i finally took a tour a year ago after living in the area for almost a decade. the detail in every nook and cranny is insane. definitely love this maximalist design more than modern minimalism
Great tour, Jordan. I think you should have mentioned the woman that made it all possible, Julia Morgan, Hearst's architect. She was one of the most accomplished architects of the era and designed several buildings for Hearst including the Casa Grande. She was somewhat of a mysterious figure who never drew attention to herself but mastered her craft like few had done before her.
I have a friend that lives in a Morgan designed home, she can be a bit snippy about it at times.
My sympathies to the cleaning staff. 😢😭😭
@@LoriKasprzak-kc7xchouses like this had dozens of staff so while the work was still long, it wasn’t as long as you would think. great source of employment
Loved this vlog. My husband took us there once before he died. It was a beautiful vacation. Hearst Castle was our first stop in California. Great vlog.
Now that is a scenic road trip! How beautiful the natural California landscape is! And whatta castle/house !!! A-mazing! Thank you so much for taking us on the tour with you. That was super nice to do that.
What a different world. Successful newspapers. And the history after with his granddaughter Patricia. Thumbs up!
What a place - I never get tired of looking at videos about it. Thanks for this upload.
I’ve been here before, this is one of the things that are cool on camera but you have to try it out for yourself. The detail in every nook and cranny is insane. The gold in the pools, the 9 million Jesus paintings.
Another known fact. Zebras roam the hills of San Simeon. Look up Hearst Zoo. And it is true. I have seen them.
You’re right, they happily roam with cows in the fields by highway one. 🦓 🐄
yup. and even other animals. i think camels and llamas too? there were lots of exotic creatures there
Jordan... thank you... that was incredible. I have always wanted to visit the Hearst Castle... in case I never make it... thank you. That was wonderful.
Been to Hearst Castle twice, in the 80's, and loved every minute! The blue swimming pool, under the tennis courts, with cobalt blue tiles and real gold were my favorite! Swimming in that pool would be on my bucket list if it were possible. 😄👏👌🏊♀️
Wow! Always wondered what it was like there .....thanks for bringing me! Amazing footage!
Thank you for sharing this..superb eye candy!
Love castles! Really enjoyed it!
I love you shows , very informative . History is great
Thank you so much !
When I saw the title of your Vlog today I flipped out! Like many in the comments, I have longed to go there. I have read about Hearst Castle for years and watched documentaries over and over again on the subject. Can you imagine hanging out with all the biggest stars and VIP's of the day and then be seated at that loooong table for the mandatory dinner? This makes me want to watch Citizen Kane again. Thank you Jordan for making it possible to have this perspective on a legendary space. Can't wait to see more in the future!
That was breathtaking. Thank you so much for sharing.
I was in high school when I learned about this place from our US History teacher, bought slides there and photos that they sold there. I fell in love! Haven’t been there yet but it’s on my bucket list. You know he had wild animals just roaming the estate? And a crew of people to care for them all, peacocks, zebras etc. How cool was that? 👍👍👍
The Hearst castle is so amazing!! Thank god it has been frozen in time for us!! So many famous people inside those walls!! Did they mention ghost inside the castle!! It's just breathtaking Lion!! Thank you and give Jah hugs n kisses!! "All my love to you"🍒
+Michelle C it's all funded by the visitors. He said California gives them very little, so the visitors admission of $25 per tour is what keeps it open and keeps it maintained.. one of my favorite places to visit. I definitely think everyone should see it
Thanks a million for filming this....i have wanted to see this place for the longest time. !! Your channel is awesome! You are awesome!!!!
Thanks Jordan and Beck! Amazing!
Thank you for the history lesson as well as tour awesome!!!!💞
Excellent vid! Thanks Jordan!
I was there back in 2014. It was an awesome experience. The indoor pool there is my favorite. I have a question, what is the song that you play in the intro and outro? Keep up the great work dude.
+DGDXanimation the song is called "sandful of hand" by 84 Nash
Nothing like flaunting money...thanks Jordan..great vlog ....its hard to wrap your head around so much wealth...it is beautiful...been by it many times just never had the time to go up there.
+Karla Jones I don't see it as flaunting money, as much as surrounding yourself with things you love in a setting you love
Went to Hearst Castle years ago and it was awesome
Been there when I was a kid love it still dream of it like the Winchester House
My parents took me here when I was just a teenager and had not one ounce of understanding behind the man, the culture, the art, the decoration, and everything. Even still, it blew my 13 year old mind when I saw this place in person. I was just awe inspired. It led me down a path of architecture and design and 22 years later, it is my career! Thank you Hearst Castle for being such a core memory of my childhood.
Awesome!
wonderful....obviously, inspirational!
Lived just down the road from there in Cambria it's a beautiful spot on California's central coast ....
I was there and had the same tour guide upstairs. I did both tours. I remember so much of it. Great tour.
they had to do major renovations to because in the mid to late 70s there was a story on 60 minutes about how the castle was crumbling and in major disrepair and they showed pictures of it and it looked like it was ready to fall down
I wouldn't normally say this but holy @#$% !! That was stunning! It would seem to be 100% impossible to be able to see everything that place has to offer, absolutely breathtaking and yes that view is just .. Wow!
+Lee Anne L I hope, at some point, to do all 4 tours. I've done 2 of the 4
Wonderful adventure...Many Thanks
+Jody Hollinger you are very welcome. Hope you are well
Citizen Kane's character is based on WRH.
I’m a huge Charlie Chaplin fan. So much of this castle was moving to me since I’ve seen so many pictures of Chaplin here. Even elements of it Charlie wrote about in his biography. This is one of my favorite places to visit in California, hands down
Wow! Amazing and beautiful. Now I can see what opulence looks like.
Try biitmore mansion -- I've been there once and was blown away!
Randolph was the Ludwig of Bavaria, castle maker. A fantasy place to call home and entertain. Then death came along and that was it. Both places are visited by millions today on both sides of the world. All their wealth and success, couldn't keep them alive for another day.
Well done. Really enjoyed this video tour.
The pools were awesome!
Love to start my day with Jordan!
+Joseph Lacey thanks. I appreciate it
yes lacy and myself as well! Big kiss for Jah
He. didn't start this dream home until he was 56 yrs old! It took 30 years to complete.
It's unfinished like the fictional Xanadu of Citizen Kane. One wing is boarded up.
Stunning property, thanks Jordan.
It’s ok, a little modest and understated for my taste.kidding... holy moly who needs a house like that, I wonder if he was overcompensating for something.
He WAS really, really, really, really, really, really rich after all. Could hardly expect him to live in an igloo. 🙄
Omg; imagine living in such a beautiful castle like this....
Jordan I am glad you took us on your day trip but I thought this castle was tacky. No continuity. I wonder what will happen to it when the money runs out? Hearst was a mean man who murdered the director Thomas Ince and got away with it because of his power!
There was a huge zoo full of exotic animals he had imported.
Wow i so wanna go here
+Ian John it's worth it. It stays open by visitors tour admission primarily, so they need visitors to come see it
Daze with Jordan the Lion . Thank you for message I'm in UK and planning on visiting 2019 . You have give me so much I want to see , I can't wait so keep up the great content
Hi Jordan... Heard a guide mention that Hearst Castle was built by a famous female architect, Julia Morgan Just imagine trying to contend with Hearst's temperament, changes of mind and his numerous "new acquisitions"! Julia Morgan is responsible for building over 700 structures in California, including the opulent Marion Davies home on the beach in Santa Monica (now gone) which probably utilized the over supply and cast-offs from up north. Before her beach house was demolished, the imported interior paneled ceilings, walls and furnishings, etc., were boxed up and, no doubt, grace the mansions of millionaires, local and distant. All that remains are the marble pool and a guest house that is often used as a filming venue. It now belongs to the City of Santa Monica, and is open to the public as the Annenberg Beach House. My SM junior high class celebrated graduating 8th grade with a pool party in that famous marble pool. Glad you got to see the indoor Roman pool at the Castle... (kinda spooky) and I hope that the Neptune pool has water in it by your next visit - it is beyond beautiful when full.
When I went on that tour they said that there was no varnish or finish on the dining room tables. The high gloss was built up from hundreds of years of daily waxing.
Fabulous...I love it up there..those views and cool ocean breezes. I took ground floor tour also.. but it included the gorgeous Roman outdoor pool..?? I did not realize those tapestries were that old...probably alot of security around there. Would Love nighttime experience! Did you see Zebras on the hillsides? I was wondering when he would mention Charlie Chaplin...he was with Mary or Marion I think...see newer movie with Kirsten Dunst and ? .. about Chaplin and one of these women mentioned here at Hearst's....
Hearst Castle & Solvang, CA. I highly recommend visiting these two areas.
My brother is an industrial archaeologist and he chose blue willow as his personal china pattern...I thought it was because he unearthed so much of the stuff at camp towns doing research, but the more I think of it, it's probably because of WRH and Hearst Castle. ;) I need to ask him.
We were there in March 2017. The guide told us they would camp there prior to Hearst building the castle. He never told us mom was in disagreement? 🤔
Breathtaking place! Always wanted to go there. Wonderful vlog! Thanks so much!!!
Hearst Castle is amazing..Great place, I always loved it..Thanks Jordon, I'm addicted to your you tube channel. keep up the great work..
+Jamie Martinez thank you
Wow! That was incredible. Those so-called plain sides of the castle sure looked ornate for being unfinished. The guy paid attention to every minute detail. The foliage alone around the walk-ways-- crazy! It is hard to even get the idea of just how huge the place is. This was quite the treat. Thanks so much. Trips back will certainly be just as enjoyable. The great thing is that it is now open for the public to enjoy. Everywhere you looked-- there was an antiquity of some sort
This would take many return visits to take everything in, incredibly gorgeous
What an amazing looking place . With so much interesting history .🙂
Watching it again. Such a fabulous place. Think I would like to take the night time tour and pretend to be a guest.
Thanks for sharing...
Just Wow! Cheers Jordan ! This place was just as I imagined it to be William Randolph Hearst was quite the person back in the day what a majestic ; glorious place thanks for taking us there and fulfilling my request ! Look forward to future vlogs here and of course your future daily vlogs . 👍🏻🎥💙🦁😎🌺🕍👍🏻
+MidlifeQuest Vlogs and Life thanks Sally. Glad you enjoyed it
Jim Morrison and a drinking friend visited the Hearst Castle in the winter or 70 /71, is probably the last film footage of him alive in the United States before leaving for Paris.
Absolutely awesome!! I always enjoy you tremendously!! I truly appreciate all you do!! I totally look forward to more of you and precious Jah!!
They let us jump in the pool. It was really cool.
Fun fact. Under the tennis courts is an indoor pool lined with real gold floors. You get to walk of floors made of actual gold & the pool looks amazing!
I’ve always felt called to this property since I was a little girl. It’s my favorite place.
Thank you for this vlog Jordan, golly people with money go over the top at times trying to impress
I'm so glad you did Hearst Castle. This place is one of California's hidden gems. If you're not from here you would never know it exists and if you are from here you still might not know it exists. I have been on all the tours and rumors have it that during Halloween there are other tours of rooms that aren't opened up the rest of the year. I just love this place.
Oh, you also have to have a proper Hearst Burger while you're up there if you don't you're just missing out on a part of the whole experience.
P.S. One never turns down an invitation from a Hearst even to this day.
It,looks like,,a big,church
Thank you Jordan for not editing the video to the point it's unwatchable...a lot of RUclipsrs do that and I just don't watch their content.
With videos like this you seem to read my mind. I want to hear what the guide is saying...I want to see everything I can and you are good at using your camera to pan left and right and show us everything.
I live in oklahoma and there is so much I want to see but cannot travel as I work and have small kids so I really appreciate your time.
We love your vlogs,my undivorced ex Skid Row @1986 Sebastian talked to me about doing a vlog w you in which we will discuss very dark crime like things that happened to us both. Lavina+Sebastian.x
Looks more like a church than a castle.
My mother (old school European) was horrified to see the ketchup and mustard bottles on the dining table there and if I ever started to bring a bottle to the table would remind me that we did not live in Hearst Castle. Which of course was true...
AMAZING!!!!!
+Rachel Delgado very!
Citizen Kane was about Hearst.
'Rosebud' was his pet name for a certain part of Marion's wedding tackle.
WRH was not amused by that.
I notice the list of Hearst's accomplishments didn't include the fact that he invented yellow journalism.
I visited with a friend back in the early 2000s, we were both so amazed that we took every tour they offered. The place is amazing, and its setting up in the hills is spectacular.
Can you imagine San Simeon being just one of your homes!!!! Crazy!!!!!
Went there when I was in school on a field trip.
So did my mom back in the seventies on a school vacation in the sixth grade I think she said
I've chosen to watch one of your older videos by traveling back in time. I've never seen this castle, and I'll see it through your eyes.
I think the tour guide like rings
+mslaerik66 no kidding!
just like Chuck Haight, Chuck the fish loved an excess of tourmaline and silver jewelry, like I was saying earlier a runner for Micky Cohen, oh, well
Tour guide was very knowledgeable, thanks!
You drained the pool? Too bad they didn’t get to see the beautiful sparkling water reflecting the surrounding facade.
Certainly a man on a misson. The tour felt like i was in another country. Waste full willy.!!! Ummm...
Wow, thank you so much for the upload its a wonderful estate and area up the coast. He has such a interesting history, such stunning architecture, art, antiques. You have captured a great amount of content and eye to detail, I'm so happy you got to visit there. Your Vlog allowed me to see it in more detail when I was there with my son I had a broken back so i missed half of it... Near there afew miles from the castle is where they have the elephant seals which would be good and that amazing jetty William Hearst built and had to use while building and that town with that large rock is a interesting area aswell.... Thanks Jordan for all the great work you do. Your going to go a long way in life.. I wish you the very best luck in the contract your about to sign, I can see good things for your future. -
+MICHELLE DALTON thank you for appreciating it.
I`ve been there back in 2004......how rich can a man be??.....Thank you very much for another great vlog Jordan
+Ad Schijven he also lost everything, and then earned it all back
Hurst thought old was better. His parents knew his flair for overdoing things very well. The gap between the haves and the have nots is so obvious in this opulent designs. I don't admire it.
+sheila sheehan he lived there. His opinion was really all that mattered
Was Citizen Kane movie based of William Randolph Hearst's life?
For about a month after you visit the Hearst castle, you have dreams where you are meeting old friends there, and they are very nice dreams.
Thanks for posting. I went to see the castle 2 years ago and God all the tourist was beautiful and overwhelming. Very impressive man. Everyone should visit it at least once # Toronto, canadian fan!!!!
You didnt go to the pools? That's the best part.
An interesting home alone with an interesting man included I love it
There was an awful smell all over the inside of the main house, when I visited.
Bad smell? Did you ask about it?
😇💙 Hi Jordan, Thank YOU for the tour of Hurst Castle.🤗
I was either 17 or 18 years old, and my Mom and my two siblings, went to Hurst Castle, in the late seventies, but I didn't go, because I was a little mad at my Mom, so I turned down the visit, to Hurst Castle { if I'm being honest, I was a little bratty about it 🤭 } but years later, after I had my two children, my Hubby 😎 and I took a few trips, up to northern CA, and each time we drove the Pacific Coast, driving right by the castle.
Years later, my Hubby 😎 and I, stopped by the castle { at the very bottom } and admired the castle, from afar. 🤗 You didn't mention Patty Hurst ??? But you did mention, five children { all boys }
Thank YOU again.🤗
LUV Joy.🤗
I remember seeing actors like Norma Shearer and her husband Irving Thalberg up there partying with Randolph ad Marion Davies. Davies became Hearts mistress. His wife knew about it but she never granted him a divorce. Hearts castle was the heyday of the 30's Golden Hollywood Jet Set. He went bankrupt and Marion bailed him out. I see the pool is empty, was it used for water for the fires near there? Or being renovated?
There was a crack in the Neptune pool and the San Simeon sun was evaporating the water at such a rate that it wasn’t worthwhile to fill the pool. But I think now it’s been fixed and filled.
Just two things I have to say..just AMAZING..and missed my little buddy Jaw...have a great day Jordan and Jaw...
+Denise Beaudry you mean jah?
Wow just Wow! You have done the best video tour of the Hearst Castle I have ever seen. Thank you for taking us on this field trip!
Some people are just too rich ,,,Inspired the Great film Citizen Kane
He did inspire that film (he wasn't too pleased with Orson Welles), bit I was thinking of Xanadu while he was showing the castle!!!!
And then Hearst tried to ruin Orsen Welles's career.
The tour guide was amazing, and bedazzled. :) I've been here many times and I always love it just the same. So much history. So much beauty. My favorite parts are the indoor pool, his office, the gold chicken faucets in the kitchen, and the gorgeous roses and hydrangeas. The steps, not so much.
Yes, the paved areas and steps seem to overwhelm the landscape. The paths with trees and shrubs bordering them look much more inviting. The statuary is diverse, its fine as long as there is enough planting to soften it all and provide background.
thank you a million times! i love this place ...i visit southern california as a teen a few times and this place was on one of our trips there....absolutely the best day of the whole vacation for me. this place fueled many dilusions of grandeur for me...hehe
+pinkies vlogs glad you enjoyed it Pinkie
Wonder what happened if you never went to 7.00pm dinner?
+grantgmc1313 they said there were 50 maids and valets on property at the time, so someone probably came and summoned you for drinks much earlier
Lol, I thought about that too!!
I went on a tour of the castle in 1992 while visiting my sister in Cali, we had just experienced a 7.4 quake two days before in Southern CA, I had never been so quite in all my life as we walked , I was just trying to take in all of the beauty and art around me, Hurst Castle is the real Disneyland.
