Yes they will... When you look at a TV movie in a million dollar budget range, you end up w/ 5 Sharknados, dozens upon dozens of Hallmark movies, etc... and while no one will consider them "fine art", they do make money. Personally we turn them into drinking games and cheer at the screen... not much different than WWF wrestling fans cheering, or the "K" faked/scripted reality show fandom, etc... Some people find poetry in bumper sticker slogans, some only read Wordsworth and no one else... 😜
Sharknado is secretly genius. How many film-makers have tried to make a so-bad-it's-good movie on purpose? You can't. Those movies get made by film-makers who think they're Kurasawa. Directors who attempt to capture that magic on purpose, end up just making it bad-bad. Except Sharknado. Sharknado is a masterclass of shit.

Hey writers, don't give up. It's tough to make it but you will never make it if you give up on your dream. I will NEVER give up and I will have the #1 movie in the box office someday soon, I don't ever let the statistics phase me. If someone else has done it then so can you!

Even hearing this. I will still continue to pursue my writing career as a novelist and screenwriter. I’m going to use RUclips and produce my own stuff even if it’s low budget because sometimes the reader can’t see the Vision the writer has.

I agree with the theory you have in mind but it’s the film BUSINESS. So even if you have great material, you still have to compromise enough to appease an audience to even get them to watch your self-produced indie film. You are more than capable to attract producers, don’t be discouraged even a little

I like a challenge. Its good to know what your up against, so the reward is that much sweeter.
Before you blindly follow someone, check their IMDB if they have any credibility well then you will know.
A lot of good advice has been given in these comments. Just a few things to remember. 1. Entertainment is a business. The accountants want to show a profit at the end of the year. So the lead question is, "Will this project make back our cost plus 10%?" 2. Don't use a bad movie as an excuse to write a bad script. 3. Pulp Fiction worked because it had never been done before. Today I wouldn't give something like it a 50% chance. 4. Producers are looking for all kinds of content. Be willing to look at all the venues from Life Time to Hallmark Channel to Indies, Amazon, Netflix to major studios. 5. Remember what Professor Larry Donner said, "A writer writes, always. 6. Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice does. So learn, hone your craft and always strive to be better than you are now.
Still, there are so many bad movies made every year. It''s not all about few major studios anymore. There are producers looking for all kind of stories out there. Even those who would rether made a story they like into a movie and earn 1 Mil then goes for huge gross without giving a damn about story.

Even if the story sucks, a lot of these films are grossing big numbers at the box office. So something is working. Pay closer attention to the market
He said he saw 1000 screenplays in 8 years. That is nothing. The US copyright office gets 50.000 registrations per year.
He is a script teacher. When he recorded this he was already out of the front line. So we can assume that he already got the floating b and c-level quality.

There are thousands like this guy who read for a living, he's only one person. If your story and script is good you will be looked at.
A lot of these videos are we really negative, this isn’t the first time I’ve felt this way. I think it’s to stop people from doing it. It’s all an elite game, the way of film is independent.
If a script has to be great to get optioned and produced, how does so much absolute rubbish get released?
Are many of the scripts that get rejected actually bad, or too original for producers to take a risk on?
This is late, but I currently just got into reading scripts and my job is to sift through, create feedback and then it gets passed on to my boss which is an Executive Producer, once he likes it he will pass it on to the top guy and if he likes it then he will fund. I don’t work for a huge production company but my company typically sells to Lionsgate and Grindstone.

Are the scripts going into production the best of a bad bunch, or are good, original scripts shunned because they won't attract a mainstream American audience? @@maxwellsmartarse2916 my mistake, there’s so many writers and different ideas. Sometimes those ideas are fully fledged out. It’s a business so they need to make money. There’s so many bad scripts because they’re just ideas and some people think they have the most amazing script ever but it sucks.
For example, I read a script with a very promising first act and then it switched focus to a side plot and ran with it and first act was practically for nothing.
You gotta sift through and find what is the best!
In the end, it’s people who think they are qualified to write scripts but actually arent and just gets tossed unfortunately.

@@revokedcoupon2451 I accept what you are saying about the submissions you received ... but I don't think that it's harder and harder to have good stories. Too many stories rely on standard, cliched endings like the duex ex machina for instance, which is lazy lazy lazy. I think most hollywood story-telling is lazy lazy lazy because too few writers are exploring wonderful ideas - or is it that studios DON't WANT new ideas and just want established IP to churn out the same old tired stories.
Have you found many good, original ideas that could be workshopped into a decent script, but the studio isn't interested?
Or are a bulk of the stories you receive just rehashed from stories you've already seen a million times - but written worse?
In Martin Scorcese's "The Irishman", he couldn't get a studio to fund it so he funded it himself. I've heard about this sort of thing happening heaps. I'm just curious how many brilliant, original stories writers have created but were ignored by studios.

It really makes me curious, If I am working to eventually build relationships with studios and become a writer for television and film, should I try to get my work published before I start sending scripts to a studio? I’m a little confused on the idea that unknown writers don’t get things published, even if it’s good. So then should I work on becoming a known writer before I submit TV and movie scripts?
And after all that, we have "House of the dead" de Uwe Boll, "Amusement", which is a steaming pile of shit, and Twilight, should I write more?
Abel Wesker that's why all these videos are mostly garbage. A few good ideas and everything else, is pretentious bollocks. Hollywood writers are horrific on average. They're all full of their own shit.
Context matters. Boll paid for his own films, so there was no gatekeepers stopping what he was doing. Twilight was hype and actor driven, not content driven. Schwarzenegger had a couple of duds that sold because of his name.
I agree and disagree on so many levels. Bad movies get made every year. It's all based on preferences, etc...
You have to really question his statements about script rejection considering how much crap has been green-lit for production in the last decade. It all comes down to exec's pockets and personal taste of the higher ups
If these people know so much then how many blockbusters have been made from their work?! If it's not working for them how could it work for others? How many GREAT scripts are out there within films today? Most green-lit scripts are not even good scripts so doesn't that contradict the advice?
It's really rough trying to get into script coverage, at least originally without a resume. I've been trying to get a job reading scripts volunteering. And offering 20-35 hours a week of my time and it just isn't happening. Either people don't want the risk or don't want to invest, hopefully I keep trying and my luck changes.
May I ask what's this script coverage?
I went to a talk where the writer described a meeting in "Hollywood" with the studio and country distributors to sell the concept of a movie. A success at that meeting would result in the script being funded. So the script comes after the sale. I'm not saying Daniel is wrong but there seems to be newer opportunities. The idea seems to be make a movie on RUclips and sell yourself as a movie maker. Then the studios will be interested.
Can they be turned into a graphic book?

thats bullshit. a script doesnt have to be 'great'. it has to be good enough to get into production. the final output has to be 'great'. what is the director dp and editor going to do if the onus of the films 'greatness' lies on the shoulders of the writer?

A dose of reality, but you're looking at it the wrong way...thats indicative of how much BAD writing is out there. Others on right to say How MUCH Content there is, Always. Just practice and you'll be good and always learn people and trends/the market. Sell your self as the genius you could be if only given the chance. And every body benefits. Yikes, 9 out of 10 things get rejected and lots of the stuff being filmed is completely unwatchable. Maybe they are rejecting the wrong 9 out of 10 scripts.
I work on my scripts, work, work, work because I want to be proud of my work. I do it for the fun of it. I have only read a handful of scripts but I tell you most of them are garbage and the movies made from them are generally even worse. There is so much trash out there, which leads me to believe that it is not the quality of the script that matters most but who you know.

These people are subjective. Always remember that. This guy is talking about reading for HIS studio (employer). So he's already going in with a bias towards picking scripts that his employer wants to work with. Automatic bias.
No one should let this discourage them. You might not get a consider/recommend from Studio ABC but you may get it from someone at Studio XYZ. Hollywood is way bigger than one studio. Writers need to keep that in mind.

That says more about the sources you try to find content. The streamers have reach to elevate trash. Their numbers go for the lowest dominator. Some random company producing 20 movies a year can afford to produce 10 duds because two run that well. They maybe want to keep their producers busy and that's it. Thats a different business.
His viewpoint is skewed by the scripts he saw. Yours is skewed by the movies you select. If I look at production houses slate at IMDB there are lots of films I have never heard of, rarely promoted but they rarely hit below 6.5 on IMDB. But you wouldn't watch those movies for reasons. They quality stuff it out there.
Really, how many 'Great' movies have any of you people seen in the last 10 yrs, 15yrs, hell 20 yrs?..there is soooo much Crap being made (just look at netflix) its sickening..remakes are the norm as hollywood execs have as much imagination as a pair of socks..hollywood is like any business, its who you know or who you're related to..you Have to be connected or have an agent who is.. If this guy is waiting to read a 'Great' script before he makes a film he'll be 90 years old before he does anything..'Sharknado' anyone!..., have a ton of CG, hire Dwayne Johnson or Mark Wahlberg and you have a hit with Dialog my German shepherd could right.. haha..omg
