  • This is the most expensive rod and reel combo carp fishing world has ever seen. Is it worth the price though? Watch the video and let us know your thoughts.
The reel is a Basiair Z45 QD by Daiwa which we reviewed recently here: • Daiwa Basiair Z45 QD -...
The rod is the latest of Daiwa Carp in Scotland - Basiair X45X 12' 3.25 - available at www.carpangler.com/daiwa-basi...
So, is it worth the money? Does the technology behind the rod and reel justify the $2200 combined price tag? Let us know!

I love fishing. Been fishing all my life in some form or another, on some continent or another, fresh water, salt water, brackish water, etc. Never owned a rod n reel combo that cost more than $200.00 tops; until I started Carp fishing in wild water. Had been catching carp back East growing, we did not have access to all this type gear “Euro style gear” for carp fishing. In fact, my first Trout, Carp, and Whiting, were all caught on the same Zebco 33 spin cast reel with a 5’ 6” Zebco rod - it was a combo deal that cost me $30 at the time. Never used spinning gear, etc. Nowadays, when I Carp fish, I fish second hand gear I’ve purchased from other Anglers, or they gave it to me. That said, with over 50 years of using different gear, understanding more about the gear, etc., I can unequivocally state that the rod n reel combo you have is not worth it. The rod n reel are tools to land fish. As once said to me by a couple of different Carp Enthusiast and devoted Carp Anglers, who know far more than I do or ever will, stated “The “reel” just holds line, the “rod” does the work, and the anglers knowledge aka water craft, got them to where the fish are, otherwise, even the best bait in the world will not work if there are no fish in the area to eat it!”.
I like others have spent hard earned $$ on quality gear. The gear I have will last me to the time I catch my last fish.
Beautiful, best of the best, to me, don’t need it, so not worth it. $1,200 for a reel!!!! Damn thing at that price best bait itself, cast itself, hook, fight, and land the fish itself, rebate the swim, all while I sleep😂😂😂😂😂😂

I live in the Uk and am a Match fisherman ... I can assure you that a £75 rod and £70 reel 8 lb to 12 lb line (total cost say 175 to 225 us dollars) will land you pretty much any carp in freshwater. I would only go 15lb to 20 lb main line if I was trying to catch over 40lb carp. We catch carp over 15lb regularly on match gear (poles +rods) using 3lb to 8lb breaking strain line even lighter in some cases. I have landed +12 lb carp using a 3lb hook length and 8 to 10 elastic in a whip, but yeh it may take over 25 mins to land lol. Expensive match gear (Diawa makes some of the most expensive - with a Diawa Air Pro POLE costing around 5k uk £'s - does indeed make a massive difference and certainly at full 16 metre lengths - so longer casting lengths and the huger waters in the USA, probably is where you would truly feel the difference in these products over average ones - and that difference will be very noticeable.). An AVERAGE to GOOD Match set up here in the Uk if you are including 2 rods can cost anywhere between £2500 and £4000 -- A Top of the range set up probably £4000 to £7000 of course this is if you are going to buy new, it could be much much cheaper if you bought second hand. Carp and Silvers Match fishing in the USA is like Football/Soccer was 40 years ago, however whilst soocer still remains relatively unplayed in the USA, UK and EU style Match fishing will EXPLODE one day and EU anglers will be on the first planes out there if they feature larger tournaments. USA is an untapped course match fishing HEAVEN potentially.

Thanks for the comment. You made us look up the Daiwa pole and Lord, you were not joking! We no longer feel our presented gear is expensive at all 😂. That being said sport is growing in USA steadily and so is “soccer”.
We hope to see you in our comments section soon. Oh..YNWA 💪

carp fishermen in Europe , and especially the UK have always been tackle tarts . have to get the best and most expensive tackle . water craft is the most important thing you need . you can spend £100,000 on the top setup . and catch sod all . my favourite rods are the Sonik blacks 2.75lb . £50 each . carp up to 31lb on them , no problem .

Its a carbon stick at the end of the day, i have caught more fish of a better stamp close in than trying to cast to horizon, there is more food in the margins plus fish are cold blooded and use the sun to warm up hence the shallower water which warms up first is close in so are you going to pay that amount of money for a set up that is going to cast over the fish or pay for something that is still lightweight but comfortable to use at a quarter of the distance and is comfortable on the pocket?

i like how everyone in the comments are trying to say "you can catch with a $50 rod blah blah blah". No shit, but its the same with literally anything. Just because you can buy absolute garbage and get the job done, doesnt mean some folks want the bare basic crap to do their hobby. Same reason people have options of cars to buy and most people, with any amount of money, splash out for nicer cars that they want. This is just down to folks wanting nice things to do their hobby with. Same in bowling, shooting, racing, photography, anything....

Buying such an expensive set up. You’re suddenly in that world of trying not to scratch it or damage it and being super careful. It’s like owning a new car you suddenly realise you’re parking your car on the top floor of a multi story car park so no one else parks close to it and scratches your doors etc.

Three first gen Shimano Big Baitrunners and a 12ft Daiwa longbows are serving me perfectly for over > 15yrs now. And they come in at less than one third of this single combo. So yeah...FOR ME, it's not worth it.

  • @ThePerch0
    @ThePerch0 5 месяцев назад +1

Let’s be honest, no piece of carp gear is worth that kind of money. You can get absolutely banger rod&reel combo for well under half it’s price or even quarter of it and you’ll not feel any meaningful, functional difference in any real life scenario, even more extreme ones. At this point, it’s only a thing for tackle freaks, pretentious snobs and for the company to show off „we have the most expensive tackle” and, to some extent, their technology. While coming up with new technology and perfecting previous ones surely plays it’s role for us, the customers, in getting some of that tech in future, more affordable tackle, it’s still behind huge wall of extremely disproportionate markup.

    • @carpangler-TV

Thanks for the reply. We think that, as with any technology really, it starts with a high price tag for the selected few who can and are willing to splurge on it, be it a tackle tart or a gear fanatic. In years to come we are quite certain (at some point) some of these technologies will be more common and with that somewhat cheaper. That is usually the way things go. Remember, some of the "mid range" or even "low range" gear at some point to most what this gear here is to you - a novelty that "made no difference" in opinions of many, most without ability to really form informed opinion as they never really tried it. That being said - we need these new technologies, we need people to try and test them and even improve on them, so one day most of us can enjoy them as what can be considered a "normal price".

@@carpangler-TVI have a set of 3, 13 ft Harrison rods with Daiwa 5000 series reels, bought used from a fellow angler for $1,200 with rod holdall. I may have even overpaid a little, but they perform flawlessly, I am happy with them. Another angler gave me a set of 3 13 ft rods, which I have paired with reels at $100 each. So, I basically have two full set of 3, 13ft rods n reels for roughly the price of one of those reels. $1,200 for one reel is absurd. Besides the fact, you can catch big carp on cheap rods n reels. I’ve done it. At age 12, I won $117.00 wager by catching a 17 lbs Common Carp, my biggest ever at that point. Caught it on a 6’6” fiberglass cheap rod I got from a local Sears store, paired it with a brand new all metal Zebco 33 Spincast reel with 10 lbs test line. My PB common now is 34. I took and 30 years off of carp fishing due to military service. Still have the reel, the rod finally broke during transport one day. Total cost at the time was maybe $40.00.
