    I live an hour and a half away from my Triumph dealer and I hate the idea that these motorcycle dealers are forcing consumers to have routine oil changes done at a dealer, my dealer wants $297.05 for the first 500 mile service, so there going to change the oil and reset the oil light and maybe do a scan, for almost $300 bucks. I like to work on my own equipment because I never know if the knucklehead that they hired is going to do something wrong to my bike if he's having a bad day, or to increase profits for his motorcycle business. Oh yea, the 10,000 mile service is $426.05. I should leave my 360 go pro camera running to see what's actually being done for that kind of money.

  • @vicwiseman6038

    I walked into a Triumph dealer last week to have them scan my check engine light. I lost my OBD2 action device while I was moving so I decided to ask the dealer what code was coming up. $65 to tell me the code and like $300 to diagnose the issue. I said, what?! And I had to schedule an appointment? Absolutely insane! I take my car to Toyota, they will gladly check my car out and tell me what’s wrong with it just so that they can earn my business of actually repairing the car. Yeah, motorcycle dealers are crazy. I dug everything up and found 2 scanners. One Bluetooth just like the one in this video, and a cable one with a display and read + Erase buttons. So much easier. All those checklist items they list that they check is bullshit! They don’t check everything. They only check basics and the problem area. That’s what they did when I forked out $1200 for a valve check 4K miles ago. Came back home and the coolant was low. I told them to check the coolant because it looked low. And they actually reinstalled incorrect body panel bolts. Chain wasn’t cleaned or lined. You know that phrase, “ If you want it done right, do it yourself?” So true!

    • @AUTOT3KHCL
      @AUTOT3KHCL  6 лет назад

      I know exactly what you're saying. The bike service industry seems to have lower standards and they think its ok... its not!
      Im on the fence with that valve adjustment service because I know they wont do it properly but they're also claiming my warranty wont let me do it... maybe an email to triumph to ask is in order!

    • @vicwiseman6038
      @vicwiseman6038 6 лет назад

      AUTOT3K HCL If you have less than 20k miles I wouldn’t worry about the valve clearance check. 99% sure it’s fine. Mine was checked twice during the first 20k. In spec both times. If you don’t constantly redline the bike, you really shouldn’t worry about it. A far as my check engine light is concerned. Turned out to be the fall sensor under the rear pillion seat. Probably a little bit of water for in it when I washed my bike or my tool kit bumped it under the pillion seat and set it off. I cleared the code with my scanner tool, light didn’t come back. I probably would have forked out $400 at the dealer for this ($200 to diagnose and $200 to replace a perfectly good sensor): Pretty crazy if you ask me.

      Vic Wiseman so true buddy. I went over my immaculate 2 year old Speedy with a video camera the day before i sent it into Triumph dealer such is my lack of confidence in them. I do my own maintenance but I didn’t have the software to modulate the ABS for a fluid change so I put it into the dealer to do for £45 which i thought wasn’t too bad considering. When i got it home the rear hugger was splattered with white marks that had bleached the black textured surface. This was due to the brake fluid not being cleaned up around the rear fluid reservoir - typical. Obviously i complained and they replaced it without question but this really should be basic workshop practice.

    TuneECU now works with 2024 Street Triple 765 to reset SEL. You need an Android device, an OBD to 6 pin connector on the bike (Amazon about $10), OBD BT module like OBDLink MX+ and follow instructions in this video and in the app. May cost about $200 if you buy all these items but quickly pays for itself compared to dealer visit and now you have a powerful servicing tool for your bike.

So here I sit with a 2021 Rocket 3GT which I bought using a flashing service warning light with no ability to reset it. Thankfully I'm already familiar with TuneECU. However please be aware that different bikes will require different OBD programmers. In my case, I have an OBDLinkMX+ which I'm using with a Samsung S8 (spare phone). Anyhow thanks for the info. The long and short of this is you need to do your research and make sure you get the right adapter for your bike and understand how to use TuneECU.

    $60 tire change (per tire)
    $240 fork seal change
    My favorite.

    Just a note here: It is very important that the date and time is set correctly on the bike before trying to use TuneECU. (Don't ask me how I know!) Also, TuneECU can do a lot more than reset the service intervals; it can read and delete fault codes and can be used to tune the ECU (be careful and know what you are doing or just don't do it). Also, not sure if this has changed since I bought it but I got a license for using this on up to three motorcycles. I think there is also an unlimited license. There's also a long list of MCs that TuneECU can be used with.

    Number one: My service light has NEVER come on, which I guess I'm okay with, but I'm looking to use TuneECU to cycle the ABS when I bleed the brakes or flush the brake fluid. It'll be nice to have if the dreaded wrench icon does ever decide to appear!
    Number two: If Triumph put as much effort into quality control as they do trying to price gouge a customer before and after the sale of a new unit, I'd be ecstatic. My 2019 Speed Twin leaked oil like a sieve almost since day one. Needed a new stator gasket, and a new countershaft oil seal. Then the clutch started slipping. Needed stiffer clutch springs, and a new clutch cover gasket. Now at 6,500 miles, I likely have to rebuild the rear caliper, because the pistons don't stay retracted when the brakes are off. What a straight up British pile of shee-it! 😠
    Thanks for your video though! LOL

  • @JasonSobell

    The reason you got an error is because you probably haven't set the date on the bike dash. Use the Display Settings/Date, then the service date reset will apply.
    This is because the date defaults back to 1-1-2000 when the battery is disconnected, and the dash rejects the requested new service date because it's about 23 years in the future!
    Without doing this you will usually find the wrench icon remains lit, even though the distance service limit has been set.

    I don’t mind having a check engine light because there is a problem that needs to be diagnosed and repaired. However, I don’t like being forced to play their game when it comes to resetting lights or indicators. You should be able to do it without having this expensive runaround to deal with.
