Having a ball that last longer is not necessarily a good thing. Some players will hang on to a ball way past its playing prime becoming slick and possibly out of round. Hard to spin a slick ball like you would a new one.

Although there are rules on putting substances on the rubber there is nothing about the ball so in theory you could sand it a little. I’m not condoning this, it’s just an observation. I’ve tried it on a ball with fine sand paper and it makes it much grippier

More importantly which balls play better for ox pimples? Since the introduction of plastic long pimples have become uncompetitive except in lower league divisions and one has to be a lot more aggressive with the flat rubber to win a point. However you do find some balls play a little better than others. They must be made to different specs even though from the same factory. Any advice on the best ball for ox pimples? I find a lot of the heavier harder balls are terrible for spin reversal. You’ve only got to think about kicking a leather football (showing my age there) against a garage wall and when it was new it would be slow and heavy. Once you’d worn the surface down it would react more. Be interesting to see if there are any differences as the lighter ones will spin more. A ball has to weigh between 2.67 and 2.77grms. I wonder how much difference that 0.1grm makes?
