color you need? I bet it's on there.
hey mate, looks really good. How is the quality tho? I can see it on the website now for like $226 painted. So I'm wondering about the quality. The price is kinda cheap. Does it stick to your trunk like an OEM one or you can see imperfections? Thanks, -E
Eugeniu Aftenii The quality is pretty good. I'm sure Ikon gets these wings from the same supplier from all those who sell this wing in this price point. Lots people. It mounts in the same location as the oem wing. It's held up well, with no fading, shipping or spider webbing in the paint. The paint match is spot on also!
Could of used original templates by remarking them with proper spacing..or paper strips that are lightly taped to wing over hole and then after getting the spoiler where you want, taping the strips down. - I use to install spoilers and bodykits for a custom shop during college.
Subie Shakedown yea it was hard to notice at first, I’m just gonna dupli color spray can paint match as much as I can since mine is the white pearl color and would be very noticeable, also crazy about your template, I checked mine and the holes lined up thankfully but I’m planning to use 3m tape instead of the gasket for extra strengthening, last thing I was wondering is there any movement once mounted?
Juan Martinez I guess you can, but I don't know if there was a possibility of some sort of reaction to the paint under the car. Guess read the package and see of there are any warnings?
Steven Nguyen The 2015 base didn't come with a trunk lip spoiler. I tried to trunk swap for like a year and no one was interested. I was lucky I didnt have the lip.
velcro62 thanks!! I appreciate the positive feedback! I try to put a lot of details in my tutorials. I am originally from San Jose area, now living in Southern Utah. How'd you suspect Fairfield CA?
Nope not from Fairfield. I live in Southern Utah now. Originally from San Jose though, Next time I come out that way to visit we def should do something, that would be sweet! Thanks for watching man, I really appreciate your positive feedback coop!
TJ Shoop There are a couple guys around my area with the huge wings. They are cool, just not my style though. I like how the sti wing fits with the body styling of the car. either way though, you should buy one!
Ronald Zamora I've seen that people are not having this same problem lately. If it matches it's a easy install. If not I can look in my garage and send you my template I made.
im planning to get this www.ikonmotorsports.com/2015-2019-subaru-impreza-4-door-wrx-sti-style-rear-trunk-spoiler-abs.html how was the fitment? bad fitment or perfect? please lemme know. Thank you so much.

Nicely done. Are you experiencing any rain water leaks so far?

Like your RUclips video on your Subaru @@SubieShakedown
Thank you for doing this video! I received a spoiler with no template at all and was wondering how I'm going to create my own. I had the idea just like you and glad to see it worked for you. Now onto making my template just like you did. Thanks!!
I love this video! No lame overly loud dumb music in the background. No immature slang, or holding your fist over your mouth saying “damn”! Just basic no nonsense install video. Great job!!
I know this was years ago but definitely the video I needed. I got my wrx and now it’s time for the wing. Thanks so much!
This is the best how to for this on RUclips man! Where did you get the adhesive from, a hardware store or online? Or it came with the wing?
Such wow thanks so much!! It all actually came with the kit.
gonna do this to my 2013 at some point. adds so much character
i just got the new static wing from victorracing for subaru and ur vid helped quite alot tnx
This is done so professionally
Beautiful work done
Thank you so much!
At 6:14 how did you go about transferring the drill holes exactly? You removed the two separate templates, placed them at the base of the wing and carefully marked them? Afterwards reattached the two templates back onto the trunk in the same exact position as prior?
How did you locate the holes? Would have been useful of you showed us that part.
The kit comes with blueprints to tape on the trunk for the holes
Some days I wish I bought that color WRX but I love mine.
I wished it was white or red, but the DGM is cool. Really there is no bad color though!
Thanks for the video! I’m about to do this install.. it’s scary the template didn’t match the spoiler.. I wouldn’t have thought to check that! I will make sure to check my template!
The spoiler looks sick!
Really nice man. I've been waiting to see how this turned out for you.
I like the way it came out. I have the same car and color and was thinking about putting on a spoiler. Thanks for the video
Thanks so much! Do it. You won't regret it.
Great video and super helpful! Question, how was the quality and how has it been holding up since this video? Is it secured all the way/any wobbling? Thinking about ordering one!

This WRX didn’t come with the trunk lip luckily, so was able to skip that part of the process. Seems like most people leave the lip on when they install a wing like this.
@@SubieShakedown Appreciate you getting back to me. I am leaning towards leaving the lip on. Thanks
I bought the same spoiler and ikon said they dont give templates. And gave me no adhesive. So now i have no way to drill it
Hey can u put a link from where u got it from
Do you know what screws you used when you installed into the trunk? I bought a spoiler but didn’t come with any screws so im looking into what id need.
Hello bro i am from malaysia....can we install it on toyota vios 1st generation ncp42...tq
only 2 tiny screws on each end holding massive spoiler? I believe OEM spoiler is hold by 4 screws on each end.
Going to install this today after watching this video, Mine didn’t come with a template at all, so I can use masking tape or paper, To install the wing by myself, I’m gonna tape it down with double sided tape so it stays in place. I might make a video too
awesome video! thanks for the tool layout.
Noah Broome no problem!
I think you may have skipped the part where you determine where the new holes should be on your new template.
I wonder if it possible to do on a 2017 Ford Focus se. the body is actually similar to the Subaru wrx and I see a few done so but hard to tell if it was a 2017 Ford.
Hey as a heads up. there's an extra i in spoiler in your title.
Hey thanks man! Didnt even notice! Not the easiest install but turned out pretty good I think.
I just bought a spoiler from them, should I expect my template not to line up too?
I think mine was a fluke. Turns out I just got the wrong one, which was designed for 08-14 wrxs. I bet you'll be okay.
How did it it turn out?
Are you skeptical on the 4 bolts holding it to your trunk? I feel like they are not quite enough to hold it on doing 80 on the freeway
Kajen Moore not really, bolts aren't going anywhere. People put vortex generators on with 3M tape. I'd be more worried about that sort of setup.
Any chance you helped Austin with his install I can’t seem to figure out the holes to drill
Kajen Moore yeah I helped him. His was way easier than mine actually. Probably only took 45 minutes. If you need help let me know!
Subie Shakedown yeah I was hoping he still had the templates he used. And I would appreciate the help
Bru wind is pushing DOWN on the wing not up lol 🤦♂️
So I was looking into ikon Motorsports the wing I want is a pearl white but the problem I’m having is it has a lot o mixed reviews about the paint job and how it’s in even can anyone tell me if the purchase is good for those who own this wing .
Might not get a reply , but how did you get rid of the small spoiler on your WRX prior to the STi wing install?
How were you able to drill so easily?
Where did you get the trunk without the tiny lip spoiler?
The 2015 base model didn’t come with the lip.
did u install the sti spoiler on the wrx trunk or u need to get the sti trunk to install the sti wing?
I just installed this on the wrx trunk.
Did your car come with WRX spoiler lip? If so, what did you have to do to remove it? Were there any bolts involved or was it all adhesive?
Did the roll of gasket stuff come with kit
Did you take the stock lip spoiler off? And do you need anything to prevent the wing from hitting the back windshield or is it fine?
ThatDudeCheath sorry for slow response. The 15 base WRXs didn't come with a lip spoiler. The wing is fine and clears the back window no problem.
Any updates for the wing? Paint fading? Is the sturdiness holding up?
Hey it might be great to see how your template relates to the existing template, the new holes will be offset so that's all you need to know is the offsets.
Love the park bench
HOw's the weight of this, did you have to get STi torsion bars? How much are they
MikeM I'd get the torsion bars if you use your trunk a lot. It doesn't lift the trunk at all, but it doesn't bother me so I'm just rolling with it since I never open my trunk.
How did you get your spoiler from shaking while driving??? I got my spoiler from subiespeed but the spoiler only comes with two screws on each side.
Mine was 2 screws on each side also... But I never had any real shaking issues? You could try some Perrin wing stabilizers maybe?
Double sided tape.
#HeyBoo👋🏾 great tutorial I will use this vid when I put mine together in a few weeks. Just ordered it an hour ago 🙌🏾
MsWRX Nice, that's super exciting!! Hopefully your holes line up with the template, Thanks for watching also!
Did you have to change your deck lid springs?
My template says start iwth 9mm, but doesn't tell you what the final drill bit size is, every video uses two bits, do you know what drill bits I need?
Julio Howe I used a 1/4 drill bit for the top and a 5/8 for the additional 2 holes on the bottom. I chose drill bits that we're close to the size of the bolts so that there was less slop.
Does this work on the 2018 wrx or do I need a trunk swap? Thanks in advance for reply.
It should work just fine! Same trunk lid as far as I know.
Thanks for the quick reply Subie Shakedown. Awesome video by the way. Very informative! Subscribed!

Got it. THanks for the reply!
So the car didn't comes with a wrx low profile spoiler lip ???😕
myScheme 2. 0 No. The Base model for 2015 didn't come with a lip spoiler.
Could of used original templates by remarking them with proper spacing..or paper strips that are lightly taped to wing over hole and then after getting the spoiler where you want, taping the strips down. - I use to install spoilers and bodykits for a custom shop during college.
What did you do with the 4 holes that come from the WRX lip?? Or did you trunk swap
The 2015 wrx base model didn’t come with a lip. So no issues there!
CAN YOU POST A LINK TO THIS KIT?
Did the diagram come with the wing?
What’s the link to buy this wing???
Did your spoiler came with the template and hardware
Hey can you link the spoiler? Also how is it holding up?
Looks Good man 👍🏼 Great job!! dropped a like and sub
Hey how did you get the stock spoiler off? Like the little lip?
My 2015 didn't come with one
Did your bolt covers come painted? I got the same ikon wing in white pearl and they came black
Edgar Aguilar mine came black also. But obviously you can't tell on DGM. Did you end up painting yours?
Subie Shakedown yea it was hard to notice at first, I’m just gonna dupli color spray can paint match as much as I can since mine is the white pearl color and would be very noticeable, also crazy about your template, I checked mine and the holes lined up thankfully but I’m planning to use 3m tape instead of the gasket for extra strengthening, last thing I was wondering is there any movement once mounted?
They gave the wrong template? That's so dirty.
Great video thought bro, I'll be getting my wing this week and doing the install this weekend.
Yeah I later figured out that they sent me the template for the 08-14 trunk lid. Mistakes happen! 🤷
2mm Gap? did you mean 20mm? or maybe 2cm?
Oh yeah. I meant 2cm gap. def a big difference there. haha!!
Subie Shakedown ;) looks great man
Thanks man, Appreciate it!
What drill bit was used?
1/4 in will work for bolts but I think 5/8 in was used for the bottom bolts to access from the bottom
Can you use RTV for the spoiler base gasket?
Juan Martinez I guess you can, but I don't know if there was a possibility of some sort of reaction to the paint under the car. Guess read the package and see of there are any warnings?
Great Vid! Will deff be using this once I install my spoiler.
I know this is super old lol, but the template probably didn’t match cause it was designed to match up with wrx’s with the lip on trunk
Did you take off your deck lid spoiler? Or did your trunk not have one?
Steven Nguyen The 2015 base didn't come with a trunk lip spoiler. I tried to trunk swap for like a year and no one was interested. I was lucky I didnt have the lip.
What’s the drill size
Nice Video man! May I ask where you get this spoiler?
Great guide! best one on youtube. Do you live in Fairfield, CA?
velcro62 thanks!! I appreciate the positive feedback! I try to put a lot of details in my tutorials. I am originally from San Jose area, now living in Southern Utah. How'd you suspect Fairfield CA?
Subie Shakedown the houses, street and lawns look like my old neighborhood haha
If you lived in Fairfield I was going to say we should collab on a RUclips video together. Great install!
Nope not from Fairfield. I live in Southern Utah now. Originally from San Jose though, Next time I come out that way to visit we def should do something, that would be sweet! Thanks for watching man, I really appreciate your positive feedback coop!
Subie Shakedown sounds like a plan bud! Subscribed to the channel, I’ll be on the lookout for new content.
They failed to send those gaskets with my kit, do you remember how thick they were?
No clue. Sorry I can't help you there. I'm sure if you message them, they'll make it right though 👌
Where did you buy the drill template????
Rolando Cruz It came in the kit. I figured out that somehow I got the drill template for the previous gen sti on accident.
Subie Shakedown I need one for my aunts sti
Looks great man!
Thank you!
How has the spoiler been for you?! Any issues with paint? And any cracks in the wing itself?
Brian H. No issues with it. It's been great! I recommend it to everyone!
Now you need to swap your torsion bars to the sti ones or else you will damage your trunk over time.
Can you explain why/how it will damage the trunk? is it because it is heavier now?
Looks awesome man!! I cant decide between the sti wing or a stupidly huge wing lol.
TJ Shoop There are a couple guys around my area with the huge wings. They are cool, just not my style though. I like how the sti wing fits with the body styling of the car. either way though, you should buy one!
did the drilling template come with the packaging or did u get it from somewhere else?
It was included ☺️
How much was the kit to do this?
At the time it was 300. I'm not sure if the price has changed since then.
could you please scan your template and send it to me by mail, since I have the spoiler but not the template and did not find it in any store, thanks
How much did the sti wing cost
Trap Zman about 450
NICE!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!
Thank you! Very well made video
Right here you got me beat my boy cause you are drilling holes! Don’t know if I am ready for that. Going to need a 6 pack of big boy juice! Lol
Haha I know! measure 50, times drill once! It’s definitely hits the nerves hard.
HI where's buy this wing?
Chiu Wong from dealer
U took the bottom off it did not come ready to drill wtf lol
hey man i have a question can i use that to my 2013 ford focus se? tnx
jkl axl I don't think it will fit, but you never know I guess. The trunk lid would have the be shaped almost exactly the same.
you bought an aftermarket spoiler and they gave you a template for the oem spoiler
I later figured out I had been given the template for the 12-14 trunks.
Hey man i just subbed to your channel did you order this through their website or did you go on ebay?
Ronald Zamora Thanks for the sub! I got this through the website! Thinking about picking one up?
Subie Shakedown yeah man im just a bit worried about the template holes lol
Ronald Zamora I've seen that people are not having this same problem lately. If it matches it's a easy install. If not I can look in my garage and send you my template I made.
Subie Shakedown i would really appreciate it if you would send me the template that youve made. Please let me know if you still have it
Thats the only thing that stopping me to place my order
Looks clean bro 💯
Great content on your channel thanks for sharing
Bro. The one and only thing I wanted to see is how you marked out the holes… didn’t even show us that
That wing tho 💪
Great job!
Ivan Panev thank you so much!!
Hows the wing holding up so far?
Julian it's good! No issues so far! Paint and everything is holding up great. Even had a car painter tell me it looked like a great paint match/job.
Subie Shakedown thanks man! Guess an order to Ikon will be taking place
I bought an sti And i like it more with no wing on it i dont have it on and wanted to jnstal it but ill leave it like that
Norm’s STI lol, I’ll take it off your hands for you haha, I’m thinking about putting an STI wing on my WRX
Two thumbs up!
Thank you!
Good job
I put one on my t.C. 2016. Looks cool. Yes I know Its not a rear wheel drive car. BUT. I don't give a shit.
cholomackdaddy Nice! As long as you like it, who cares!
Sunbie Shakedown. Your wing wouldn't happen to flex a bit on bumpy roads? Or at high speeds? I just noticed that on my wing.
cholomackdaddy I honestly haven't noticed. I wouldn't be surprised though since Perrin makes the wing stiffies for the sti wings
Did it fit good? I have. 2015tC and i haven’t installed it yet, but the base of the spoiler is a bit bigger than the trunk
That's the biggest 2mm I've ever seen
im planning to get this www.ikonmotorsports.com/2015-2019-subaru-impreza-4-door-wrx-sti-style-rear-trunk-spoiler-abs.html
how was the fitment? bad fitment or perfect? please lemme know. Thank you so much.
