I really enjoy playing Nioh, but you have a point about the level design. Unlike Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Nioh doesn't have a open world for you to explore. It's all just selective levels that have a one way path to your destination. It sorta lacks the whole exploration that Bloodborne and Dark Souls gives. Other than that, I say it's a damn good game. plus, for me, it's a less stressful game compares to the other two.
Vince Gamboa The only thing I really hate about Nioh is the the endgame and DLCs they have such insane level requirements to even be possible that I usually don’t even play them
@@angeloabbatiello4755 those are requirements for gear level not character. In fact you could do the whole game without leveling if you you level up gear. Pay attention to the those 5 symbols on each levels start screen the lesser they are the easier the level is. I finished like halfway through with no armor and no levels just by leveling the the sword. You're so insanely fast and most enemies are so slow that as long as you have damage out put its still easy.
Probably why I enjoyed nioh as much as I did. I live the hell outta bloodborne, but I hate those damn soulsborne levels. I get lost, miss shortcuts....it's just annoying as shit. Don't wanna take an hour and a half just to find my way to the next area. Certain don't have time to waste like that anymore.
I honestly think it's one of the biggest "weaknesses" of the whole marketing that happened around the game. Having so many people expecting Dark Souls when Nioh is actually more akin to japanese Diablo 2 with a modern combat system. You need combat skills, shure, but Loot and Levels and item affixes and stats matter WAY more then people might expect. I've gotten back into it because of our current situation (it's great to burn through weeks) and in the hyper endgame gear becomes king and without a proper though through build you can't even kill a lowly pirate.

That Humble instrumental caught me by surprise, great video dude
Level design too boring? Well I can't argue with that, because I agree. The bosses and the combat are the best part about Nioh. And if you're into those two things I'd say the game is very worth finishing because some of the later bosses are really fun to fight.
I'd have to say that the level design is 'boring' purely because it wants to maintain a sense of realism of the world it is in. And before I get slammed with "this game isn't realistic because of the demons!", the only thing I can say in response is this: Japanese folklore is the driving point behind this game's enemy/boss design and the techniques real samurai used in fighting is what makes the combat of the game good. It's all historical, I guess, so people can't go and say the level design could be better when there was no way the could folklore or combat techniques could have been changed.
Actually, to correct myself a bit, I do like the level design. The way how levels are connected, the shortcuts and some secret areas are great. But they're boring in the sense that there's not much going on. You walk through so many samey looking places and plain roads. There's really nothing going on, and that's probably where the sense of realism comes from. Like when you walk outside you probably don't see a lot of interesting things.
Ah, that's understandable. Because the levels take place in mostly ordinary places that are seemingly boring, wouldn't it make sense for them to be as equally boring as they seem?

You quit at the same place I did. Playing Bloodborne before this game was a really bad decision. The bosses are fun and I like the art style, but man is the level and enemy design lazy. The combat is interesting, but half the skills are useless on the majority of enemies. The randomized armor is annoying. The interface and mechanics are convoluted for no fucking reason. I really wanted to enjoy this game, but I just couldn't.

funny enough I played bloodborne after beating nioh and absolutely hated it. The combat is just paper thin in comparison
It may not have as much variety in attacks, although it varies with all the weapons, transformations, and guns you get to use, but still overall the combat is more complex. Each enemy is unique and each enemy can kill you if you're not careful. Plus the atmosphere is so much more engrossing, IMO.
