Loch Ness Monster Tunnel Finally Revealed, and You'll Be Amazed! 🐉 🔦

  • It's a shame that it has come to this! Back in the day, the Loch Ness Monster tunnel had; mist, strobe lights, a sound track, and a lighted serpent to go with! I hear so many RUclipsrs say that this is their least favorite part of the ride, and I agree, IT IS! Alone, (as of 11-06-22 and the long remembered past), it's just a descending helix loop into the dark abyss. That's cool for the first quarter of the helix maybe, but the effects that used to be there would carry the theme of "Nessie" with it throughout the entire 20 plus or minus seconds of the helix, making it the complete legendary ride that it is!
    But anyway, I digress. This is all you get now, an illuminated shell of what was once a well themed tunnel in the most iconic modern day steel roller coaster of all time! Don't even get me started on both trains not simultaneously going through the interlocking loops!
    My hopes are that this POV will shed some "light" on the theming problem.
    But I suppose according to John B. Roberts, General Manager of The Old Country, (now Busch Gardens); “There has never been anything like it. For openers, it’s the tallest and fastest coaster-style ride with the steepest drop in the world … and the only one with interlocking loops. On top of that, part of it’s in total darkness.” This quote has not been proven or denied yet, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
    But if it IS true, I, myself don't remember it like that because I'm not THAT old, but if true, then maybe they just went back to the roots on this one. If there is anyone out there that is about 56, please let me know.
    Either way, I prefer the theming over the darkness.
    Should BGW bring back the theming inside the tunnel? Go here and cast your vote... • Post

    I can't even guess how many times I rode this during my decade working in entertainment at BGW. I recall in '91 doing a commercial shoot for the coast in which we (various employees) road it for about an hour straight, pretending like we were having fun after the 15th time and dressed for summer in February. Big Bad Wolf was my favorite at the park, and I part of the opening day stuff with Drachen Fire, but Loch Ness remains a rock solid coaster that I always enjoy seeing again after so many years. And yes, although I do recall the earlier effects, this was the first time I've seen the inside like that during a ride. THANKS!

      @drachenwolf  Год назад +1

      Yeah, I don't know exactly when they removed it, but I believe it was located near the end of the tunnel at the bottom of the cave. I remember it being huge, so it probably was right underneath the part of the helix before you exit. I'm glad you brought that up, I need to put that in the description.

      @@drachenwolf I actually am old enough to remember when it was still there. They also piped in roars and growls as well as mist. For the time it was an impressive bit of theming. You used to be able to look down the hill from the station at the helix cave and see that mist rolling out of the cave mouth..
      It's too bad some psycho nutbag filed a lawsuit claiming there was a caustic chemical in the mist that had given her a bad skin reaction. She lost the case but it was enough for BG to pull the mist machines to prevent further legal incidents.

    I like the tunnel regardless because I always forget it's coming and it gives a great multidimensional quality to a ride that could have relied too heavily on the interlocking loops. The aspects going through the woods and the tunnel, even the second lift, make it a more interesting and longer ride, esp. at certain times of day/night

    I rode this a few years back, for the first time. Oddly, since I am about to turn 54 and BG is relatively local to me. There were literally no lines to get on the ride. I imagine the deleted features are related to maintenance and supply costs. At least it is still operating, which is fairly amazing in itself, considering the ride is approaching 45-years-old.

    They used to have a sea monster lit in lights for the majority of the length of the tunnel many years back. It made the tunnel so much more interesting. Just based on your video description; I reckon that you can't see the interlocking trains anymore due to safety requirements having drastically changed. While not knowing the specifics in this instance based on what I've seen the coaster does not have the required block sections to support this with today's safety requirements. If this is the case then it's a true shame ,cause it would look amazing.

    It baffles and annoys me that amusement parks think they can get away with broken features/effects on rides, especially Disney, these parks make a ton of money so in my opinion there is no excuse why any effect should ever be broken for more than a week! Get it fixed, ASAP.
    I guess they assume that nobody will notice or care, or they think there's an acceptable level of features that can be broken before people complain. Maybe this is more aimed at dark rides, but yeah it just really p's me off! Either way it's just dumbing everything down - if parks could get away with it they'd not bother installing any rollercoasters at all and just give you a motion simulator and/or a VR headset. Or something like the Fast and Furious "ride", but for EVERY attraction!!
