I'm perplexed with this whole HOA debacle, I live in Scandinavia and we have HOAs but it's a community and everyone works together to better the community, these examples floating around are just ridiculous, people getting fined 1000s of dollars for parking to many cars, boards members jumping fences to document "discrepancies" in the neighborhood. Wth is going on!? 😅

They aren't really bullies. They just enforce the rules of the community which everyone purchasing a home in such a community has to agree to. HOAs are important to have if you own a home and want it to keep its value.

I cannot think of a single reason to live in an HOA community.
I used to live in an HOA. But it was a mellow HOA by comparison. Dues were $250 annually and the only thing they really enforced were things like front yards full of trashed cars and weeds a foot high.
Because ALL KARENS flock together.
The people on these HOA boards are the same ones that were the mean girls and bullies in the gym we all knew in high school, now all grown up. Still liking to push people around.

Im on an HOA, we save our residents a lot of money and we keep the community up to the standards as they were when you would buy in so you don't lose property value because some idiot paints his house purple and green.

Call the damn police. Get a police report and talk to your DA about pressing charges. Courts are starting to take these HOA violations seriously now that people can record their own evidence.
Without a lawsuit against her for her actions, she will use the HOA to make your life hell.
It is very difficult to prevail in a suit against an HOA. I have been on our HOA for ten years and we have never lost a law suit.

The HOA Karen in this video needs to mind her own business.
What she should be doing is writing him a violation letter. This usually comes with a fine or legal fee (ours is $250). You can mediate the violation but if it is a clear violation of HOA rules and regs. you will most likely lose. Then, if you persist after the mediator finds against you, the HOA can begin the process of suing you which can result in very high legal fees (we recently sued a resident for around $10,000 in legal fees). If you don't pay that, then the HOA and file a lien against your house and eventually foreclose on it.

So my brother built a split rail fence in front of his home. He got the letter. No fences in front of property. Sent letter back saying it was a trellis for the roses he was about to plant. A trellis is permitted. Think outside the box.
Why is she getting involved like that. The proper thing to do, if his sign violated HOA regulations is to send him a violation letter.
Why anyone wants to live in a community that's controlled by HOA's is beyond me. Move out in country folks.

If she's on camera and reported to police already for theft, it doesn't matter if she's an HOA board member or not, she does have to give her name to police and she can be detained and charged.
I live down the road from an HOA. We have a friend that lives there and he told us that he has to get permission to cut down a tree that is obviously dead.

My neighborhood has an hoa and they just raised our yearly dues 70% claiming nflation was the reason. I am not paying this ungodly amount.
This is why you don't hand a blank check in terms of what someone can do on your private property. HOA's became a thing because at one point some nosy neighbor didn't like someone parking on the street or they didn't like the way you decorated your own house. Eventually some of these people riding roughshod over people's rights will end up in prison.

Bought a new house 2016 with an HOA..never had any issues..reasonable dues $350 a year. Houses average low $200k. BTW I live 50 miles outside Houston Texas. If I had a board like that I would work tirelessly to replace them
