i wouldn't be surprised if they released 4x5 at some point. it genuinely does look really good in those camera scanned self portraits and the photoshoot.
I honestly hope Harman keeps the crazy Phoenix around after they get their color formulation right. For some applications, those crazy highlight blooms look right.
I’ve been building this studio for 4 years. I learned a lot from your videos. Thank you so much. I’m working on some very cool concepts I’d like to talk to you about
I purchased three rolls on the first day of release. I shot a roll through my Rolleiflex f3.5 at box speed. I developed the film myself in FPP color dev. and scanned on my Epson V550 with the Epson software. I thought the results were very good. I did notice some blocking in the shadows, but colors were very vibrant. My shots were mostly fairly evenly lit landscapes. I definitely agree that home scanning at this point is the best result.
I love that the first two videos I saw released on my feed about this were from you and Attic Darkroom. Both videos were full of 'chaotic good' energy :D p.s. I think your self scanned 200 looked very good, I was blown away like the highlights on that lab scan. Especially the shadows got like two stops of improvement from your scan, from muddy and messy to perfectly usable.
I had my best results with Phoenix 35mm not just exposing at 100, but pulling it to 100. I've got some rolls on the way, might try going all the way to 50 after this video. Looks like a significantly better film in 120.
I think the camera scans shows the true potential of this film. That makes me wonder why lab techs aren't using the scanners to their full potential. Hopefully they'll also improve their methods so the general public can enjoy the stock as well
Thanks for the great video, Noah. I shot my first roll of Phoenix at 100 on your recommendation. Gonna go 64 this time as 50 scares me. You got some great results. Hope the hornets weren’t too stingy.
it's wild cause Shaka1277 seemed to be the only person who's figured out how to shoot this film and make it look really good. he's review he goes over a lot of the technical aspects that i think will be useful for a lot of folks who want to try this. which, he mentions pulling a stop... also, self scanning with this film is A MUST....
Seeing all the “just released” review videos come out today is weird, my local shop had it on shelves like three weeks ago already lol. Maybe they weren’t supposed to? 😮
Omg…it’s amusing that analog resurgence people haven’t figured out you need to filter the light coming into your lens to correct white balance. If you want your film to look good get a color meter and some wratten filters. Most Kodak films produce great color rendition between 4800 - 5200 k. Other brand film stock you need to test a roll and find the color temperature where they are optimal.
You should do double episodes from now on. DO a sober version, then get smashed and do another. Double video where the only differences if you on camera. It would be awesome,... choose your own adventure. Also double views.
When they get everything sorted out, it needs to be renamed 100 instead of 200. …… labeling this 200 is a disservice to their customers and we need a way to differentiate the old stock from new stock
I understand the intention of trying new ways of presentation, but "drinking" scenes made me stop watching, despite great interest in the subject. However, there is no trying out new things without risk! So despite this style is not for me, I appreciate the dedication! Keep up the good work!
Many of us get a comedy bit when we see one. I've been informed that if was going to hell for one sip of a beer/wine, etc. All because if it took me 800 sips to get drunk, then one sip made me1/800th drunk and I would go to hell when I die. I asked about his mon and dad and the rest of the extended family, on valium, vicadan, etc. But of course, that's different.
This is the peak of Noah’s performance
With the right exposure it can genuinely look good. Definitely shows potential for their future colour film.

Those 50 and 100 iso headshots probably sold a few rolls, those are definitely the best of the bunch. Might have to get some myself.
buzzed Noah is my favourite Noah
Pun intended?
You are absolutely nuts for hanging out with those hornets that long. Respect.
Man that beer opening is quality takes me back to the Mumbo #5 days

wow, so happy it is in 120 now!
Beautifully unhinged and informative, great stuff!
Good work! Getting Jim Lahey vibes from this one 😁

Dude those portraits are tight
Wonderous episode! I love the chill setting and still very informative and interesting video. Fantastic!
First video I've watched of yours. I'll definitely be subscribing. You were hilarious 🤣
Def my favorite review of the film
It's tough to re-invent the wheel, I guess. But it's a bad idea to market a 100 ISO film as 200 - frustration and bad results are unavoidable …
I am so looking forward to having it in 120!

The shots at 50 ISO actually look the best imo, I like the punchy colors 😁
well, i see your kodak gold beer cooler so i'll stick with Kodak Gold - thanks for the review!

Your best video yet
I want the 3 speed lager tall boy! your review made me so thirsty. See if they'll export to SoCal! Kudos to Harman too
Thanks for the great video, Noah. I shot my first roll of Phoenix at 100 on your recommendation. Gonna go 64 this time as 50 scares me. You got some great results. Hope the hornets weren’t too stingy.
I really hope Noah made it off that roof ok!… I mean he’s gonna run out of beer!
I kinda liked the lab scans of 200iso shots. Maybe that's just how I used to see film photos
Damn you got to that quick, I’ve got 5 rolls on the way cos I really do enjoy the look of phoenix
I'd love a video on cyanotype stuff just to guilt me into getting around to trying it myself
I like the low key Kodak bag in the video 😅😆
The camera scans were so much better.
❤ all of this

also, self scanning with this film is A MUST....
Did you also get these developed at 100 and 50, or did you still develop at box speed?
Developed as normal!
What's with the HTV West channel indent music as your intro?
I guess we just go weird and equally good at ISO 80.
I think you buried the lede there with the lab vs camera scans. It looks like an utterly different film. Way better!
200 home scanned look best to me
Did you scan yourself or lab scanned? Phoenix is very challenging to scan and most labs just cannot handle it properly as it is too time consuming.
The lab scans kind of look like expired Kodacolor II!
For me, it was the summer of expired Fuji C200
I mean, camera scan are totally fine, it seems even at 200?
I understand marketing a 200 ISO film at 100 makes it an easier sell, but is that not just lying? Or is that much wiggle room considered acceptable?
Seeing all the “just released” review videos come out today is weird, my local shop had it on shelves like three weeks ago already lol. Maybe they weren’t supposed to? 😮
Hahaha ya they likely weren’t supposed to. Was told it was confidential until the 5th, but a place in Toronto also briefly sold it early as well
Seems a bit mad to market it as a 200 ISO when its closer to 100 ISO, and that 1 stop difference can make or break the photos.
Were all the roles developed normally without any pushing or pulling
Developed as normal!
So..... Phoenix IS a 50 and not a 200iso film!!?

I couldn't get past 23 seconds. I resent being addressed as though I'm an idiot.
Because its too much truth?

It’s kinda like slide film but not
Don't drink and shoot.
yeah, those lab scans are shit. this does much better depending on the scan ,I wonder how it would print in RA4?
Honestly, I prefer Kodak Gold 200.

I genuinely really appreciate how you've worded this!
