I was inspired by Christina to photograph my entire wardrobe using Indyx. It has been amazing for helping me “shop my closet” vs. buying new clothes and styling new outfits. 🥰 It took time & patience to do all the work to get my wardrobe properly photographed, but the exercise has done wonders for helping me appreciate the abundance of what I already own. Creating new outfits is so much fun, and I find I am using so much more of what I have. Thank you, Christina! And thank you too, Alyssa and Signe. I really enjoy all of your podcasts & RUclips.

I had a style rut after a shoulder injury which made it very difficult to manoeuvre into clothing, particularly bikinis and bras. Luckily I have almost fully recovered but it took over a year and was frustrating as well as very painful.
Whereas my cat has worn the same black velvet suit for over 8 years and still looks stylish 🐈‍⬛

Nailing down a morning routine is a huge factor in feeling good. My non-negotiable with myself is getting up at 5am so that I have nearly two hours to myself in the morning before my husband & four kids get up & we start our day. I spring out of bed because I look forward to uninterrupted 'me time'. I relax with a coffee & do my makeup while watching a few RUclips videos, I journal, I meditate, I get myself ready for work. I feel totally at ease because once the kids are up getting ready for school etc I don't feel rushed any more. I spend about half an hour on a Sunday evening planning out work outfits for the week ahead, hanging everything together that I'll need &ironing anything that needs to be done, so all my outfit decisions are made & I don't have to struggle each morning. Finding a routine that works for you is a game changer & definitely helps avoid the style rut.

When my daughter was in her third trimester and still working but down to just a few well worn outfits, I picked her up a pair of nice basic leggings and a cute basic top. It gave her such a boost and since new moms know your tummy takes a while to go down again, she wore them for quite a while after. It might seem like an unnecessary splurge so late in pregnancy, but so worthwhile.

Being y'all mums age, plz can you tell your viewers about your growing up?, how did you get interested in clothes? And what, if anything, you learned from your mums pertaining to fashion, style, etc. Would be a great episode! Christina I admire you for having also a “real“ profession👍👍way to go

I’ve organised my closet like a boutique as Alyssa has recommended in previous content. I always pack clothes away or put them in the laundry so it encourages me to choose something fresh. I choose a jewellery capsule and a makeup collection every few weeks and rotate my handbags. I do get into a rut with my footwear purely because of comfort.

Planning my outfits and dressing up for small seemingly insignificant things such as errands, food shopping, coffee and croissants etc. These activities make sure the wardrobe is being used and working its cost per wear quota. Plus I feel better , more energetic and happy.

My rut is due to weight gain. I feel frumpy in clothes, or they don’t fit. If I have a particular situation (eg work, needing comfort, seasons like you mentioned) where fewer clothes are appropriate, I feel the limited choice. I plan my outfits weekly but even that can feel like a chore. I have to force myself to accessorise at all, but I feel so much more stylish when I do, esp. when I vary them. It’s the same with makeup/manicure. I also make sure my wardrobe has a good choice of colours because I’m aware I go through phases of having one fave colour then getting sick of it unless I regulate myself.

I agree with all of you. Signe, I have a daughter so I feel you. Christina, i have all these great ideas on how I want to wear my clothes more than once but i find myself wearing the same old the same ways. Alyssa, I have too much much and constantly decluttering so that I can function better. Great episode ladies! ❤😊

Hi ladies, another great topic, another great podcast. Style rut has two dimensions in my case.
First I am a mom on maternity leave (and in my country it lasts until the baby is three years old) so jeans, t-shirt and a jumper or cardigan are my daily choices. So practicality is key and I always have to consider the activities I am doing during the day. So dresses, skirts and anything light is out of the question mostly. However, listening to your podcast regularly I am trying to spice my rather boring outfits with the use of different textures, adding accessories, hair and make up. Also I do use Indyx to have an overview of what I wear the most.
The second dimension to the style rut is I am always sick of autumn/winter clothes in spring and I can't wait for the weather to get warmer so I can pack away all those heavy knits and boots.

For me, starting the day with "me time" and gratitude sets the tone for having a positive attitude when I'm choosing my outfits. I'm retired and go to the gym several days a week, though, so it can be tricky getting myself out of those gym clothes when I get home if I'm not planning to go back out again.

I always only use my nice cloths on special occasions but everything that I do when anyone can see me is considered an occasion. That way my cloths will last much longer and it becomes more sustainable and cheaper! I do edits once a month and use different colours for different months. So one or two colours are going out and one or two going in! It makes my wardrobe change over the year together with the different cloths in different seasons.

I, too, am a sleep-in/hurried morning person… I put together a few days worth of outfits on Indyx so that I don’t have to “pick” in the moment. And that’s been super helpful!

I was in a major style rut in the summer, because I wasn’t loving my summer clothes! But most of the time my seasonal capsules help me avoid this, putting some clothes away for awhile really helps me appreciate them again!

I don’t like deciding what to wear every single day so on Sunday afternoon I choose three outfits I am excited to wear that week, and then just do grab and go the rest of the week. Often it inspires me to up my accessories with the grab and go outfits, but if not, at least I had three days of outfits I am happy about.

My rut is driven by weight loss. My clothes are begining to hang on me and I'm not ready to invest in new ones just yet. So I'm stuck wearing the few that sort of fit because to buy now would be buying clothes I'm not drawn to.

Not sure if tailoring is an option, but taking things in might give new life to your current pieces. You could see if the tailor can alter in a way that preserved the original size, so if you pass it on, the next owner could have the alterations reversed.
It's a bit of a financial investment to get tailoring done but it would help with the transition until you want to / are able to update for your current size

I always try to identify things I love but am not wearing as much - as Alyssa suggests - and then hang them where they are visible. Sometimes I try different combos, but I need to do more of this creative styling! The videos you all three share help me think of new combos, which I then write down on a To Try list.

I‘m in a style rut because I turned 50 in September. Somehow I wanted a more adultish look and bought a lot of stuff to get there but now I’m realizing that I cannot push myself into something I’m not. Another problem is that I love cozy sweaters so much but because of menopausal cause I feel like dying in them. I always feel overheated.🥵

I get ya. I run warm most of the time now (in my 60s) so every top layer (sweaters, jackets, button-up shirts) has to be something I can take off easily and not completely ruin the look. Beneath them I usually wear something sleeveless or short-sleeved. Between that and my size (petite height and athletic build) it's pretty hard to feel "stylish".

I have slowly switched my sweaters to cotton. Cotton blend. Allows me to have the comfy sweater feel without overheating.

When I feel in a style rut, I watch videos about styling, it now triggers my creativity. As soon as I see an idea that i like, I pause and go to my closet. I have seen a lot about belting a blazer as a styling tool but I don't wear blazers and the other day one woman was belting her jean jacket and I immedaitely tried it and it worked. I also tried it on another jacket and even a short light black trenchcoat and it was an Eureka moment for me!!! I also try things right away if I see an Instagram inspiration....
