Even Dabi himself has repressed his real feelings and needs so thoroughly that he himself doesn’t know what he's feeling anymore. You can’t take him at face value, not through his actions or his words, cause he's got all that pain intertwined so deeply that it took 'til 389 for him to hallucinate what he really wanted. When he was a kid he was easier to see through (Rei called him out perfectly with that "do you really want to be a hero" business) but he traded in an education for being a pro at concealing his thoughts. So. The song choice, with lines like "where is the real me?" fits perfectlyyyy I'm drooling over how amazing it is.
