Stock engagement on all year 850s is about 1800. The weight and spring combination in the primary controls peak rpm as well so you won't lose any on top either. In fact most of the QSC kits give a couple hundred more rpm to get you closer to the top of the peak rpm power band.
Did my clutch Thursday night, and went out to clean up the shop on Friday morning, and what do I find on the bench,,,, that stupid plastic bushing from the 2 min mark,,, so back apart it comes....
Larry Curci I just had all 4 screws that hold the helix on break off leaving me stranded after doing this clutch kit exactly as you did in this video. I used blue loctite. What loctite did you use? I have very little time on the machine with the clutch kit.
Have you had much problems with temps and belt life on the scrambler 1000’s? The ol man has one with 27” zillas and any time spent under hard load blows belts.
Will this give a noticeable difference in engagement without raising rpm, stock engagement is too soft for me. It feels like the belt is slipping when I pin it from a stop, just kind of a boggy feel off the line.
So if you go with more shims to get the higher stall will that affect how smoothly you can takeoff? Will it be more jerky? I am going to be running 27 inch tires and want it to wheelie pretty good but also ride my son around so I don’t want it to be to jerky taking off
I have an 2013 850 scrambler with 26x8x14 26x10x14 tires...i noticed this customer went up to 27's with the clutch kit. If i go with 27's do i need a clutch kit or would i be ok with stock clutching?
Great video. I have 2010 550 xp and wanting to Run an aggressive 28-30 inch tire for mud. What kit do you recommend and would the installment be similar to this? I know you said they're a little different as far as how the springs are compressed
Hi Ryan, So at around 1:20, I see you took off the face plate on the Primary Clutch to access the spring and weights without taking off the clutch itself. Is there a lot of pressure from the spring on the Primary Clutch? Can this also be done on a 2017 Polaris Sportsman 570 EPS? I like the fact of not needing a clutch puller and just changing the spring and weights on the Primary Clutch while it's still on the bike.
Got my answer from RVS Performance :) I don't have to take off the Primary Clutch to replace the spring and weights so follow the same procedure as in the video!!
Thank you RVSPerformance. Yes the entire install was very smooth and the Performance Gain is well worth the $ spent. I ended up using just the thin shim and can do wheelies in Low Gear (Happy Grin on Face).
hey man, nice vid thanks. I'm curious what clutching I should run on my stock 850 scrambler with 29.5 terminators. Also, I found a chunk missing on the primary clutch cover plate.. Bike runs and shifts fine.. How can I replace it without buying a whole new assembly?
I'm confused on the engagement does want the engagement at a lower rpm or a higher rpm?? like say you just put the springs in without the shims will the clutches engage faster or slower??
You can order directly from our web site at RVSperformance.com or you can call and order over the phone at 651-500-0657 8-6 central time Mon-Sat. These kits are custom built for each machine, mods, and use and are in stock ready to ship.
I also have a question on these shims, so from my understanding you're saying with both shims in my machine won't move until I'm around 2400 rpm? I have a 2018 and it idles at 1250. And would you recommend no shims 1 or both. My typical riding style would be mud, mostly water and trails. No racing.
Excellent video! Installed your clutch kit today and this video made it easy

Joe, It is very similar to the 570s. If you don't have ebs then the spring install on the secondary is different, but same basic idea.
Jeremy, a shop press will work just fine. Just don't get carried away. It's only about 100lbs of pressure on the spring, not tons.

Nice Job Ryan
Any video on how to align the clutches on these xp sportsman machines?

Great video! Very informative, was just wondering the torque spec on the primary cover center bolt? Is it 38lbs like the secondary? Thanks
Chris Gardner 45 ft lbs
Typical gains we see are 1 - 1 1/2 machine lengths in 500-600' against a stock machine.

Does this apply to the 2015 850 and also wondering if you offer a helix to eliminate/ reduce the engine braking ?
Same for the 15 850 as well. No helix available for them yet, but will have something in a couple months. Just got castings in.

Mega mayhems from ITP!
Is there an issue if I use my shop press to do the secondary clutch? Assuming I'm careful.

None of the ATV primaries have much spring pressure like a snowmobile. Any o them can easily and safely have the cover removed without much effort.

Does clutch engagement RPM effect top speed?
How many lengths does this add in a speed run if your drag racing?
I'm confused on the engagement does want the engagement at a lower rpm or a higher rpm?? like say you just put the springs in without the shims will the clutches engage faster or slower??
No shims is the lowest engagement
Hey....I have a sortsman 1000 and I plow with it and I is very hard to shift it from low gear to rev. Can you lub the one way bearing?
Yes, they can be removed and serviced with some new grease.
hey guys where can i get this kit? i have the same bike and would like that clutch kit thanx

Is this the same for a 2018 highlifter 850?
Yes other than a little more disassembly to get the snorkel tubing off to get the cover off.
the only difference in the 09-10 machines is the helix is not under spring pressure. there is a spring cup under it held in by a snap ring.
Is the 2016 Polaris Sportsman 1000xp the same design?
Yes 2011 up are all the same design
