    I remember some years ago now, I had just move into a new place in a suburb called South Yarra in Melbourne. I was about 3 to 5 kms away from the Grand Prix track. On the first day of practice in 1996 I think it was, I had the tv on with the sound down and the windows open. I will never forget the sound. I couldn’t believe how loud it was! Would they have been the V10s?

    The first time I heard an F1 car at full chat was a V10 (f1 testing at Silverstone when it was free in the 00s!) These are "my" era of car
    3 things jump out from this video.
    1) Harrison is driving quickly, but no locked brakes, no real moments. He's clearly handy, but the thing is just glued to the track!
    2) I know old F1 cars can be picked up for less than £200K or so. Lets assume about the same for engine and transmissions tyres etc. Always wondered how much a day like this costs their owners. Transport of the car, a team of expert people to run it (In Neweys case, the excellent Paul Lanzante and team) tyres fuel etc Much change out of £30K a day?
    Not horrific given that
    3) I bet this thing is the biggest adrenaline dump you can have on 4 wheels! 😂

      I believe most of the now privately owned F1 cars are run much below their actual limits in order to preserve the engine. Even the F1 cars run by Ferrari's FXX Clientele tend to run about 8/10ths. I'm sure that's more than enough for most blokes driving them too.

    • @ciaronsmith4995
      @ciaronsmith4995 2 года назад +2

      Yes but those tyres were developed in a tyre war, so despite the slicks, they performed far greater in all areas than any slick Pirelli tyre today. Perfect front grip, perfect warm up, perfect deg patterns. It was the peak of F1 pure performance.

    Isn't it funny the b196, b197 were not competitive in the same way as b194,b195 They still had Renault V10s power. But when Schumacher left success also left. Then he goes to Ferrari and success returned to Ferrari first season. Long before benneton staff followed him there

    • @MrPaddy5526

      Happens when a good driver and two ok drivers swap seats. Alesi and Berger just weren’t good enough to drive the for Schumacher designed Benetton.
      Who knows, maybe Schumacher could’ve been in contention for the title in the 95 Ferrari too, we’ll never know

    • @speedmann194
      @speedmann194 2 года назад

      @@MrPaddy5526 I think Schumacher could just feel the car better then all others, he said he found it hard to drive as well, I think he could just adapt around a cars flaws better then others. Because he showed his talent again with a under performing Ferrari 96. I actually read a article where there was a test late 95 Berger and Schumacher swapped seats and Berger said bennetons b195 handling he found very poor compared to his Ferrari.
      Schumacher must've been special "software" because you go through bennetons history he is the only one that had great success, 94,95 all Michaels team mates scored 56 points altogether between them , Michael scored 92 points 94 season alone, and was disqualified from 4 races, the guy was special.
