  • How to replace a tap washer and use a reseating tool on a dripping tap, tap is the older traditional victorian style, useful tips on how to do this simple job, after replacing the rubber tap washer the tap still dripped, the metal surface that the rubber washer met was pitted and rough so I smoothed this with the reseating tool, success the dripping stopped

You are the first person who recomends to use a towel to prevent an accidental breaking of the basin, good advice.

Thank you so much. I was looking for a video with exactly that tap.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It's really helpful and empowering to know I can attempt fixing my dripping taps. I like the use of a tea towel to help the spanner grip well. As a former chef I own lots of tea towels :)

Thanks, I had never heard of a reseating tool but now I have I will try it out on my dads leaky garden taps. He is using a hammer to close them off at the momment which I strongly disaprove of :-)

Good video, but if you find the headnut is stuck fast, look out for the easy tapslitter, makes it so much easier.

not very good tap was still dripping and that's with no mains pressure

Surely that's because, after he'd reassembled, he didn't turn the top handle to close the tap off, so it was still fully open.
I suspect that closing the tap before turning the mains back on is a bad idea, because it may push bits of swarf (from the reseating operation) into the new rubber washer. I'd certainly want to flush it through before closing.
