I worked with someone who had been traumatized because she was raped by 5 military officers. She said they verbalized that she deserved it. I don't ever thank anyone in the military for their service just because one of my friends was in the military for 20 years, and talked about a lot of situations involving his peers in immoral situations. Not rape of course.

As a woman in the military, it was mind blowing to hear a man recognize that there is sexism in the military because so many of them hotly dispute this topic. It is so PREVALENT. No matter how qualified you are you are still looked down upon. I am getting out after my many enlistments because of this..
We have a SERIOUS problem with misogyny in this world & especially in the u.s. Empathy, compassion, altruism are seen as weakness. It's disgusting & prob connected to why most mass shootings etc are done by men.

As a fellow veteran I was really patriotic when joining. But then as the years went on and seeing how the military ran and the rampant racism, sexism, homophobia, etc in it is what gradually ate away and destroyed most of my patriotism. It's very ironic that the most patriotic organization took most of my patriotism.

These may be questions no one has ever bothered to ask them, and you would consider it with eagerness and newfound gratitude when it comes to you suddenly. But I'm also sure there are plenty of people in between who gave shorter answers or declined to answer at all.

It’s cuz people rarely get an opportunity to express the deepest parts of themselves. When given even the slightest opportunity, they’ll take full advantage of it. Especially those who are hurting. It can be a way for them to vent or be a cry for help.

Like thank you for owning that and being so candid about it. You wanting to be better and openly talking about your part in being sexist is so validating to women who are constantly dismissed or made to feel like its “not a thing anymore”.

You’re a better person for it and it means literally so much to hear someone own it the way you did, not sugar coated in any way. As someone who walked a long road to self-acceptance and genuine self-love, I wish I could start an intervention boot camp for people like Vengeance Girl with the cheating partners. It's heartbreaking to hear her outlook and rationalization of her chaotic and venomous relationships. Such a painful way to go through life. Because it's not just about those particular relationships, it's about your entire understanding of love and trust -- friends, family, teachers, coworkers, strangers....everyone will fall under suspicion of being potentially unsafe. How much time is she devoting to herself and enjoying all the things in life that have nothing to do with partners, like her own hobbies, interests, education, relationship with nature, etc etc? Her life is slipping away and she can't even see it.
She will chose the same kind of deceitful people over and over. She seems to understand the karma of vengeance at least but, that alone isn't action to stop the cycle. I don't believe in revenge. I really don't. I think there should be consequences and punishment for crimes/breaking rules but, in a relationship I don't think it's EVER healthy to assign punishment and the only thing that can ever come of it is more anger, pain, resentment, guilt and paranoia. Not to mention, a good-hearted, trustworthy man likely won't ever trust a woman he knows has a heart that seeks revenge, even when he knows he would never intentionally harm her. I certainly would never date a man I know retaliated against women in his past.
Thank you for including older people. We become invisible at 40 and are treated like we were never young and we have no value. 💜💜💜

The vet really struck a chord with me. I was in the army, it was supposed to be my dream job for the rest of my life. I was sexually harassed at every posting, from multiple different men. Looked at like meat, I had to do PT alone, because I had people come up to me and make obscene remarks like "you have a nice ass, can you workout in front of me?". I worked so hard to pull my own weight, not get romantically or sexually involved with anyone I worked with, it didn't matter. It threw me in a deep depression, and eventually, however bittersweet, I left what was once my dream job because I could even stand people looking at me at that point.
This is so sad, I'm so sorry that your dream job wasn't at all what you thought it would be or could be. I hope you are healing and growing, it sounds like an awful experience. Sending love

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I've read about the mistreatment of women in the military. And that higher ranking soldiers are no help. What a damn shame!!
Im in the final year of my contract now and thank god. Ive had a similar experience. Multiple SHARP cases, being treated like crap emotionally and physically, NCOs not caring or thinking its “being blown out of proportion.” Didn’t help that my old company didn’t have a single female NCO. Uhg im so ready to be done. Every woman I have ever met in the military has dealt with sexual harassment or worse. Not one has yet been like “no thats never happened to me.”

I use a version of this sentiment often in D&I meetings when trying to explain implicit vs explicit bias. Don’t feel guilty sir. The fact that you now know, and are aware of, your wrongdoings means that you’ll strive to do better going forward. It’s also empowering that you’re willing to share you were complicit in harmful behaviors, but not to brag but to inform others how doing so was harmful to yourself as well as your female colleagues. It’s admirable that you’re willing to admit you were wrong, take accountability and now continue to educate yourself and others. Thank you ❤ In my opinion, the words you spoke makes me wish you were still a marine! Your candor, mindset and attitude are those of a leader that could do a lot of good!
Kudos and continued bravery to the woman who reclaimed control of her religious life. That is probably no easy task, especially since she's coming from a family and likely larger community where breaking away is a no-no. Stay strong, friend! It's your life and no one else's.
Something I don't tell a lot of people, is I didn't lose my virginity till I was 26. And I lost it to my first ever girl that I loved. I'm 34 now, and I still love her, we have 2 amazing children. We are not together, but I cannot see myself loving another girl. She means the world to me.

Most of them, I could believe. The marine talking about being encouraged to dislike women is something one of my good friends who was a marine spoke about. He struggled significantly because he was raised by a single mother and could not process why it was acceptable to treat women that way.
Maybe its just some state that does that, maybe its dependant on the leader at that training? It's not all marine training like that rit

It's very true. My daughter's longtime bf joined the military after a yr apart they decided to get married so she could be with him in different places. It turned out to be a nightmare. He became mean & aggressive. He would talk about how they would scream at the guys that their wives or gf's were home f'in other men. They did this to make them angry to work harder. Unfortunately this rolled over into their home lives. It's terrible. I've lost so much respect for our government. Not necessarily the soldiers. There is a reason they get them young so they can be easily broken down & wired the way the military wants. But what happens when the military is done with them? Suicide, d.violence, homelessness. It's sad.
As a woman, the second guy has all my respect. It's hard to realize and accept that you are (in your eyes) a "bad person". but self reflection means you can GROW! being ashamed of your past self means you've improved. We are all improving ourselfs at our own pace.

The story oft he woman talking about vengeance makes me feel so sad. And I think it's less about what happened to her (which is already horrible enough) but about how she deals with her pain. I guess it's my personal decision that vengeance is not healthy for me and giving pain to others is not an answer to me. It feels destructive and not positive in any way for any person. I
think the question you're asking about whether she sometimes thinks, she DOESN'T feel better, is really really strong and it resonated with what I was thinking before. The way she answers, saying that deep inside she still feels lonely, makes me tear up. I honestly would like to belive that she found a way for herself that makes herself feel healthy but I'm afraid I just don't. Maybe it's just me projecting my personal opinion on her, but to me she doesn't seem happy deep inside with what she is doing...
I hope that one day she learns that vengeance, hate, revenge won´t lead her anywhere.

It‘s this mask of look at how ‚strong‘ I am, how heartless and ruthless I become.
But for me being strong means, choosing to open you heart despite all the reasons the world and people around us give us to keep closing.
I also don‘t think that revenge is ever a good thing, it will keep you eating up alive inside and lead to diseases if not processed.
And oh boy did I process my unpleasant emotions too. But never did I involve another person. But definitely many momenta of writing letters and imaginary talking to a tree that represented the person I was angry with. Burning and Breaking stuff. Screaming my lungs out. Dancing and moving my body to remove the stagnant energy.
But this all also happened after I got hurt and then until to hurt others because I was hurt, until I realized I‘m just prolonging the pain in myself and others as well.
I hope she finds peace and forgiveness for her own peace of mind!
It's interesting that people haven't acknowledged the fact that she said she struggles with her actions in terms of Karma. I think she's about to make some serious change in her life. The way others treat you is their business but the way you respond to it is Yours 🕊️❤️

@@TheElectricitychick I think what's truly 'icky' is being part of a community that's focused around acceptance and forgiveness to only take away from the communities core and deny the forgiveness of someone's peers. Yes, he specified he spoke badly of women in the military but it was his view of women as a whole and their value that has truly changed. I understand what you're trying to say and yes, to be truly forgiven for the physical wrongdoings, its those directly affected he needs the forgiveness of, BUT its the progress he has made and the journey he has gone through to get to that point is what should be celebrated and who he was then and the views he HAD is what I assume bad was offering her forgiveness for. It not just at face value.

I was SA multiple times over the course of six months at 16. I have, to the best of my ability forgiven those men. They were teens too and they were of a different race than me. They were responding to social pressure that was far older than us, and the weight of history too. It only makes my life better to forgive.

I feel the same way with the ex religious lady. It will take some time to remove that guilt. It’s hard to reconstruct our beliefs, values, etc. from the ground up again. Looking at life’s pov in other angles can help us realize other things, and feel more at peace with ourselves. Cheering for you 🥂
I am a woman and I actually just got discharged from the military. It was my plan all through high school to join and I was so excited. I was supposed to be in for 4 years and I felt like my safety was compromised and left in 2.5 years. One of the main reasons was the harassment. A lot of people made me feel like my reason wasn’t good enough and I should just push through. Hearing the second guy validate how I felt made me feel a lot better about my decision. The military wasn’t good for me either.
I am not 100% sure how the military works. Isn't the psihological stress a part of the training? I imagine in the military they don't want people with too high moral standards, they want soldiers that listen to orders and then die because the enemy won't be asking nicely to kill you. Can that be a reason why they don't really care about being nice?
@@TheMelopeus most military jobs are not front line combat positions. Yes the military teaches you how to deal with enemies, but the enemies you’re dealing with shouldn’t be the people right next to you. I was a woman in the military as a heavy gunner, and the people around me that were my fellow military members were more dangerous to me than any enemies I would’ve faced.

When you know a person be-it a coworker, church goer, barista, clerk, crossing guard; there is fear and judgment and fear of judgment on both parties.
Stranger to stranger communication can be so so much more raw that people tend to show a genuine self without fear of not being what the other wants them to be but to just be.

“I lost my compass” is such an eloquent way to express feeling lost. I’ve experienced that with becoming a mother. I love my kids more than life but in becoming their mother I’ve lost myself and who I was. Something I plan to deeply reflect on.

Going to the junkyard for parts depresses me. I feel like cars are a metaphor for people. Our bodies are vehicles to the souls that are in the driver's seat. My last destination was in Poland during the war, I was a young elementary student (girl).
I can already relate to the elderly woman in the beginning as a person that struggles with clinical depression & severe ptsd whom has a mother that's a cna as I've been so interested to study about mental health. I do my best to leave the house on a daily basis as I also struggle with social anxiety & agoraphobia and being out in the sun is a wonderful feeling regardless of how hot it gets here in Arizona which makes me blissful to being born here as I would've felt very suicidal if I lived in Seattle for example.
Just thought I could share how I felt.

I actually feel bad for the girl that says she is vengeful because I see the pain in her eyes. I just hope she is kind to herself & towards other women. Cheating is terrible but she deserves love and happiness. She is gorgeous and it sucks how many people normalize cheating. I hope she heals and finds a healthy relationship.

The woman who was so open about her past being an addict and an abuser was so brave. Warms my heart to hear stories of people finding a healthy path after those sorts of mistakes. It's not easy to admit your flaws and mistakes, but it takes an even more brave person to overcome them and grow.

I feel similarly with musical instruments, I see them as objects obviously, but when I play, fix or modify them? you bet imma call 'em my "baby", my "King", or my marvelous "queen" or a bunch of other personal terms.... I consider them so much! they're like separate parts of our bodies. they can make us express so much we as humans cannot do on our own.. and having them and playing them makes us so much more than we are! I have a homemade electric Bass, I made her on my own, from scratch, and I love her!! almost as much as I'd love my children, if I had any :') (the feels) But listening to this beautiful woman talk about her cars really made my day!! I completely relate to stranger number 2. I wasn’t in the military but I too lived such a toxic male life before coming out. I feel so horrible about who I was but now am so happy with the person I am becoming. Tbh I honestly don’t know if I could ever forgive myself for the hurt I’ve caused. It’s something I have to live with forever.

The back to back to back confessions from Latinos is SO ACCURATE. People judge us by how we look but there’s so many white passing Latinos or darker skin Latinos & multi ethnic Latinos. People always wanna judge us by whether we speak Spanish or not, by our accent, or just trying to categorize us by stereotypes of what they think we should be when we aren’t a monolith. A lot of Americans don’t get that because they don’t want to understand that we aren’t some Mexican stereotype.
The only ones judging you are OTHER LATINOS, I hope you know that. My adopted son is from Honduras and he gets treated great by everyone, except by latinos. Other latinos hate on him so much for being raised by a white family. He sometimes watches latino shows and almost every person on the show looks white. Maybe your community should look inside itself and start the cleanup process. My son acts very strange and uncomfortable around other latinos and I really do hate that for him. It's very sad to me. I've also noticed that women bring each other down. Why do we hate on our own? Is everyone jealous or just hateful? I will never understand.
Latino's can be white. And Spaniards are white Europeans who speak Spanish. Not every Spanish speaking person is mixed

I want to hug that second guy. As a woman who is a veteran, who has experienced sexism, sexual harassment and sexual assault multiple times in the military, it is really relieving to hear someone say they wish they hadn’t been discriminatory. It gives me hope that those who were towards me and my friends have the ability to change. I want to hug that guy and tell him not to feel like a creep, that he’s changed and that’s beautiful and so incredibly priceless.

I find it interesting how certain people reflect on how their actions affected other people (like the guy in the military who treated women poorly) and how others only reflect on how their actions affected themselves (like the lady who went to jail for pulling a knife on her girlfriend).

The retired nurse practitioner really got me when she said she lost her compass after retiring. I've been a stay at home mom for about 2 years now after working for almost 25 years. That's exactly how I feel... Like I've lost my way. My days used to be routine and structured, and now I struggle to find my purpose.

@@AnnieNugget Life doesn't work that way for everyone, just because you have a child and love the child doesn't mean that they're all there is to life. It's very hard to adjust to caring for children since they're such a giant commitment to make in life.

@@AnnieNugget it's not even the same. I love and take care of my kids, I keep my house clean, and do all the stay at home mom/wife responsibilities. But it's not the same as waking up, and going to a paying job every day. Not everyone functions the same, and I tend to be one of those structured schedule, list maker kind of people. So the transition from my working life to my stay at home life was a struggle for me. My children are also 9 and 11, so it's not like taking care of toddlers all day. They're pretty self sufficient at this point. Most of my day is spent making their meals, keeping them entertained, and breaking up fights over the remote. 🤷🏻♀️
It also takes a mental toll on someone who's been working for over 2 decades, to no longer be a financial contributor to the home. Even though it makes more sense financially for me to be home with them instead of paying all of my earned income to childcare, it doesn't change the fact that it makes ME feel like an unproductive member of society. Luckily school will be starting again soon and I'll be able to at least work part time, feel like I'm financially contributing in our home again, and some adult conversation will be an added bonus.

I feel that old lady's pain from the start, to some extent. Im making a wild guess that maybe she's going through some very intense existential contemplation. Since she was a workaholic she never had the chance to sit down and be alone with her own mind for long periods of time maybe. I also felt like if it were truly a form of torture.

When junkyard girl said she didnt go to University because she believes she is going to do something good and that we all can. YES! That is exactly what lifes about. Follow your path and it will be good!

7:40 I really related with this girl talking about being born into religion. I was raised as a struck Jehovah’s Witness, never knew what gay was until I was 15 and once I found out I was gay I wanted to literally off myself because I was so in fear of god and losing my family. It’s really hard to unlearn anything you’ve been molded to know since birth, it’s been trained into you. I still have faith but my mind is way more open now

Vengance girl I 100% understand how hurtful it is to be betrayed. But I swear you're not getting anything good out of it. The only way to truly heal from trauma is to forgive and let go, otherwise you'll never be satisfied and you'll be on a eternal search of vengance instead of just letting it go and move on with your life.

The oldest 1, 18, he always tried to keep me near him. Bc his younger bro was a weirdo... & the sister was always chasing guys w/ fast cars. he never knew what to do w/ me. He'd either just hand me a game console & just go to sleep. Or take me to garages where him & his buddies would work w/ cars. He eventually committed suicide tho. In his bedroom. In their house. Took them days b4 they even realized he did that. Rip billy

Wow that’s brave that even though she practically had a full ride to university she chose not to go. Especially in this day in age where the pressure to make a career for yourself is so high it’s truly a hard decision to make. I think she has really great potential to do something positive I could just feel it tbh. I hope she finds a way to get more involved within the art community because I feel she could become some sort of artist given that she likes to give things a new meaning and purpose
Hi that girl is me :) Yes it was very hard going back and forth. I knew I wouldn’t be happy but I know my parents wanted me to go. So ultimately I chose not to. I am still in college just a community college and it’s online so I have more time to do my art. I do all kinds of things my car is just in there also. I paint, I dry flowers and create cool things, I sew, and any project I see I want to do I will do it. Thank you :)
