A nice idea would be to add overhead lines to the tram and also you can build a nice tunnel where the tram tracks go into so you can connect them with the main railway. Finally, you can build a depot In your Lego city to store your trains and put them on display.
The only issue might be the price of the string needed to do it, and it would not be as modular if it is run in 1 long strip. If it is done, I suggest to run the string for each modual
The area next to the rock face could make something cool that could focus on the aboveground/below ground aspect, so something like a underground jazz club, or smuggler base to go with that storyline. It just seems like a cool hidden away place
I think some graffiti would look nice on the wall that is touching the rocks as well. Gives it a bit of personality and sells the shady vibe a bit more
I really like this European style city. The stairs do look a bit long though. I think a more realistic approach is to add some intermediate levels in order to break a fall or have a rest. But anyway keep up the good work 👍
Absolutely. I would also have the new stair case snake back and forth once, so it starts and ends next to / above the train tracks. That's closer to how it would be build in a real city as it reduced the distance someone crossing the tracks would need to walk at the top section and would at the same time add a bit of variety.
I agree with you, if you look at it in a psychological way. The stairs won’t feel too long and daunting if you make a couple of landings. Now days when you calculate where to put the landings you usually put them at eye-level of an average tall person. Probably not doable in your city but anyway, wanted to give you the information.
I think you should add the lighthouse further to the right, maybe right in front of that new rock layout you built. Being a Michigander whose seen many lighthouses, I have found that most lighthouses are usually set apart from town a little bit, and I think placing your lighthouse outside the town would make it seem more natural than if it is right next to buildings and trains. Anyway, so glad to have the weekly updates back! I missed them for sure! Keep up the good work!
Great progress! Love the lighthouse idea but realistically it should be on a peninsula further away from the houses - nobody wants a light illuminating their room every few seconds!
You could build a river running behind the tram line on the far right side of the city in that runs into the ocean, could be a nice place to add a little bit of greenery to that side of the city. Also a good opportunity for some boat houses. Thanks for the cool content :)
You should get some static overhead camera mounts that you can clip your camera into to get the same exact view every time. Won't get the nice close-up before and after, but it'd be very cool to see a timelapse of all the pictures in a few years
@@MikehMike01 Haha, I am aware. I am not refering to the material per se. Instead, I am referring to the fact that such a thin cut of wood, supported on four corners, nothing in the middle, was able to hold a grown man's weight and movemet without snapping. Some wood plates won't hold and crack. Ergo, its good wood.
The UK's a weird place. The house I grew up in was built about 30 years after the USA was founded, and my school was founded in the mid 1600s haha Having said that, even I am kind of shocked that such a thin peice of chipboard supported a whole dude with just corner supports!
If you want to use the area below the high part of the city you could do an underground tran station, like a vertical cut revealing what happens to the trains after the tunnel. It is also a good room for a mafia secret base, i really miss the minifigs.
I really like the idea of integrating a building within the rockface. I think that would look really good, especially as the roof would be able to than integrate with the upper platform.
I've been a silent viewer until now, but at some point i just have to say it. You're honestly doing something awesome. I think we all appreciate your work immensely. Keep going at it! I'm always excited for the next video :)
Something about the two staircases to the upper platform going in the same direction almost looks off to me. I feel as if they should both point in towards the train tunnels so you are not forced to walk near the tracks to go up the stairs. Could be cool to integrate the new stairs more with the rock face by having them turn halfway and zig zag down rather than being a straight shot.
I think for the buildings in the lower section next to the new rocky part you’ve just build, you can take inspiration from the beach houses/buildings from Normandy in France, like the old town of Granville…with the upper part of the city it will ne great !
This series is so exciting, I only found your channel when you moved in to the new space. Seeing progression like this week after week has my inner kid giddy
Love your videos as always. I drop anything I'm doing to go watch them as they come out. Little suggestion on the stone staircase, normally in cities these types of long stairwells have platforms every 10-20 steps or so to give a break to the users, it might allow you to play with more interesting shapes and even add features to these platforms such as benches, plants, etc.
The X crossing of the railroad track could possibly lead into an abandoned track that enters an abandoned tunnel and the building next to the track could possibly be a former station or signalling house. The X crossing would be there because the railroad corporation might've wanted to use that track for future railroad lines which of course didn't succeed. Other details related to the abandonment of this railway line could also be added this way.
The coastline for your city should wrap around along with your proposed tramline. This would allow for a grand beach along the coast and to develop a pier-like structure. It would also give some more space for the water area to breathe a bit. The lighthouse should be on a peninsular to prevent disruption to the city from it, or it could be further out on a rock structure like the needles at the Isle of Wight. It might also be worthwhile to upscale the scale of the mountain so that it has larger trees so that it doesn't feel out of place.
Why not make the lighthouse on a rock in the sea with water all around and a pedestrian bridge between the lighthouse and the coast? Like the Kermorvan lighthouse in France. Maybe with some backwash. And maybe a small natural island in the corner to allow the sea to get in the corner and surround the lighthouse. Otherwise, like last time, here is my list of ideas for some inspiration: - a forest with a camp or some cabins, maybe a birch forest to make some other kind of trees - a city park with different kind of tree (japanese cherry tree, birch tree, etc.) - a lowered section in front of the village (or in the corner) with more natural seaside, like a beach in a cove, some reef or a old creaky wooden dock - an evolving module with different festivals all around the year: erntedankfest, summer music festival, weihnachtsmarkt, etc.
I think the lighthouse would be better a little further down the harbor, possibly closer to the corner so it doesnt block as much of the city and can be a bit further out from the traintracks?
i think the tram should be in the elevated part it would look very nice with the old corner buildings, trains on the lower part and tram on the elevated part, i would love to see it!
It would be great to integrate a waterfall. You have 2 levels above the harbour which should offer a lot of options. Great opportunity for cool techniques.
The buildings in the rockface sounds awesome! Perhaps you could build the lighthouse slightly further away though, it would seem a little tight. Man, this build is looking INCREDIBLE though, can't wait for it to be nearing completion!
The 45-degree train tunnels and that whole divided section looks *incredibly good*, serious well done for figuring it out to line up perfectly! Not to mention the staircases and tunnel edges for decoration
regarding the before and after pictures, maybe marking the spot on the ground that you use for a tripod helps recreating the same angle? Thank you for the update tough I found the title misleading and thought it was a month old video before your move. :) I'm glad I still clicked
I think it'd be cool to have the tram line go up to the second level. There are funicular trams which might be really cool to see; Angels Flight in Los Angeles is an example of one in a city, and Switzerland of course has a bunch as well.
For the rockface buildings, you could definitely do something like the buildings in Luxembourg. I am thinking of that one church built into the rockface.
I think the idea of the two tracks crossing there, could actually be a really good idea! As for your planning issues with such an idea, You could make it curve after the track crossing towards the road, and then have a dual road rail tunnel - Which is actually a very common practice in European countries. I think it'd fit right in, and add a nice amount of detail to the area.
Great video and I really like your planning. Your city feels so much more alive then others. I have an idea for the traintrack in the back after the intersection. Let the road go into the tunnel, but make the traintrack like an open tunnel (google the concept, but its like one side of the tunnel is open and having a view outside while it follows the shape of the mountain)
Have you considered having a beach around the corner? It would be good for the trams as they’d be linking the train station and the beach and would be a bit of a tourist attraction themselves. It could like a bit like Tenby in Wales or various Cornish towns which have a beach in front of a steep cliff and loads of small houses and B&Bs.
In that open space by the new rock face you could add a valley, a stream going through it, and you could have the train going on a cliff on one of the mountains there. Then, you could also make a secret hide out for the mafia story in one of the mountains, like in a cave. You could also make a little park, like a grass park with some trees and a small hill. That would add some variety to the small parks/plazas that you have made, and more green.
I really like the building near the rocks area. You can create a “ruin bar”, basically a bar with music & people dancing and drinking in a ruined building! And the top section would be an open bar to the upper section
I would love to see the tram climbing up to the upper platform. Don't know if it's possible at all, but it would definitely add a Great connection between the two areas
Instead of connecting that line to the tunnel you could possibly end it where it ends there and create a sort of train yard or train mechanic shop kind of thing. Its just outside the city and in the countryside-ish so it could look good
Train and car tunnels are a thing, along with train and car bridges. One example is a tunnel I know of on the Alaska Railroad. When trains are not running cars can drive on the tracks like a super long crossing.
I would like to see a dilapidated/abandoned building. Maybe out by the harbor, and you can add a group of kids using it as their hangout base. Just sounds like a nice bit of worldbuilding.
Love the tram! Maybe instead of a train crossroad just have the track end there and build something around the dead end? Love the city man. Always waiting for the next video :)
You may want to look at some of the other Lego cities. They used asymmetric roads, bus stops cutting into pavements, central reservations of trees etc… these may help you make your city roads appear less gridded.
The Before-and-After was perfect! I really enjoy seeing the different tiers of elevation and I wonder how possible it would be to add a crane that would lift a locomotive and individual train cars from one tier up or down to another tier, much like a canal locks with shipping lanes.
I think it would be cool if you added a peninsula of wood coming from the bay to hold an island. Add the lighthouse on the island and that would be awesome. The wood base could be spoon shaped to give more room for the island.
I'm sure someone has already said this but turning that building that's disappearing into the rockface into a restaurant could be SUPER cool. A restaurant that below the ground and looks out at the tram line and off into the sea or something seems so appealing and I think would be really fun to build
The houses inside the rocksurface is a very cool idea. Maybe you can add a canel in front of those houses where the tram rails lies beside. The canel can come down with a small waterfall on the harbor-side.
The building next to the rocks looks awesome so when a tram ride in front of the buildings it would be awesome if you made it a shop or library or something with a little market in front of it
I was thinking for the streetcar, and it is a bit of a stretch, that you could make it go up and down a slope to reach the upper platform. It could work by having a hidden cable or chain that pulls it up, like a lego rollercoaster, and there could be a switch or sensor that retracts, or changes the direction the chain’s movement when the streetcar/tram is going the other way.
Instead of a 45 degree angle, if you were to rotate it just a little bit more you could have some brickbuilding technique to build along a diagonal with something like a 3/4/5 triangle (technically a 4/5/6 stud triangle.) it might make building and supporting that wall and the interior easier.
I think doing a walk-able city concept on the upper platform with all the custom buildings at interesting angles makes sense. Adding in some street parking at the edge of the walk-able city area lends more to the concept. You can sneak in some sales stands between the buildings and have small green spaces up there as well.
For the road and railroad nearby each other that go into a tunnel. You could build a shared Rail-Road Tunnel. There are places in Alaska, Canada, Switzerland, and others where the railroad runs in the middle of the street, in the same tunnel as the road, and when a train approaches, traffic lights stop traffic from entering the tunnel, allowing trains to go through.
i love the idea of building buildings into the rock face, if you made one of them a public building or shop it could provide a lift for disabled access for the levels
Incorporating an old castle or watch tower into the rock area could be fun. A city that has been around for centuries would have modern buildings mixed with historic buildings, and a fort or watchtower by the harbor would be logical, and placing it by rock outcroppings or promontories also logical. @@Ol_Smokey he wouldn’t use string, he would use the cable elements he used at on point for the other tracks, but yeah, still very expensive!

The area next to the rock face could make something cool that could focus on the aboveground/below ground aspect, so something like a underground jazz club, or smuggler base to go with that storyline. It just seems like a cool hidden away place
you could also save lot of wall bricks by placing random stuff under the staircase since it is hidden by the rockface
