I think the big thing with a Shielhau is just the concept of skating down your opponents sword. I'm glad to see everyone covering the various ways to accomplish, nice concise explanation!
Nice video, clear and quick to the point. As for the validity of the historical part i think in Ringeck it explains the exact same technique in order to beat longpoint or plough
For the swordsman in the red top, how do you like those finger gloves for sparring? Do they protect your digits well? I found this technique video very helpful.
Glad you liked the video! Those are the Thokk Weaponmaster gloves. I like them in general because they're not too heavy and they allow pretty good control of the weapon. In terms of protection, they're adequate for longsword as long as you use the extra metacarpal protection. You will feel it when someone hits your fingers, though, in a way you wouldn't with something like the Spes Heavies or HF Black Knights. I've taken some hard hits to the fingers in tournaments that drew blood through the glove, but my fingers survived. The biggest downside, and the reason I hesitate to recommend them, is durability. I have sewn literally dozens of patches onto these gloves in the couple years I've had them and this doesn't seem to be particularly unusual. I backed the crowdfunding campaign for them so mine were quite cheap, but at full price I don't think they're worth it. The HF black knights, Gabriel five fingers or even the SF impact-resistant HEMA gloves are probably better options.
You could absolutely use the Schielhau for a feint, yes! I personally find it pretty good as a direct attack, but if your opponent comes to expect you to do it, then feinting a Schielhau and coming in for a Twerhau on the opposite side (for example) could be effective.
Thank you yt algo for leading me to this gold mine keep up the great work
Thanks, will do!

Videos with this much info are usually dragged out 10X as long.
We do our best to keep our videos short and informative. Thanks for watching!
Very nice. Kinda like the sawn off version of a shotgun
