Cheating is going to kill the game if they don't work more proactively to prevent it. In Gold levels, there is A LOT of Googling: when you report someone, you get your Elo back, but you don't get the game you lost back, making it quite difficult to move up.
2:03 - 012 is supposed to be the west of Sapporo area code. However, there's definitely something weird about 012, because in my recent Japan practicing, I saw phone numbers starting with 012 all over the country. [EDIT: It turns out that 0120 is used for toll-free numbers]
Good to see you going toe to toe with the top players more consistently nowadays. Grind seems to be paying off and it's been fun seeing you improve these past few months. I've gained about 250 MMR from watching your videos
10:09 I am a HUGE Saab enthusiast, and I own a classic 1988 Saab. When you said “there’s a Saab”, that made me extremely happy. Glad you recognize this old wonderful dead brand! (Search 1988 Saab 900 SPG to see mine if you’re interested)
@@ethanm6898 Oh you don’t need to tell me lol, I’m the biggest Saab enthusiast you’ll meet. Also if you think the 9-3 and 9-5 have an aircraft inspired/shaped interior, you should look at some of the pre-GM Saabs. (The 9-3 and 9-5’s are still beautiful, never denying that)
I didn't even recognize Greece there, caught me off guard. That's Mount Olympus, the tallest in Greece. I've noticed the central highway Athens to Thessaloniki has these yellow kilometer markers in the middle, especially closer to Thessaloniki which you can see in the round.
In the Nova Scotia round there is a boat in the foreground called a lobster boat, not sure if that's the actual name. Its something that would be extremely rare to see on the Great Lakes, its an Ocean style boat. Very common around Maine, Bay of Fundy, Nova Scoatia etc.
18:20 eastern Illinois, Indiana and Ohio used to host forests of massive tall trees in the 19th century before they were completely logged and lowlands drained, very good countryside for tree growth. Those trees looked a little small for the age of the neighborhood so a more western guess for dryness could have been warranted. Post hoc reasoning to be sure though
This is the second time today that as a BC boy I've tried to yell at my TV to correct a video. The first being Rainbolt's where he thought BC was Montana. Good job on getting the province, but I could tell it was in the Kootenays... I'm only proud of that fact because BC coverage is literally the one and only time I feel like I could beat either of you in this game 😅😅😅. Keep up the good work!
I'm a really streaky player, but I'm also nowhere near your ranking. For now, I know certain areas really well, and others nearly not at all. I should probably even out my knowledge. Also, I think there should be a leaderboard for avatar spins. :)
Same here. Like, the PEI is not that surprising to me - I can never be bothered to learn camera generations as I don’t care for car/tech meta and I’m sure there are 1600 players that don’t actively learn where you get what camera gen, especially a tiny island on the edge of Canada. But going Aceh? Why would you? I’d only hedge in places where I’ve seen an actual round OR is between possible locations. I would not hedge Aceh just like I would not hedge Papua.
10:05 Competely useless info but the k in 'köping' that is in a lot of Swedish town names is pronounced somewhere between an 'sh' and 'j' sound (I'm not a linguist i cant desribe it better sorry)
Being from Luxbourg, I dont believe there is actually a difference between German and Luxembourgish road marking as in line width, length etc. Some will definitely scream Luxembourg (to me) but in your round, it was just 50/50. Except the landscape was not super Lux looking.
Geogeussr is great but the interface and layout of the menu is messy and like an unorganized maze sometimes. I need a minute just to find the daily challenge or setting up a private game or finding a map. It doesnt suprise me the report button is so hidden too lol.
As much as I love the Japanese rounds aesthetically it’s amazing how reliably they wreck me. Except for obvious Hokkaido there’s always a 45% chance it could be literally anywhere in Japan
You can report someone by going to their profile page. Scroll down near the bottom and you'll see it. But I agree you should be able to report without looking them up directly.
@@vile05 So, let me nerd out about sidewalks for a bit. To me, that sidewalk with staggered square bricks is the most Swedish thing ever. In many cities you will find that exact style of sidewalk, with the lines of the pattern going across the sidewalk from the house to the road. Certainly in Stockholm where I've lived and walked on those in my whole life. (With the exception being the old town which is using cobblestone a lot.) If you dig deep enough, you can probably find a road authority document specifying the exact size and pattern. I tried doing a small survey of Finland and Poland as well. In Finland, the sidewalks seem to be almost exclusively made of asphalt. At least in Helsinki, Tampere, Vaasa, Oulu. In Turku, they use similar bricks, but with the pattern running along the sidewalk instead of across it. So for that reason, Finland would be unlikely for me. Poland had some similar looking sidewalk bricks, after looking at a few locations in Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk. But it also has a bigger diversity of styles. Warsaw almost seems like complete anarchy with regard to the sidewalk styles. So that wouldn't be my first choice either. And based on the architecture instead of the sidewalk, I would prefer Sweden or Finland over Poland.
It means that a location in a map has a specified panorama. Basically it means you can specify and old date. In Street View you can click view all dates. Same thing. Otherwise the location is specified as a latitude/longitude coordinate and the location is automatically updated if new coverage is released.
Do you mean that as in, why would anyone do something like that? Or how it's possible? The answer to the second question is that the game must call the Google Maps API to get the images. This means there's always a way to figure out the exact location. The only way you could solve the problem is if Geoguessr would act as a middleman and send the data through their servers to remove the location information. This might work but would hurt performance and cost a lot of extra money in server costs.
Our first opponent has been banned from comp and our elo has been refunded.

It's worth noting that in Japan 0120 is a general toll free number and is not indicative of north to south like most phone numbers.

Btw on that japan, 012 is in fact a hokkaido area code, but if you see 0120 like you did in this case, that’s a just mobile code
Wow good to know, thank you
0120 isn't a mobile number. It's a toll free number used by companies.
At 36:20 VENDESI is the italian word for "we sell this house", so if you see that word it's certainly Italy (or Italian speaking Switzerland)
0120 at the beginning of a phone number does not indicate a specific region in Japan, but 0125 or 0126, for example, actually indicates Hokkaido.
