New Years Painting Resolutions: #1 The Weight of Decisions - Week 48 (04/01/2021)

HNY! We're super happy to be back and what better way to start our 2nd year than with a week's worth of Painting Resolutions (as opposed to regular resolutions that are well-intended and ephemeral). This week we explore 5 aspects of (my) painting that I wish to focus on with the hopes of strengthening them throughout the year. Today we take on the weight of decision-making, and while it's sounds somewhat vague and suspiciously ominous, it's an aspect that I find vital within my own painting practice. I wanted to start with this one, because I'm horrified of it. I many times find myself painting for hours, dancing merrily around the image doing absolutely nothing of value, because I'm too scared to face with the necessary commitment, the decisions that would help me get out of a problem and truly develop a painting. So today's painting is about the heightened consciousness of putting something down and letting it be.
