Hard to not go "Ooohhh, he's gonna be so happy". But then again, there are many cases like that throughout the story.
@@siyrean kinda agree but also WoL often uses violence and kills people that didn't actually deserve it (like garlean soldiers, they're just conscripts... Or tribe members of various races) So I think doing this "for the greater good" isn't actually that far off from their usual methods
15:49 fun fact: they made a minion of her that came with the Shadowbringers art book, which is holding a minion version of her husband in her arms in a manner reminiscent of this scene 😂
The Soul Color thing comes up in the Alchemist job quests. You help make something that makes a person briefly glow the color of their soul, and you actually get to see the color of the WoL's soul. It's pale blue, if you're wondering.
I *love* the alchemy story quests! I also have a headcanon that Sadu can see soul color too. Since it's her job to identify who has been reborn among the Undying. Totally headcanon but I like to dream.
Lol in regards to not spoiling in the comments, oh man. When you were first talking about the Estinien action game I was just sitting there, squirming in my chair going "oh man oh man he's gonna love the end of 5.1!". Edit: Well it is happening again, but for different reasons than last time!
About the Nu Mou dog commands stuff, it's actually an English version-only thing. In Japanese and other languages, the joke is that the Nu Mous are just way too wholesome to refuse people sincerely begging them for help.
Honestly it works pretty well with how the fae use onomancy - magic relating to true names and words of power. I wouldn't be surprised if it was in some way an intentional touch from the localization team, since Nu Mou *are* fey as well, same as the pixies and water fae. A big part of fey is following set, elaborate magical rules, such as having to abide by requests made as commands to a dog!
What the fuck was that intro!!! I am fucking dying laughing! I have tears!! Well done bois! As much as i love the evolution of your journey, the evolution of your videos is just as awesome to witness!
"It was like we'd told her her Girl Scout cookie order was in." Um, Garrett, I'm pretty sure if we'd told her that her Girl Scout cookie order was in, she would have been ecstatic and jumping around the room, like any normal person would do when finding out that they're getting Girl Scout cookies.
Concerning “not cutting characters in half” I always interpreted one of the last ARR cutscenes to depict just that. The character falls down on their knees (without showing torso) and the next shot is the character falling on their back. Implying the body fell in two different ways.
You never see his whole body together and the last shot of him onscreen has his torso just to the left of the picture so it’s heavily implied that he became two even smaller people 👀
For the body not being decomposed, Remember that Emet was able to change the body he took over on the first to look like himself so freshening up a corpse could be easy.
To add on to this, remember that at the end of 4.0, Zenos all but severed his own head. But when Elidibus took over his body, he simply wore a bandage over his neck and it healed up just fine. It even made his voice a little scratchier than usual while it was healing.
Good lord that opening. Someone must have spoiled that the final boss is the God Porxie. The only one Goog King Moogle Mog XII (may his fluffiness endure for a thousand ages) feared.
I would explain Ardbert’s body not decomposing as the First being so filled with light, the element of stasis, that bodies just simply don’t break down. Just a theory tho
I think an easier explianation would simply be 'creation magics'. Emet outright says he could mould any body into a desired shape so taking an long dead corpse and rebuilding it with flesh would be a pretty simple matter. Hell, we saw Vauthry doing something similar by literally building a palace out of nothing in Mount Gulg so turning the Virtues into fleshed out corpses would probably be pretty easy for him too.
1 thing to help with some of the lore questions, using lore from ARR only. The necklace isnt what allowed Thancred to be possessed, the necklace was what allowed Lahabrea to escape death. He just sorta... caught Thancred with his pants down so to speak, and slipped in lol. The "crystals of darkness" such as that necklace are used by the ascians like a one-way hearthstone to their pocket dimension between material and aetherial realms, which i think Minfilia explained a LONG ass time ago but nobody will blame you for forgetting haha.
19:35 - Necklace not important. Gemstone set in Necklace is. Its similar to the crystal Igeyorhm pulls out to try and escape to the rift. We stop her from being able to use it to flee. It shattering on Thancred simply meant Lahabrea peaced out there. On Shinryu, however, before the fight you have the normal Shinryu, but after Zenos possesses the Primal, it gets a sickly green glow and a Giant crystal on its chest that you beat the carp out of.
The clash between Zenos vs Gaius and Estinien was great, and the following duty where we got to play as Estinien was something I never expected to get, but enjoyed it all the same. The fight with the weapon prototype was such a nice segway into the optional trial later. Also, I think it's funny that both Tataru and Estinien must've been waiting patiently and akwardly for both the WoL and Krile to finish that echo flashback.
Oh, my! What an opening, and what a rollercoaster of emotions. Going from laughs, to tears, and then back to incredolous laughter at "kyle likes what now", before ending with deep and intense ponderings of lore. You guys have outdone yourself again, and the editing was top notch as always! Exited to see what answers you get going forward in the story. :D
So if curious, way back in ARR. A sahajin chief used the power of the echo to not only jump his soul from a dying body, but also took over the living body of another sahajin. Well established in ARR that the echo can be used to take over even living bodies.
I honestly love them circling back around to the gamey plot point of the WoL always taking their entire inventory with them and making it an essential plot point. They went through a lot of trouble to "explain" how stuff like a marketboard or retainer still functions in the First, and even something seemingly minor like that gets a payoff later.
About Shinryu, my running theory is that because it's an empty shell, (it wasn't created with a guiding will of its own and its core, Ilberd, is dead after all, he killed himself to complete the summoning.) Zenos was able to dominate it and take his place.
@@siyrean I think the answer, given some Endwalker reveals, is that a primal that stuck around for long enough might eventually develop a soul. But saying anymore than that would veer into spoilers.
The thing the really helps FFXIV is that they set out rules early on all and if something weird happens, they manage to keep it within those rules and it all makes sense. All while adding on bit by bit as time passes.
Not necessarily (guessing here)... Pure population wise not *everyone* could be a sundered soul (Ascians only had 1/4 their population left that were sundered). Some people could be new souls newly born into the world. Souls are the one thing Ascians had no way to create and were outside their purview. End of 5.0, Emet says "Offer up the remaining inhabitants of the source in sacrifice" ... That would be any who were sundered and rejoined (you aren't *their* friends and family ...different personality, different beliefs), and any non-rejoined population. To try an make up the difference for the people who were sacrificed. But in theory, yes G'raha could be... but this wording in the scene gives more push that not everyone is a sundered soul that gets rejoined, whether intentional or not.
@@jmstover that holds true, if the life stream was not also sundered. And the life stream was pretty darn full at the sundering given how most the world was already dead by the time Zodiark was summoned, if the skybox we see in the Amourot dungeon is anything to go by.
@@siyrean Right, which comes down to interpretation... [ Spoilerish territory below here.... ] . . . . . The skybox would have been the 1/4 of the population that was left over after the sacrifices. The others we know were in a Stasis being held by Zodiark. I'm making an assumption they had a good number for the initial sacrifice instead of running off whoever still happened to be alive. Hence also how Zodiark was immensely more powerful as well. The Amourot dungeon timing is suspect. The 2nd boss area in Amourot dungeon has more bodies lying in it than the same area in a certain cut scene from Endwalker (they do map to same location from what I can tell)... I assume the Life stream was sundered, or each shard created its own life stream naturally post sundering based on the natural aetheric flow. We have 2 brought back from the First to the Source to know they are not connected. This is all conjecture of course. Guessing based on what bits and pieces we've been given, side comments like Beq Lugg's comment, etc... I don't think the dev's have ever stated one way or another how they see it. If they just "forgot" about G'Raha being from post 8th Calamity and everyone there should get another shard added in, etc... So it's total guessing on my part. ;)
When they said we had to think of our friends as possessions I immediately thought that we were going to put their souls into their respective minion since we were given so many throughout msq
An important thing to keep in mind about Zenos is the manner in which he was granted his echo and how it relates to the worlds at large. As you know, the world was fractured into the source and thirteen shards and there have been 7 successful rejoinings which have made the inhabitants of the source roughly 8/14ths the aetheric density of an Ancient. The WoL at this point is 9/14ths because we re-merged with Ardbert's soul. Zenos, by comparison, has been merged with the aetheric energies of possibly 10-20 people which could possibly put him on par with an Ancient or an Ascian. All that he lacked was time and training with his abilities which he has been forced to do by being forcibly separated from his body. We can also look to Fordola to see a weaker version of this same phenomenon in action. Clearly she's very powerful thanks to the experiment done to her but since she only got the Resonant in one of her eyes we can kind of assume that she's easily at least half of what Zenos has become with far less time and training in the use of her abilities. But clearly from her fight against Lakshmi as compared to when she first squared up against us and Lyse she got massively stronger with little to no training and as such if she was to put in some actual training of her Resonant and latent magical abilities she could possibly be close to on par with the WoL or at least the more powerful Scions who have spent their entire lives studying and honing their abilities.
5:04 --- Remember that F'lamin (I wont look up how its spelled - this name is a f**ing nightmare -.- ) already had her good-bye moment in 3.3: we see her in the Rising Stones and hear Minfilia's whisper - and the implied tears of cat-mum (way easiert to spell...). I would say this is the moment when she knows that her daughter wont come back. 10:30 --- Honestly, I didnt pick up on this "nu moe are basically created to be like dogs and serve" playing through, but now that I know, I cant unsee it :D The puns, whether intended or not, have the desired/not desired effect every time you talk with them ^^° 19:09 --- Asciens can inhabit corpses as well as living bodies - living ones are just more difficult to control, hence why only powerful asciens (red masked ones probably) do it. As for Thancred, it wasnt a necklace but a "crystal of darkness" - the same or a similar one we see Ygeyorm (also not looking up that name...) cunjure forth to escape us after we defeat both her and Lahabrea.
Fun little note about the magical explanations that Krile, Urianger, etc. provide that feel similar to Star Trek technobabble: my friends have taken to calling it "aetherbabble" because it's the same level of explanation, just for aether instead of technology
You guys should check out the patch trailers. By all means wait till you've finished the patch first to avoid potential spoilers, but 5.1's is safe now. They started to get really cinematic near the end of Stormblood and now they're just Hype AF. They also give you a good snapshot of what the players got in a patch.
28:20 All the way back in 4.0 when Zenos was introduced he used lots of hunting terminology. And even referred to the soldiers of his legion as his hunting hounds. I think Mr. Robed Man knows Zenos well enough to speak his language and get him interested.
Our friend Emmet already explained all acian bodies; they can shape a body an way they wish, but saving time and energy on clines was a delight to him. So even if the body was decayed, an ascian can shape any other body or probably restore the flesh of a decayed body.
And now I'm caught up on GG's FF14 videos. It's been a content-rich week for me, for sure! Fun F'lhaminn Fact: she's portrayed as in her twilight years, but her "official" age is in her mid-30s. siiiiiiggghhh...
Isn't that partially because she's a famous performer, known across Eorzea? How many Renaissance-era rock star equivalents lived long and prosperous lives? That's also probably why she has the experience and perspective to be accepting of Minfilia's choices, even if they hurt her on a personal level.
Gaius only killed the bodies of Ascians, though he clearly believes that’s all you need to do to kill them cause he fails to understand the true power of the echo.
For lesser Ascians, the sundered ones, they may not have enough grasp on their powers to actually hop bodies properly. So maybe not all of them are gone for good but it's not like his crusade has been entirely pointless.
I believe it was the summoner job quests that cover the black masked ascians in detail. They don't have the power to hop bodies so they always flee when facing death
Good opening! Nice to see them setting up pieces for upcoming Shadowbringers content (typical x.1 MSQ) as well as a few bits getting placed for further out.
True, but doesnt change the fact that is dissapointing how low emotional it was, no mourning. You can make excuse that she came to accept it, but then wouldnt feel earn or consistent.
Since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere in the comments so far, just a little reminder that expansion stories don't wrap up until the X.3 patch, with Endwalker as the exception. So the Shadowbringers story is still ongoing, not yet time to build up towards Endwalker. At least, not obviously...
I do love your theories on what is to come... some of my favorite parts of this game are in the margins where i can just theory craft in my head for months between releases.
My head canon is Beq Luggs voice was so different because she was secluded and not used to talking to people in a long time. Later she's more practiced after having conversations.
5.1 wasn't a terrible wait, 5.2 wasn't bad either, but 5.3 was killer. The lockdown stuff really hit hard and SE did the best they could with what they had but it still took far longer than normal due to everything. A testament to the work and care the team put into this game, as you'll soon find out.
I kinda liked the fact that it was Zenos who prevented the use of the black rose in the end by killing his father and in that preventing the future G'raha Tia witnessed. Zenos literally saved the world cause we gave him bad dreams from the first... xD
My feeling with the Nu Mou and the command words, is that them being faerie makes it not weird. Little rules and tricks like that are common in a majority of faerie stories. Pour a pile of sugar on the ground and they MUST count each single grain, they have no choice, cannot do anything else. The dog stuff with the Nu Mou is in the same line to me.
Lower Ascians are sundered, they dont have power to ascend, or wake up, Ascian in another descendant like unsundered has. Remember what Nabriales said in Sands about his limitations.
In regards to Ardbert's body staying fresh, it certainly wouldn't be the first time a corpse lasted long after it should have turned to dust due to unnatural means. Remember Haldrath? Not to mention that outside of Emet-Selch the Ascians were never really prone to showing their faces, so who's to say?
I'm a little reminded of Haldrath (the first dragoon) his body was revealed to not have decayed for a millennia at the end of 3.0 (before the fight against Thordan), this was due to the dragon's eye, so not the same. But, you'd could consider that the remains of a warrior of light might have special properties maybe?🤔 Either way, putting flesh back on some old bones might be easier than changing one body to look like another.🤔
Bodies decompose because of various conditions on earth, bacteria, heat, moisture, ect. It is postulated without these things bodies would hang around in a near perfect state. Plus what part of magic/ advanced tech don't you understand.

But yeah, hearing Garrett asking for the one solo duty that we knew was coming was a fun one. Hard to not go "Ooohhh, he's gonna be so happy". But then again, there are many cases like that throughout the story.
They. They didn't want to help humans ever again. Fae have no gender.
Yeah I always thought that was really kind of fucked up, us using words of power, that does not jive with my WoL’s personal ethics
@@siyrean kinda agree but also WoL often uses violence and kills people that didn't actually deserve it (like garlean soldiers, they're just conscripts... Or tribe members of various races) So I think doing this "for the greater good" isn't actually that far off from their usual methods
@@Umbrellify fair, we are kinda murder hobos
Behold! A porxie sculpture of eld. Tremble before its glory.
The wait between 5.2 and 5.3 was probably one of the longest due to Covid shutdown and workflows being reorganized for WFH.
About 6 months 😅
That time is how I got all my classes to 80! I almost kinda miss it lol
15:49 fun fact: they made a minion of her that came with the Shadowbringers art book, which is holding a minion version of her husband in her arms in a manner reminiscent of this scene 😂
It's hard to tell if the husband is a mammet, or a rag doll.
The Soul Color thing comes up in the Alchemist job quests. You help make something that makes a person briefly glow the color of their soul, and you actually get to see the color of the WoL's soul. It's pale blue, if you're wondering.
Aether, you find out the colour of the WoL’s aether.
Love when Kyle goes on a theory crafting tangent. Always catches me completely out of left field.
Also giant floppy dog ears
The "Ardbert" reveal this patch made everyone go ballistic. We had to wait 4 months before we had ANYTHING!
That robe is actually obtainable in game as gear, originally Dun Scaith raid loot, and later on as a crafted level 80 set
What the fuck was that intro!!! I am fucking dying laughing! I have tears!! Well done bois! As much as i love the evolution of your journey, the evolution of your videos is just as awesome to witness!
"It was like we'd told her her Girl Scout cookie order was in."
Um, Garrett, I'm pretty sure if we'd told her that her Girl Scout cookie order was in, she would have been ecstatic and jumping around the room, like any normal person would do when finding out that they're getting Girl Scout cookies.
Concerning “not cutting characters in half” I always interpreted one of the last ARR cutscenes to depict just that. The character falls down on their knees (without showing torso) and the next shot is the character falling on their back. Implying the body fell in two different ways.
You never see his whole body together and the last shot of him onscreen has his torso just to the left of the picture so it’s heavily implied that he became two even smaller people 👀
that ardbert scene at the end is so damn good, its like the writers know how to making a moment that players can be like nooo wayy
28:59 "The robe looks quite unique." Me, wearing that robe that I bought off the marketboard: >_>
Whew, can't wait for your reaction and theories during/after 5.2 tomorrow!
What an amazing opening
So if curious, way back in ARR. A sahajin chief used the power of the echo to not only jump his soul from a dying body, but also took over the living body of another sahajin. Well established in ARR that the echo can be used to take over even living bodies.
God Tier Intro. That alone deserves a sub (if I wasn't already a member...)
Just because Garrett has some sort of superpower to recognize chins...
I honestly love them circling back around to the gamey plot point of the WoL always taking their entire inventory with them and making it an essential plot point. They went through a lot of trouble to "explain" how stuff like a marketboard or retainer still functions in the First, and even something seemingly minor like that gets a payoff later.
The boys going full CSI on the new mystery character. To quote the one and only Jesse Cox: "Interesting theory... :) "
33:33 - Truth. That transition always gets me.
Daaaamn, you guys are grasping at every thread like people having to wait months for the next patch! Please keep it up, it's very entertaining!
Mmmmmm, let them cook. Tasty cooking😂
About Shinryu, my running theory is that because it's an empty shell, (it wasn't created with a guiding will of its own and its core, Ilberd, is dead after all, he killed himself to complete the summoning.) Zenos was able to dominate it and take his place.
Yeah I think the question they overlooked is, do primals have souls?
@@siyrean I think the answer, given some Endwalker reveals, is that a primal that stuck around for long enough might eventually develop a soul. But saying anymore than that would veer into spoilers.
What a banger of an intro, i had to watch it twice! now onward with the rest of the video
Awesome opening and interesting theories 😀. Garrett should do a Who's That Chin?? test at the end of each expansion.
The thing the really helps FFXIV is that they set out rules early on all and if something weird happens, they manage to keep it within those rules and it all makes sense. All while adding on bit by bit as time passes.
Graha Tia's soul should be just as dense as yours. He did go through the 8th calamity and survive.
@@siyrean
Right, which comes down to interpretation...
[ Spoilerish territory below here.... ]
.
.
.
.
So it's total guessing on my part. ;)
Can't wait for them to be up to date, so I know right away which theories.. to give a special place in my heart.
When they said we had to think of our friends as possessions I immediately thought that we were going to put their souls into their respective minion since we were given so many throughout msq
love all the editing in this
Whoever did the opening this week outdid themselves, worth the price of the sub on its own
4:49 "There's a flow to it. Pun intended."
I'm sure it was. But there's also more than one pun to be had with that statement.
10:30 --- Honestly, I didnt pick up on this "nu moe are basically created to be like dogs and serve" playing through, but now that I know, I cant unsee it :D The puns, whether intended or not, have the desired/not desired effect every time you talk with them ^^°
19:09 --- Asciens can inhabit corpses as well as living bodies - living ones are just more difficult to control, hence why only powerful asciens (red masked ones probably) do it. As for Thancred, it wasnt a necklace but a "crystal of darkness" - the same or a similar one we see Ygeyorm (also not looking up that name...) cunjure forth to escape us after we defeat both her and Lahabrea.
Checkin in on mah bois. Can't wait for more
Check in tonight for 5.2!
The words Halric said were Tesleen's final words
Your delicious speculation elates and sustains me.
Yes…. Mmmm… delicious cooking…😊
OH my goodness. That intro... All hail clay piggy destroyer of worlds!
Mother I... Halric's first words are also Tesleen's last words.
Oh man that intro is something special.
That's also probably why she has the experience and perspective to be accepting of Minfilia's choices, even if they hurt her on a personal level.
someone said it's because miqote life spans are short but idk abou that 💦
Gaius only killed the bodies of Ascians, though he clearly believes that’s all you need to do to kill them cause he fails to understand the true power of the echo.
@@craigfunk3453 Yeah I meant the Convocation members, who we have already seen be able to use the Echos true power like Igeryohm and Nabriales.
Good opening! Nice to see them setting up pieces for upcoming Shadowbringers content (typical x.1 MSQ) as well as a few bits getting placed for further out.
If you want more F'lhaminn, 5.1 also added a side quest that involves her.
Also, the alchemist job quests, weirdly enough lol
True, but doesnt change the fact that is dissapointing how low emotional it was, no mourning. You can make excuse that she came to accept it, but then wouldnt feel earn or consistent.
@@fredy2041 we see her cry at the end of Heavensward when her soul leaves for the 1st. She’s already mourned her.
I've sent this to several of my friends, some who don't even play ffxiv, just for the intro alone. It belongs in the Louvre.
This whole video had me rolling. There's so much here cant wait for Thursday 😂
OMG that intro! 11/10, no notes.
Lmao the intro. 10/10 would be what happened if we have the next rejoining
My head canon is Beq Luggs voice was so different because she was secluded and not used to talking to people in a long time. Later she's more practiced after having conversations.
I was not expecting that intro, I'll be sure to let my neighbors know who are to blame for the witch-like cackle they endured.
Goodness the editing for Angelo's appearance lol
I kinda liked the fact that it was Zenos who prevented the use of the black rose in the end by killing his father and in that preventing the future G'raha Tia witnessed. Zenos literally saved the world cause we gave him bad dreams from the first... xD
Garrett really wants Zenos to be Vegeta.
God I love it when people talk about Zenos
About Zenos, didn't you forget he is great-grandson to an Ascian?
I do wonder if the body Emet used was kind of ... Influenced by his old body and Zenos inherited some genetic stuff from a literal ascian.
@@Thekingofthenerdz Yeah even if he was using another body it was still Emet's aether and that means unsundered power/aether to his lineage.
I'm pretty sure they've forgotten this and generally how Ascian magic works when it comes to bodies. It's all been explained before.
I forgot about Zenos doing that Ascian teleport thing. So weird.
I’m pretty sure Zenos out right tells us we’re shit at using the Echo in Ala Mhigo 😂
Miqo's having peach fuzz all over their body is mildly disturbing lmao
You guys had way to much fun with that intro
Lower Ascians are sundered, they dont have power to ascend, or wake up, Ascian in another descendant like unsundered has. Remember what Nabriales said in Sands about his limitations.
These speculations are so good
In regards to Ardbert's body staying fresh, it certainly wouldn't be the first time a corpse lasted long after it should have turned to dust due to unnatural means. Remember Haldrath? Not to mention that outside of Emet-Selch the Ascians were never really prone to showing their faces, so who's to say?
Gentlemen...please look forward to it. :)
It's a black and red robe. The flamey bits are red. It's ... I believe a stormblood robe healers can get. So yeah, an actual robe you can wear.
Shinryu is a spiritual being, a primal. They do not have actual bodies
I'm a little reminded of Haldrath (the first dragoon) his body was revealed to not have decayed for a millennia at the end of 3.0 (before the fight against Thordan), this was due to the dragon's eye, so not the same. But, you'd could consider that the remains of a warrior of light might have special properties maybe?🤔
Either way, putting flesh back on some old bones might be easier than changing one body to look like another.🤔
That opening was fantastic 🤣
Dang guys, that intro part really makes me wish there was a :D emote option instead of just a thumbs-up for the video. Well played!
I nearly spat out my food while watching that intro haha
...and THIS little piggy does unmitigatable damage and a minus healing debuff to your main tank, necessitating a swap.
Bodies decompose because of various conditions on earth, bacteria, heat, moisture, ect. It is postulated without these things bodies would hang around in a near perfect state. Plus what part of magic/ advanced tech don't you understand.
